Gold Pass was pay to progress which is fine... great value,
but the new items are very much Pay to Win... and Supercell can
always just release a new set of 'Epics' that make your set obsolete...
who knows... maybe they will release a Legendary set which is simnificantly more powerful,
but costs 10x as much to power up?
I liked what they did with adding the skins / maps / special events etc... but I do think the step towards pay to win shows that the company really is starting to try to put a price tag on being close to max / competitive at the highest levels...
The new 'Squad Busters' game... is aggressively extreme pay to win, and heavily monetized, while in the meantime free to play players are heavily crippled - I downloaded the game and played for a few weeks until I ran out of attacks, and could only hit 3 times every few hours without buying coins... I don't want to put money into a game that doesn't have a good free to play progression... and would rather use that money to go and buy a game on steam or something... :P
Squad Busters is well designed, with good music, graphics, and interesting gameplay... (and a million things to click and tap and grab your attention with) but wants money for everything - The shop is very in your face,
there are season passes, get a free item, then buy an item to get access to another free item,
pay to get the card you want, loot box mechanics, and items you can buy for a head start going in to the round ...
I never mind buying a gold pass in Clash of Clans... but Squad Busters kind of put me off even buying a clash gold pass last season... it was the first pass I have missed since passes released... but not sure if I will continue... I think I will just stick to CWL only for now... as I slowly work towards buying the set of League Token Skins... (I already have the King, and the Map)

I don’t think coc is p2w if you’re not in leader boards or competing in the championship. Because you don’t need every equipment and you don’t even need every troop. Just focus on a strategy you like and invest it because unlike clash royale, troops don’t get balance changes constantly. I just think Eric is saying these things just to pander to the general audience to feel more relatable. Just enjoy the game. And remember that you don’t NEED every equipment to be able to be a great attacker.
Some people make the game p2w for themselves thinking they must buy every equipment and max it out when realistically you only need to max out 2 equipments per hero

And honestly, I think supercell should give maxed out accounts to championship participants and I’m really sorry for eric for the shit he went through. But comparing CoC to clash royale is criminal. In CR the game becomes literally unplayable if you don’t spend money.

I disagree. Clash is a dying game. Active players decreasing every year. Only half the active players it had a few years ago. I quit when ores came out. Like Eric said, the game just feels like a chore now. Nothing but FOMO and a series of tasks. I would follow Eric to battle aces. At least we know Darian is a good CM. It all makes sense why he left SC and their rotten culture.
@@deepg7084 All I'm saying is I think you're in the minority. I love Eric, but I play clash and understand what I'm watching when I watch clash. I'm very unlikely to pick up a PC game (I don't even have a gaming PC) and learn it. Eric still gets good views on his Navi wars. You can't deny it's a massive gamble to pivot to a completely unrelated and unproven game. Clash has been around over a decade. This game could easily flop within a year or 2.

That's how I felt right before I quit. It was unhealthy. But it felt so liberating once I did quit. Stopped looking at my watch or thinking about one of the many in-game clocks. I get why people have a hard time quitting. I had two non-rushed th16s and 13 other accounts. I miss what the game used to be, but don't miss it in its current state. I hate the ore system with a passion. Not going back.

@@tj_puma I agree it's hard. Especially in the beginning when you're so used to taking out your phone and opening the game "just for 5 minutes". But as time passed I found it gets easier. I mean, I played for several years on a daily basis. I knew it was going to take some time to deprogram that addiction. It's been 8 months and I don't think about it much anymore.
But those first few months were tough, I'm ngl. I remember checking just to see what the new theme/skin was, even though I already had at least a dozen+ skins for each hero. Now I couldn't care less. Good luck man.
The game is pay to advance faster not pay to win. There’s not one singular thing that impacts battles that you can’t eventually unlock and max out for free. Whether it’s troops, hero’s, pets, equipment, whatever. Every piece of epic equipment has been unlock able for free. If you’re an active f2p player who understands how to maximize what they do have instead of bitching about someone else’s gold pass, you will be on par with anybody else EVENTUALLY. You shouldn’t be rewarded like someone who pays when you barely even grind like them anyways.
Yeah cause constantly attacking for a month straight and still not getting anywhere near enough ores for even a 1/3 of the leveling on one item, it is p2w it used to pay to progress but it’s really more so p2w now with the hero equipment and ores, like a king that’s max level loses to a level 1 king that has maxed equipment, and you’re telling me that’s not p2w?
@@theunkownboss8052 If you have a maxed king you surely have an high level gauntlet and a maxed rage vial. There is no reason to compare these two scenarios.
And if you have an high level gauntlet and a maxed rage vial there is no reason to rush to get another Barbarian King artifacts to max.
And the same is for every other heros.
If you are f2p and you have a couple of maxed artifacts for every hero you can still compete also high legend league and slowly max every other artifacts.
If you spend money with 5 Euros for each event you get tons of ores.
@@theunkownboss8052th14 f2p, i had 8 maxed equipments for th14 + 2 almost max and the rest was min level 5. war non stop, stay on fake legend you get 1000 shiny and 54 glowy everyday
P2 advance is just a subcategorie of p2w though. Not as bad as a otherwise unobtainable advantage but still bad if you take equippment into account and that u have to pay to have everything max with the speed new equipment comes out
Hi Eric, sorry but I don't agree with your analogy of P2W becuz any base is possible to clear in a multiple ways, even if they don't have the max equipment, with the equipments they do have they can clear a base. And if a player has spent money to fasten their progression, they should be allowed a bit of advantage. It's not like we can't reach to that progress, it just takes a lot more time

