Which model of Wolf do you play? I’m currently looking into their instruments. I played a Kronwalt at TMEA and was quite impressed. Sad that MMI didn’t bring their less expensive models
I would love to invent an alternate low e mechanism for the right pinky. Peter and the wolf would be great if bassoons had that (especially since I don't have thumb rollers)
Alas, your Eb and Db auto-close mechanisms also prevent some really nice multi-phonics from being played. But I guess that's the compromise for being able to play trills that are never written for bassoon. But that said, wanna trade bassoons? :)
Great video Bret, and certainly an interesting mechanism, thanks for showing!
definitely fascinating! it's too bad this system didn't catch on. there is much potential technique enhancement.
It would have been interesting if you could have shown some close-up because from the standing camera it is not possible to see you're showing :(
Indeed! I was about to make the same comment. Seems like a no-brainer for someone as technically savvy and detailed at Newton.

Where did you purchase this bassoon/where could i purchase it with all of the features on it? Thanks!
It was a custom order directly from the manufacturer. I worked with Guntram Wolf on this instrument over three iterations to get it where it is now.
If you do not mind telling me, How much it it cost me?
I wouldn't be able to give you a quote. It's been a dozen years and nothing was itemized.
ok thank you for the quick response! Would you be able to recommend a bassoon under 12,000 that has these features? Sorry for the excessive questions!
Under 12k? You won't find it, sorry. 12k will get you a standard model plus an option or two.
Does it also have the "missing" vent of the Weisberg system? Or some other alternative?
No Weisberg system. I'd love to have it, but the cost is huge.

Interesting... but there is not much repertoire that calls for the additional mechanisms.
You'd be surprised how often I use many of these. It just simplifies the technique in the lowest notes.
