Raising someone like a Child, only to fall in love with them, does feel squicky to me. But I decided to go through with it for two reasons. One - They weren't related in any way, since it was his friends' Daughter. And 2 - They waited till she graduated College, so while there is a Major age gap, they are both grown adults, and he made her be apart from him to help her sort her feelings (as well as his own) before committing to a relationship. I still don't 100% like this kind of story, and I don't blame anyone else for not being ok with this, but this was likely the only way a story like this could be told without crossing the line completely. And through Yui, she left alittle part of herself to comfort and return the love Masoto showed for her even though she pursued Yamoto and carried his daughter. Maybe Yui is the part of Azusa that loved Masoto more then just being friends. Maybe Yui is trying to bind Masoto to Azusa because she found out that maybe they had feelings for each other but couldn't express them after the pregnancy was verified. Azusa pursuing Yamoto because he seeded her. And Masoto swallowing his feelings and stepping back into darkness as to not cause problems for Azusa and wishing her the best. Yui, being visited by her mom in spirit to verify she had feelings for Masoto and Yui acting on that and loving Masoto for loving her and her mother Azusa. Proxies herself on behalf of her mother as a reincarnated/ manifestation of Azusa for Masoto to take as a lover. Masoto fulfilling his promise to be happy making Yui happy and able to continue loving. And Azusa being happy because she has connection to Masoto in intimacy as lovers. Everyone's happy. Yamoto will scratch his head and just join in the group hug and say "oh what the heck" 🎉🤷♂️❤❤❤❤🎉

God, I hate Usagi-Drop stories like this one. This story had a perfect chance of avoiding that, especially with the kouhai's presence, but it just had to squander it.
I think that Usagi Drop did a GREAT job of showing exactly how incredibly wrong the whole thing is. I don't know if that was the mangaka's goal in particular, but literally everyone I know -- myself included -- found the pivot of the relationship into romance to be stomach-churning. The same here. It's not at all fine to marry the child you raised. Even if it is legal under the law, it's both immoral and unethical.

Maybe Azusa did have feelings for Masato. But couldn't confront him about it, and realized it was too late when she found out she was pregnant with Yamoto's daughter Yui. And maybe, this is Azusa helping Masato from beyond the grave to grow as a person. Maybe Yui is the part of Azusa that loved Masato more than just a friend, manifested in the flesh. And that this event was necessary for Masoto to experience love and life instead of regretting the past and rotting away. If you noticed, he was always observant of Azusa's happiness. And it probably took Azusa to pass on and for her to see how lonely and empty Masoto has been. She wanted to leave alittle bit of herself through Yui to return that love she experienced for Masoto. It works out to, because her daughter will be loved by Masoto, allowing for him to keep his promise to see to making Yui happy as well. Both women loving him for different reasons. Or even maybe for the same reason. Because he loves them even though they are joined though friendship, and never treated them awful even after Yamoto married Azusa and gave birth to Yui. He never shunned them after Yamoto's death either. Or, Yui comprehends Masoto's and Azusa's past friendship dynamics (and even though she has a respect and love for her Biological father Yamoto) she wanted to connect Azusa and Masoto because she feels sad Masoto maybe had hidden feelings for her mom but for some reason couldn't express them and when he found out she was pregnant with Yamoto 's seed felt he needed to back away as to not cause problems for Azusa. And so Yui proxies for her mom to try and fuse the two's love confessions. Yui, also doesn't know Yamoto, as he passed on before she was born. And so she truly loves Masoto for loving her mother Azusa, and her.
Those are vastly different situations. In the step sister trope, assuming that either of the two are adopted then theoretically their relationship would be basically glorified strangers at first. Afterwards if one side catches feelings while the other treats them like a sibling, it becomes slightly more complex but still very much justifiable because ultimately they're not blood related nor is there any kind of dependency like in a parent-child relationship. And if both sides like each other romantically, then there's absolutely nothing holding them back except for a title of platonicity.
i remember this case, basically a father abused his daughter and her mom gave her up for adoption for the daughter's safety. They got reunited years later and the dad and daughter started catching feelings and ended up being married and having a child, they got divorced one day and the daughter's bio father hunted her down killed their child and killed her and the daughter's adoptive father, then he killed himself.

I think that Usagi Drop did a GREAT job of showing exactly how incredibly wrong the whole thing is. I don't know if that was the mangaka's goal in particular, but literally everyone I know -- myself included -- found the pivot of the relationship into romance to be stomach-churning.

Or, Yui comprehends Masoto's and Azusa's past friendship dynamics (and even though she has a respect and love for her Biological father Yamoto) she wanted to connect Azusa and Masoto because she feels sad Masoto maybe had hidden feelings for her mom but for some reason couldn't express them and when he found out she was pregnant with Yamoto 's seed felt he needed to back away as to not cause problems for Azusa. And so Yui proxies for her mom to try and fuse the two's love confessions. Yui, also doesn't know Yamoto, as he passed on before she was born. And so she truly loves Masoto for loving her mother Azusa, and her.

Those are vastly different situations. In the step sister trope, assuming that either of the two are adopted then theoretically their relationship would be basically glorified strangers at first. Afterwards if one side catches feelings while the other treats them like a sibling, it becomes slightly more complex but still very much justifiable because ultimately they're not blood related nor is there any kind of dependency like in a parent-child relationship. And if both sides like each other romantically, then there's absolutely nothing holding them back except for a title of platonicity.
i remember this case, basically a father abused his daughter and her mom gave her up for adoption for the daughter's safety. They got reunited years later and the dad and daughter started catching feelings and ended up being married and having a child, they got divorced one day and the daughter's bio father hunted her down killed their child and killed her and the daughter's adoptive father, then he killed himself.