The game has been in a horrible state recently and am not talking about the Ongoing controversy, Iam simply talking about how the game uses equipments or presenting them as a fun thing to use even tho it’s a delusion to hide behind a pay wall .
The game has become so boring every since th16 not to mention they have made the game easier in all townhall levels not just for casuals but also bad players.
Clash of clans back in the day was about planning your attack around troops but now it’s planning your attack behind equipments because of how stupidly overpowered they are .
Not to mention introducing hard mode is basically a indirect confession that the game is easy mode . Not to mention it literally has 0 influence on the game because players like me don’t do friendly wars or find fun in fc’s we want it implemented in cwl or regular wars.!
This game is TOO BORING because it’s TOO EASY.
And for those people who say that ohhh get over it not everyone want to sweat . Well

Alot of OG players who are still playing have a lot of things going on in their life right now. Making it relatively easier is good for the game in the long run for casuals, while hard mode is good for the pros.
I think Legends league should be in hard mode

The problem is not with the equipment, it’s about how fast they release it . I had similar issue with other games that they release new things to game every 2 week And It make the game disadvantage for f2p players. Supercell still in the starting stage and can be saved .
Edit- I always welcome new things to game as it evolving to keep up with other new games and give the game a fresh experience. July update is so cool that they took a break from it .
I agree but the thing is you don’t need all of the equipment to succeed, I have clan mates that attack with the og equipment and still find huge success, if you execute your attack properly you can still 3 star easily. Equipment just makes it easier but it’s still possible
@@itskiki4979 💯 . The new equipment issue and pay to win only effect the top tier / eSports players as they depends on base building and giving everything to be in that competitive tier. I am playing this game from 2015 and having fun. There's no crazy equipment usage in clan wars

Equipment is just an overall problem in general. It allows players who SUCK (calling out all the spam edrag losers) do much better because of it... on top of them nerfing the defenses. The game was perfectly fine the way it was before, before equipment and all that. The game has now just become spam instead of actually having skill, at least in the casual aspect. Its so boring going to war, and all you see throughout all the townhalls is edrag this, edrag that, edrag, edrag, edrag like bro... there's no way you can use one troop since release for YEARS on end and not get bored. Also, yes, this is still an EQUIPMENT issue but edrags are an issue as well... and the defense nerfs.

I think it is fine as long as you are playing 1 or 2 accts. Anything more would be to much.
I strongly agree currently for pros it gives a substantial advantage to use $ compared to before.
I think the game will likely will eventually return to a similar level of pay to progress. As the primary reason we are so behind on equipment is that there were so many released at the start. Slowly, but surely a player can make ground on maxing the equipment at a faster pace than new equipment is released.
^ Note I haven’t actually worked out the math for this regarding Starry Ore.

Im a fully max (as much as is possible so far), fully f2p player (not 1 penny) and its obvious to me the game has become intollerably p2w since th15, but still ever increasing its p2w-ness. It's now worse than ever. When th16 dropped, i had BARELY finished upgrading th15. But, now, i can't keep up at all.
I have a max set of first th16 equipment, and a single piece of the newest ones (newer ones are stronger). Newer ones = rocket spear, fireball, giant arrow, spikey ball. If they keep releasing stronger and stronger equipment, I'll always be at a disadvantage.
Honestly, if they just slow down updates, it will be fine, like it was for the first 10 years. As long as i can finish upgrading an update half way till the next update, then I'll be max half the time (being max is the only time it's fair). That would be perfectly acceptable. We were ALL fine with that. Im hoping they adjust and don't have offense updates for a long time. It's going to take 6 months to finish existing equipment. Or, they can drop a mountain of orbs on us well before the next update to help us catch up.

