  • John Lennon interviewed 29th October 1966, Carboneras Spain, On The Set Of How I Won The War, Fred Robbins. Johns had his hair cut. John on acting and being in Spain. Dick Lester, what the other Beatles are up to. Bit embarrassing as Fred does not understand who writes what, "Great songs you've written Yesterday, Michelle".... Inspiration where the songs come from, back to Michelle, The 1966 US Tour, another tour and Paul has signed us up the write the music for a film. Escaping fame with a hair cut.

Had never heard this interview before. It's been said that John was a tortured soul. He seemed more comfortable in his own skin, in stark contrast to his more serious personality in the first half of 1966. Lost some weight. Hair cropped. No mania. There was no pressure to write songs. No real distractions. Setting the Beatles aside, the last half of 1966, probably his most "normal" period.

I bet John was relaxed, during this time. The Beatles stopped touring and everyone was on break.

There was this TV special from Spain (not from the 60s, maybe from the early 2000s) that showed this colour footage of John being interviewed during filming. Someone uploaded this years ago on TH-cam, sadly the account doesn't exist. I've yet to see the footage online, and have yet to see this bootlegged/documented. At first I thought this was a recreation of his time in Spain, but it was real footage. Thank you for sharing this audio interview, thought it would have been the filmed interview.

I met John Lennon in 1961 just before his group found fame.It was the bar of the old Cavern he was talking to the boss of the club and I was a young student lost in the depths of city. Lennon called me a posh bastard push off. Later he found I was invited by another friend far greater then he . Winked from the stage at me as if it was sorry in his action.

He's right, it's hard to describe. I loved the book, I'd seen the film when I was a kid, didn't remember much of anything. When I read the book I just thought "who on earth thought of making this into a film?" However, the book is more of a rough guide for the film. I did enjoy the book!

Paul never asked for input from John in writing the score for The Family Way. He only found out from Yoko that John was very hurt by this. It’s interesting that John mentions that Paul has signed ‘us’ up to do the music for a film.

Why, why do these plonkers keep professing this lie as truth? Anyone who has been in a band understands that this myth is impossible to duplicate in real life, not to mention the Wings of Pegasus channel has disproved this idiocy by using Paul’s own voice, something that is impossible to duplicate. I’m tired of American stupidity.

John sounds like he really did not want to be interviewed here but the reporter does not seem to take the hint and keeps asking dumb questions. It's obvious John was holding his tounge when talking about Yesterday and Michelle as the reporter described them ( both Paul songs) as great and it's also abundantly clear to my ears at least that John regretted making the film. He has no real interest in it nor understands the plot. He is also unaware that Paul was writing the music on his own for the Haley Mills project which probably embarrassed him later. I've never heard this interview or remember hearing it. Not much interest here. But it's still an important Beatles document.

It seems, these type of comments from reporters asking about Paul's songs in a Lennon interview, probably created tension in the group, it seem to imply Paul was the num 1 musician of the band, also In another interview, John said, Paul got more fan mail from girls than anyone else

You should read or get the audiobook "The Memoirs of Billy Shears" or the abridged "Billy's Back". Those are quite thought provoking and if the books are fiction, they have a very unusual level of detail and liable against various people incl the Paul character. Why isn't author being sued; at minimum for publishing Beatles lyrics?
