      They were developed for the mining industry as salt levels underground can be 3 tines that of the ocean.

    I'll add a watercooled alternator to the list of mods I eventually need for the 76 before I do some longer tours then. For now, though, the factory one should do if I just keep out of the mud for a bit. Cheers Ronny.

    Hey Ronny another great video and a great product for the modern 4wd. I assume that it would out last any standard unit on any 4wd as it is sealed and water cooled. Again I assume it is repairable with new brushes and gaskets. The 140A is also great.
    Love your videos and they keep reminding me how good my Twin Cab 1HDT 80 Series is.

    and don't forget about the diodes in a regular alternator back plate. this is what got killed in my previous lada niva a dozen times after driving through mud or even muddy water, cause this is deadly conductive due to the minerals in it. with the brushes on the other hand no problems whatsoever. luckily, there's a replacement bracket around to mount the alternator on top of the engine... don’t mind, now I enjoy my LR3y

    @Ronny, thank you for interesting video. as i understand OEM USD priced alternator lasted 100 k km, without any big issues?
    Overall shall be fair to compare PDP realiability vs OEM after PDP last at least 50 k km or 100k km. Hope to see long life test.
    Comparing OEM VS PDP prices isnt cheaper to carry 1 spare alternator and price difference invest into other equipment. Event some manufacturers has products with rated 290A output and 400 USD price range.

    There is another option, the mining/military upgrade, which is available from knowledgeable Toyota dealers, that repositions the factory alternator from the orginal position to level with the top of the engine using genuine belts and Toyota engineered mounts and offers the option of the mining/military spec alternator, manufactored by Bosch, is semi sealed, completely brushless, submersible, produces 250 amps @ 1500 rpm and can be configured for either 12 or 24 volts. Upgraded wiring harness, digital dash display showing both volts and amperage is part of the package. Complete package as a factory option/fit will vary between dealers. This upgrade is a part component of a extensive Bosch/ Toyota developed mining/military suite. Another component is the fitment of a aircompressor, again utilizing Bosch/Toyota engineering. The suite, that has 180 components, is available for civilian Landcruisers, but only the Workmate, which is the base of all mining/military vehicles.

  • @OffroadLiving

    Its next on my list of upgrades 100%...take it from someone who's had this issue twice and was so clogged up it couldn't be cleaned on the car. 3-4hrs on the side of the track ripping it out of the troopie (8hrs the first time at murchison offroad) It's not fun...gotta drop panhard and steering dampener to get it out (well we couldn't get it out any other way)

  • @DRIVER50L
    @DRIVER50L 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    wish i had a spare 3k for 1 of those .. my son has gone through 4 atm and thats been within 6 months .. we are looking into relocating the alternator to the top of the motor away from the mud level as it is the mud that bogs into them every time and they dont cover water and mud with replacement warranty .. i told 1 supplier that he best change his advertising stating they are for 4wd vehicles as they certainly are not ...

    I think toyota needs to redesign where the alternator sits as it should higher in the engine bay not at the lowest point..
    I call that a design fault..
    stay out of the mud and stay away from the beaches as a salt water corrodes the larger dynamo that spins in the housing.. which has copper windings in it..

      Modern 4wds and cars manufactures have a different focus today than in the past. If you read old 4wd magazines with reviews on the new 4wds of the day you will find that alternator position among numerous other similar things where top topics that were presented for deciding if the 4wd was good or bad. Things like on road handling and on road comfort were at the bottom of the list compared to off road handling and durability and maintenance.

    • @SteveBurns80
      @SteveBurns80 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I couldn't agree more with these comments, the older 4x4s are looking more attractive every day. Unfortunately these current 70series are probably the best of a bad bunch of new generation 4wds. The fact that you pay big dollars for a so called purpose built rugged vehicle and then have to spend crazy amounts of cash just to fix what Toyota should've fixed in the first place, really adds salt to wound. 😔 I can honestly say that I would never want a late model 70series.

    Not sure if the company you named supplies the mining industry but I have heard that these alternators , water cooled, aren't 100% reliable. Have it on good info that many have been sent back because they are fucking up. Of course the mining conditions aren't what a regular 4wder would go through day to day so maybe for the average man they would be sufficient but I wouldn't call them bulletproof. As I stated ,don't know if they supply them but have been told that they are WA company

    I've worked for CarQuest for 10 years. Why not carry a can of electric motor cleaner. if you bog down in mud. disconnect power spray that baby down with some cleaner and let it dry. boom back in business. couple bucks. ??? never been in that situation but i think that may work?? CRC PART # 05718

      Daniel Roth doesnt achieve F/A
      The mud wears the parts down and sticks the brushes
      Very expensive though

    You can buy a lot of alternators for 2300$, Ronny.

      sturmtiger305mm . Very true but also semi stupid comment considering the amount of remote driving he does.

      You can't buy that many Toyota alternators for that money!

      How much will a tow truck cost from the middle of nowhere?
      Quality costs money, though I'm not surprised many 4 wheel drivers struggle with this concept, considering the amount of cheap and nasty kingz gear I see around the place.

      Didn't really think that comment through given the context of the vid champ!