I want to play the game knowing upgrades won't take an eternity to upgrade, constantly search for bases for enough loot to attack, upgrades that won't cost an arm and a leg for th13, it is not even th 16 it is th 13. I really wish we could turn back time where clash royale was actually good and everything was balanced

Hard mode may have fixed TH16 competitive scene, but it did nothing to lower THs. For years TH9 have been running no cc and many other restrictions, most th12 tournaments bans siege, supers, zaps, some even headhunters. Wished there was an actual fix to the lower THs. “Hardmode” now at th12 is easier than normal mode 7 months back
Hard mode is still easy imo, i can easily 3 most bases with a few root riders, valks and druins

I personally disagree wwith you about the pay2win discussion.
It's not true that in the past for a f2p player took a couple of weeks to reach the p2p player and having everything maxed.
When a new TH is realesed or when there is a new update a lot of competitive players used to spend hundreds of dollars to max all the buildings, troops, heroes, spells and pets and the f2p only some months later used to be able to max everything.
The war between a maxed TH and a not maxed TH are completely unfair so spending money to skip the upgrades is huge.
With reference to the artifacts the situation is completely different.
EVerything can be maxed in a couple of months (as for the buildings) but you can also decide to never upgrade an artifacts that you don't like and this doesn't affect your offence or defence.
If the spear is realesed the proplayers can spend money to max it and the f2p can wait and max it later.
We have to be honest, especially in this meta if you don't have a maxed spear your offence is not minimally affected so there is no reason to think that this artifact sistem is getting the game more p2win.
Play to progress not to win. You can buy everything and be a terrible attacker and not 3 star a lower lvl base. You still have to have some skill. Of course skill lvls can be higher than others but also be lower than others. I only buy gold pass and event passes now. I have 2 TH16's almost maxed, almost maxed TH14, almost maxed TH12 and an almost maxed TH10. It's not that hard to not buy a bunch of stuff when you get maxed at each TH before you jump to the next TH

Equipments are P2W currently. They give you advantage in every offense.
And your anology applies to every game. A low skillset player will be bad but it is about how much the paying of money improves your skill floor in the game. So a low skill set player will likely be punching way above his weight.

If an equipment is in some way nerfed in the future (I suspect they may try and nerf Gauntlet) it hurts you because you just lose everything you put into the item.
Equipment's usability is determined by Supercell. A phone's usuability is determined by how good you take care of it.

I think it is fine that they are designing the game towards having only a single account. However it is sad for all those veterans (me included) that have to abandon their alt accounts in order to enjoy the game and stay competitive on their main account.
I also think this hard mode who should be regular because it makes no sense to buy pro bases from BP site when u can easily 3 star any base with this abilities and Druid troop . These Druid and abilities are way too op . U should make a video about this

I left clash royale I have been grinding literally the day of released, it's so sad and same time sk frustrating that every single good thing is now in real money not even gems that we can even grind.
I think most of us with multiple accounts created them for donations and to spend more time on the game, which are already solved problems. For pro players, paying to get access to the full potential, like in other games or sports, sounds logical to me. However, for casual players, who represent the majority of the community, it is a huge mess.

I feel like the hero equipment isnt any more pay to win than the normal game already was. If someone just downloaded the game today, they would need to either spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to max everything to compete at the highest level, or wait 2 years to reach the top level. Its the same with the hero equipment. You can either spend a crud ton of money to have the best, or you can wait a year and grind the ores you need.
my main account is almost 5 yrs old and i still have maybe 5 months left till I'm maxed on my defense and that's with sc making the lower defense upgrade time shorter(lvl 17 cannon and archer tower is only 3 days to be lvl 18). My troop lvl and equipment are a different topic all together . i have only bought 2 gold passes and 2 event passes as of rn.

Eric what do you think the best way to solve the Pay2Win issues would be? I think a huge overhaul of the cost distribution for equipments or a system which gives you starting levels for epics based on your hero levels could be good.
I fully agree with you. Too many events and way too many equipment. I have 3 accs and don’t have any maxed out equipment. The ones that I have that are at adecent lvl are the only ones I can use because the other is too low.
It used to be that the 5$ a month gold pass would be enough to catch you up. Now even with a 7$ a month gold pass you are falling behind.

