I want to thank you for sharing this here. I did exactly what you mentioned here and it released my brake gear shift. Plus the brake light is now working. Just because of this relay switch. I used an existing one from the fog light and switched with brake gear relay and they both still work great.
Had that problem couple years ago paid a few hundred dollars to fix now for the first time I see what they did and for $30 if it's fixed thank you the you very much very much appreciated you look so easy doing it thank you again
That's great news. I have changed the entire shift lock solenoid and fixed the problem for a couple of years. It's a $130 fix that has started acting up again. I much prefer to change the relay for $30. Thanks :)
Thanks - very informative. It was just the blue relay switch. I had purchased the entire lock assembly, but the removal of the forward release cable is near impossible, or I just couldn't figure it out.
So I posted this video on 2012 and today 2015 start to fail the shift lock again the price of the relay went up 40 bucks but when I bought the new one the guy a nissan was so pushy to make me get a inspection for $150 and I refuse I get home change again and it working just fine again
+707chapin I have same pathfinder with same problem. I removed the relay and then removed the blue plastic cover. I burnished the relay NO contacts with 600 grit wet or dry emery paper. I blew out the relay with air. Tested the relay loose in the car, worked fine. Put the blue plastic cover back on and reinstalled the relay. Saved $40 but this relay will fail again someday but for an old car it seemed the reasonable thing to do.
My 2000 Nissan Frontier does that once in a while to...I took the center console and gear cover out and there is a plastic piece on the right side of the shifter that gets stuck.
