Marvelously performed! When I 1st heard this piece of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 - 3rd Movement, I thought it sounded jazzy, but I enjoyed listening to it & I think it was a great harmonic piece. Michael Tilson Thomas conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra performed it splendidly, I'm very impressed!
It is awesome to be able to watch one of the great symphonies of our time with being conducted by one of the great conductors of our time. Michael Thomas is such a joy to watch.
@ShelbyJr i didn't upload it originally as someone already had. unfortunately it's on a laptop i currently don't have access to. i'll upload it when i can.
That’s right he is. Robin Mckee, her husband Tim day, and Linda Lukas will rotate on different parts. Tim will sometimes play 2nd, Linda Lukas will sometimes play 3rd flute/2nd piccolo and 1st principal flute.
This piccolo player makes one of the most difficult 8 seconds of the orchestral piccolo repertoire sound like no big deal
3:02
Outside feelings : ☺️
Inside feelings : Nailed it, boom 💥
Year of study for 8 seconds of terror.
Spotless, vivid, zingy, and delightful. What's not to like?
And yeah, Cathy Payne is one killer piccolo player. :-)
I love Catherine Payne's smile at 3'06, it's like she's thinking, "YES!! I DID IT!!"

that conductor's just having such a lovely time! watching him dance and smile gives me the warm fuzzies haha
This is why Tchaikosky is my favorite composer :)
best Piccolo version ever of this solo!!!
I love her proud facial expression afterwards. Good for her.
Cathy Payne ROCKS on the piccolo solo!
There are definitely no words to describe the perfection in Catherine Payne's piccolo solo. Other than perfect, of course...
One of my favorite syphonic moments. Nothing quite like it.
Beautiful clarinet solo
That beginning is such an amazing sound! Love it!
Marvelous!!!
This performance with MTT beats the pants off of the Chicago Symphony's performance under Barenboim... Get it, San Francisco!!
But you have to admit that the Chicago Symphony is great.
Fabulous. Just fabulous.
Goodness! That Bass! :')
:) @ the picc player at 3:04

Tchaikovsky, the master of pizzicato.

Catherine Payne is amazing!
wow this vid was posted ten years ago
I think I've heard this movement a tiny bit faster in other performances.
Do you have the 4th movement from this performance? If so I'd love to hear it, please post =)
wow picc!!!!
I bet more strings have been broken playing this piece than almost anything else.
Where the finale?
LOL 21 notes in 3 seconds
4:21 - The violinist has got injured finger, and he have to play this awkward pizzicato .. ;c
Is that Tim Day playing 2nd flute?
