What is so interesting about +R Testament was that he is a completely different character from previous version. Yes, he still got traps and EX Beast but everything change when they decided to give him a teleport, delay EX Beast, and Force Break Skull. All of these insane changed in exchange for a nerf to his Grave Digger invincibility and +1 frame startup of Badland (A move that was introduced in AC series and the source everything strong with AC and AC+ Testament because those badland combo loop are INSANE that work on ALL character and not weight dependent just because of one frame faster.) AC+ Testament was considered a neutral God back in the day.
@@KlineFGC You can switch back to AC+ ver. to check out how busted some characters back in the day. Like how Justice and Kliff are banned since they are unlockables from story mode and no balance was made for them or the GOD GRAPPLER POTEMKIN!!!
Oh good summary of the character's toolkit that said i would disagree with calling testament busted. Outside of EX tree which is extremely cheap and some very specific curse unblockable sequences most of test's pressure and oki have answers to it so youre still always interacting with the character for the most part. Even things like double beast oki or beast frc pressure will have options for you to either get out or at the very least mitigate TE's options and force the char to go for safer tight pressure and give up mixup potential. Another thing worth noting would be testament's antiair game being relatively awkward, with AA normals being on the slower end and shining more as preemptive options while your reactive options are fairly limited which can give characters with a strong air game a leg up in the matchup and force testament into riskier reads to stop them from getting in. Traps can complement your AA normals that said but youre generally going to have to call out the more belligerent jumpins in the game. Testament also has a fairly balanced matchup spread with most of them being on the slight advantage side, outside of extreme cases like justice. the character also has a good handful of disadvantaged ones though, like baiken/millia/axl/chipp/slayer etc. However i am definitely not arguing the character isnt S tier, testament is definitely cheap but imo as far as GG top tiers go if we look at the broader balance history of the series top tiers, +R testament is one of the most interestingly designed top tiers and i would dare say one of the more fair ones. I think calling things busted is also a bit reductive and doesnt really communicate that most tools and sequences the character can pull on you have points of interaction that you can leverage, where testament still has to play the RPS with you (weighted in TE's favor though lol). Anyway nice to see people making more regular +R content on YT, best of luck covering all the other jank in this game!
