Nice super smooth surface, did u add any material to the aluminum or it's just the fine sand result?

The smooth surface comes from the fine sand and the type of aluminum. When I first started casting this year I tried 6061 aluminum which is a good aluminum alloy for machining and not casting because there is no silicon in it. The casting was incomplete and did not fill properly. This quote is taken from the Belmont Metals website explaining the aluminum alloy with silicon in it. “When it is added to aluminum, the silicon makes the metal alloy more fluid without breaking the metal down at high temperatures. The silicon actually lowers the aluminum’s melting point. The aluminum will not experience hot tearing as there is no brittleness.” So I would say start with a fine casting sand and find a source of aluminum that is used or was used for casting such as car parts and car rims. I am also lucky to have a friend at work that gave me a bunch of aluminum in the form of old computer hard drive chassis. In my town I found a scrapper that sells me scrap aluminum parts that were once cast. My smoothest casting is in my superman video. If you get casting aluminum from different sources you might want to keep it segregated so you can find out what gives the best results for your application. Good Luck

Would you be willing to share the 3d printed sprue setup?

Yes I can do that. I will create a Facebook page for downloads. I will also post the items that are not copyrighted.

I tried looking at creating a facebook page yesterday and I can't figure out exactly what type of page would be appropriate. I also can't figure out how to post stl files on it. So I made the stl public on TINKERCAD. Just search ----> sprue and spin trap