Well if people are paying then they should get some value
But the difference should not be this big
Gold pass is good, no issues with that
In 1 month you can get 10 days of more builder value & that's descent
But the event passes are totally P2W
We don't get any stary ores
But in the event pass, we get 80
For a th 16 player, if he continuously plays wars & wins all of them, then he can get 80 ores in 13 or 14 days
How is that fair
Difference should not be this big
Atleast give F2P players some thing
30,60 or 25, 60 would be a good ratio
But 0, 80 is brutal

I have been burned out by the game for over a year now. I've dropped off almost entirely. I stopped watching most content creators, stopped coming to streams, and unsubbed several CoC Twitch streamers all because of the events and nonstop microtransactions. There's a whole theme every month with 4 skins and a scenery. Then, you have to get the new hero equipment. And attack, Attack, ATTACK to get the reward or upgrade the new stuff. I barely check in on 9 accounts and only really play on 1, because the game just asked more and more and more of my time, energy, and money.
Eric has been the only one entertaining enough to keep me in it at all. It's awful to see that SC's soul-sucking has extended to him. I knew Eric would leave/retire from Clash eventually, but I never imagined it would be on a bad note. If he wants to move on to something else and this relationship (between Eric and SC) is irreparable, then we (Eric and his community) will move on to the next thing, I suppose. I just hope the future is brighter than all this.

I quit way back when th13 was max. There being th16 or 17? At this point is comical. Same old bs. It's a fun game but it's Not for people who actually want to max their account because they make it literally impossible.

Hey Eric, are there any tournaments that are in Hard Mode and only allow default equipment? That ruleset comes very close to replicating TH15 meta and difficulty. I would love to watch that as I very much enjoyed TH15 esports.
spending spree gems just to finish a task.. likely a th14 vs th16 at legend league just to make percentage is so hard for me.. as you said, this game is not that fun anymore coz you have to PAY TO WIN.. gems are so expensive
Maybe it is related to Tencent that the game is getting more P2W? In Blags 2’a video it talks about Tencent actually owns a majority of Supercell and makes decision even though Supercell claims independence.

One thing they can do is make a function to decide the level of equipments(doesn't matter if you have that equipment or not) as well as ban troops in friendly wars.. like clash royale EVENTS where they decide certain cards to either have to have in the deck or not have in the deck..

I'm not going to play anymore unless they treat you fairly, honestly my decision of continuing to play or not will be based on if Eric continues to cover clash of clans or not! 💕
Supercell needs to see the value you bring to the table. It's about the integrity of Clash esport and everyone involved. From individual players to community managers to the dev's own employees. If they're smart they will let this one go and reinstate your program partnership.
#StopSuperCell let's just put an end to this game honestly it is just a shell of it former self. Morals changed, company discussions made all its games paid to win. It is just no longer fun to play knowing you won't be able to play it for free and reach max th within 2 years.

Yeah I agree I think they are doing just a bit too much with the events, and definitely feeling a little burned out lately. I get they want to prevent boredom with the game but at the rate they are releasing stuff, it is unrealistic for anyone to keep up and it is changing the game so rapidly it doesn't give the community much time to develop in the current meta before it changes again. Its like a meta roller coaster

They didn't give chance to navi for playing may month qualifications after DQ their April month silver ticket. So VM can't play this month qualifications?
I think that was because phase 1 of that qualifier had already completed with pcastro on the team. That isn’t the case for VM as far as I can tell

Game has totally turned into a chore since all the equipment. I have 4 accounts and can't really bring myself to play because its SO much work now.
But still compared to navi it's not enough supercell removed the st and ban them to play may qualifier but for vm they ban only ninj not fluxxy and they not ban from July qualifier

The game has always been pay to win there is just much more to pay for now. Nothing has changed in this sense besides equipment existing and taking longer to upgrade than we are used to. I do agree that it is a little more pay to win now than it used to be tho

I use to love it back in 2014. Now it has more battle pass in a months than troops count. The game was pay to win back then. But you can play it still. Now if you don’t pay you can’t keep up. For town hall 11 or less it’s not that obvious. But after town hall 13 it’s a nightmare. People got advantage from more and more “small payments “.All different benefits from small battle pass or other deals accumulated in a big balloon.
I wouldn't call the season pass p2w at all. I buy it some months and some months I don't buy it. All it is doing is speeding up your progress. Even if I didn't buy it at all eventually I would catch up to the max townhall in the future. They make the upgraded shorter and shorter so we can catch up. Obviously if you do buy it, it will help but its not p2w and coc is a company so they need a source of income
100% agree on the part regarding epic equipments and the constant events, I have multiple accounts and I almost stopped playing cause i can’t keep up anymore
