      @@josephdwarrenTesla did imagine them to the detail without making prototypes, all in his head. My question would be what would be the process?
      I feel like he used boredom as you discussed AND hypnagogia (alpha & delta) brain states to be the most creative. For example, he only used to sleep around 4 hours daily and in a polyphasic sleep schedule. This likely gave him a lot more frequency than the average person to get into the "dreamy state".
      Thomas Edison used a similar tactic. He would take naps and would sleep with a ball on his hand. When he drifted asleep the ball would hit the metal plate or ground and wake him up.
      I wonder if any other thing was involved...

    • @josephdwarren
      @josephdwarren  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Alex-ns6hj Tesla probably had off the charts spatial and visual intelligence as well, and a level of drive that most people do not possess. That sleep schedule probably had something to do with it as well. Great point! It's like he built his life around being as productive and creative as possible, so he was able to get a lot of use out of his ideas.
      As for his nemesis Edison. I've tried that napping technique before, and honestly I just fell back asleep lol. There is something to be said for using the state of mind after sleep, though. I have been experimenting with something similar recently where I get to work on the most important task of the day first thing after waking up. It's working a lot better than my old elaborate morning routine so far. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the thoughtful comment!

    I do this a lot with everyday tasks a lot too, especially when I lack motivation. I zero in on the task I need to do but am avoiding, then set a timer to sit and do nothing for 5 minutes. Usually after 2 or 3 minutes I get to it because doing the thing doesn’t seem so bad anymore.
    It’s also a really great way to tell if I’m tired or just lazy. If the boredom purely makes me feel better because I can rest, then I’m actually tired and I need a break.

    Damn this was a really good video. What a gem. I wrote 2 pages of notes for myself while watching the video and I plan to start implementing what I learned right now. I'm about to go to bed and I always go to bed with audio playing, because the only moment when I can stand the silence is when I'm being productive, or meditating, or out in nature. Because those things are innately not boring. I am somewhat of an insomniac so I'll just allow myself to be bored, see how that goes.

    Writing down ideas is really important. I'm a maladaptive daydreamer and most of the stuff I used to imagine would just be gone the next day 😅 Even if you think about a good idea a lot and don't forget it, its first emergence is always the most exciting and detailed impression. It's better to act on a good idea while the excitement is fresh and finish what you start than to wait for a better one and end up amusing yourself with 20 good ideas.

    • @josephdwarren
      @josephdwarren  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great point, Paixi! I agree. The practice of finishing what you start is so important because you learn a lot in that process. It's so easy to get swept up in new ideas, though. 😅 Thanks for watching 🔥🔥🔥

      My own personal problem with this is when I get a really good Idea during an MDD episode that is super detailed vibrant and unfolding right before my eyes when I write it down or voice record myself explaining it it's as if the spark diminishes and then I leave it to rot in the archives also it triggers me to abandon that scene and makes me create another world 🥲

    I like the main takeaways (IE, remove distractions, control your environment, finding your internal voice etc). but this ‘get ahead of 95% of people’ is pointlessly competitive… I think the point is made better when it’s more about hitting your goals rather than feeling good in comparison to the slovenly plebs…

    • @josephdwarren

      Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! I am more for self-competition, or working to be the best version of yourself. Competition is a good motivation for some people (myself included), though. But once you get to a certain point, it is best to just be the best version of yourself as possible and provide as much value to others as you can.

    I grew up in the 80s-90s and I'm so glad I had the chance to be "bored" so often, happily filling my mind with imagination, ideas, books and just soaking in the beauty of nature, fully present. Sure, there was TV (lots of it) and I had a commodore 64 to play with (still lots haha), but there was balance and my brain wasn't so overloaded with stimuli like it is so easily today. I am now trying to mindfully recreate that mental "silence" from time to time and it is so enjoyable to just let myself be and see what happens

    • @josephdwarren
      @josephdwarren  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Currently I'm struggling on the marketing aspect because it takes time and effort. I know roughly what I need to do, but because i fill all the time i could be learning with scrolling on social media instead it's been hard to get done. I'm also not sure what the best process for digital marketing is yet

    Random but I went to undergrad at that University and worked at that library since freshmen year, so it was cool to identify it from the clip bait. Anyways, I feel the same way about alcohol consumption. I wish more people were brave enough to seat in a normal conversation or hang out without any sip of alcohol. Go through the awkward pauses, topics, opinions, lame jokes etc. Embrace being uncomfortable, it's normal.
