From The Darkness is an amazing game! Personally, I think there was history about all these events. I suppose it was even linked to 1930s years in the Soviet Union, when it was really dark. And probably his granddad did bad things. The pictures in the apartment show interesting facts, where one of them portrayed some mass murder. There are lots of details. Even who are those ghosts in the apartment? Those who were murdered? And interesting, but the game is short, though it has lots of additional information about what is happening in the game. I finished it in 1,5 hours or something, though it was frightening. Especially in the beginning.

In a parallel universe i wish there's a version of me that's playing these games alone in the house at the middle of the night without being scared. but sadly in this world I will never touch any of these games.
i mean, horror videogames aren't real, they just try to mess up with your instincts, the fight or flight thing and your reflexes, also on how you can recognize that stuff. some jumpscares are unrealistic, like moving too fast, some too big, etc. so they don't work on me. even if some jumpscares could be possible in real life i still think that it's not real, so if you have a strong will it doesn't affect you.
I remember the ps2 title called SIREN or FORBIDDEN SIREN. That was one of the hardest and scariest games i ever played. Sure there are other like silent hill but Siren takes you to another level. It non linear and you play with dozen charachters all intertwined at some point.
Oooh yeash! Siren! Although, I prefer the sequel because it gave a clear hint on how to complete secondary mission. Also, the "re-imagine" of Siren on PS3 wasn't too shabby at all. Just lack of secondary mission/re-play ability.
I played and finished all of them except number 4. I wouldn't say it was a walk in the park for me but I made it. If I had to choose one as the best I would pick 'The Beast Inside'. It simply contains all the elements (spooky atmosphere, amazing graphics, great story and a dynamic protagonist with incredible voice acting that makes you feel his mental instability). It's also the longest indie game I ever played and it takes around 5 hours. Indicted looked like a game that has potential but I feel that the developer didn't have a plan beside the nice visuals.
I thought The Beast Inside was done really well. I haven't played any of the other games on this list, but I also think Visage would be a great fit for it. Perception is also a pretty good horror game, but is fairly different from the other games. About 7 years ago, there was a game called Allison Road that, had it been released, would have been a great fit for this list. Unfortunately, it was canceled and will probably never see the light of day. However, I would recommend watching what little bit of gameplay is available.
@@nickerickson7324 Do you think Scarier than the From the Darkness? I played with the Visage and I saw in video the Fromt the Darkness. That’s to horror game very good But Wich is scarier?
@világ istene I have from the darkness I just haven't played it yet but I can vouch Visage is pretty damn scary. There's 4 different stories once you start one you start one you have to finish it before starting the next.
From the Darkness reminds me a lot of Layers of Fear, where you basically wait until a scary thing appears until you can proceed and/or rooms rearrange throughout. I never played From the Darkness but I remember the first play through of Layers of Fear was terrifying.
Fear is such a difficult emotion to replicate and define, especially when you consider exactly what kind of fear you're trying to portray. Fictional fear can be difficult because you know it isn't real and can't hurt you. Plus, most of it revolves around concepts that most are desensitised to. Most of us have spent most of our lives wandering the dark halls of imaginary fear Real fear is completely different. When you're in a situation where there is a strong chance that you actually could die is true fear, but it can only be experienced for real
Real fear is weird though, because when I've been in real-fear situations, I have sometimes gone completely numb and calm, and only after the situation had the "panic" feeling. I think it's a defense mechanism, I completely emotionally disassociate in situations that could actually harm me. I experienced a lot of fear growing up in a house with substance abuse problems and violence, so I think I became numb to it. Feels like my emotions just yeet out and I feel like I'm in a video-game or movie, watching myself in third person instead of actually experiencing it. But fear can be addictive too, we are drawn to horror because the adrenaline gets us high. First we're scared and after we feel relief and awake, it's like a stimulant. Same reason some people get addicted to war and combat, addicted to jumping from planes or climbing impossibly deadly mountains. In those moments, you feel truly alive.
for me zombie games are becoming more 'Action' than 'horror'. They don't have elements that make them scary but they definitely provide amazing action experience.
I was like, "Wow, I wanna try to do some of these!" Then remembered most horror games have flashing lights in them. So if somebody could cure this seizure thing and help a brother out, that'd be appreciated
So hard to choose! Do I want to play as the hand holding the flashlight, hand holding a flashlight, hand holding a camera or hand holding a flashlight?
Lawd I must be insane because I have played almost all of these and finished them. Now I have screamed and almost passed out while playing them....but I played them lmao🤣

@@zayareaa Yesterday I played one of the scariest horror games I've ever played. If this was a full horror game, it would be the scariest horror game in the world. When will the full version come out?
From the Darkness was terrifying and very well done. Some of the others were good as well (The Beast Inside, Rise of Insanity, 8 Child's Street). Good list.
I couldn't finish Visage, myself. I liked the game, but when a horror game is constantly intense and there's no break from it at all, I just can't keep up with it. I actually find it exhausting. I like the ebb and flow of a game that is horror, but I'm not constantly on the edge of a jump scare (which I do like occasionally, when they are earned). I guess it's the pacing I enjoy better. I'm willing to give almost all horror games a try, but whether I keep up with them is another story! I did enjoy all out Outlast/Outlast 2/DLC and the newer RE games. All that said, I wish more of these games were on console.
It's interesting how many people stated that they couldn't finish Visage, it's really one of the most intense horror games ever created. The next video will be about the scariest horror games of all time and Visage will definitely be in the top 3.
i played the beast inside few months ago and the story got me hooked in, heck it's one of the few recent games in my library that got me excited to finish my work to play it
As soon as you escape that area in 'From the Darkness', the game goes downhill from there and isn't as scary. It was better as a demo because it ended there. Why isn't 'Visage' on here? It is the only horror game I haven't finished because it was too horrifying. Actually didn't even get past the first chapter.....
@@Amp661 I finished Visage, and I don't really understand all the love it gets. I found it good and creepy for a while, but before long fear gave way to irritation, and I just wanted it to be over. Like, the first few times the lights turn off on their own, it's damn scary. The 100th time, it's just annoying. However, it is worth playing just for the kitchen appliance scene. That was one of the most mind-bogglingly hilarious things I've ever seen in a game.
It's definitely one of the scariest games he's ever played. Would love to watch him play through some of these others as well, minus _Oxide Room 104,_ of course, since he already played that one.
All of these games were amazing/scary... I really enjoy Beast inside i want more games like that. Last year Madison was my fav game it was really good i am replaying it again on hard mode right now.
As someone who have been playing and watching horror games and movies (and i mean really hardcore stuff, from crimes to sci-fi, to demonic entities to more...) i can tell you this, they have a really really bad impact on your mental and emotional health later in life, i started getting into horror stuff when i was 12 anything dark and scary i loved it kept digging too deep for more but after 12 years when just stopped, it all came in, really bad nightmares, confusion bad emotional control, it just was really bad took me couple of years to settle again. Even though i still like dark themes, but I know where to stop now, ya know drawing lines for yourself is always helpful.
i’ve noticed this too. i was desensitized to horror and gore for a bit growing up since i had consumed so much content that consisted of those themes. but i’d have sleep paralysis episodes nonstop for about five to six years and i was incredibly depressed. after i stopped watching back in 2020, those sleep paralysis episodes have stopped (and it used to be a nightly basis). and i’ve gotten somewhat better mentally.
@@p.enelopeyeah i had sleep paralysis as well, but i used to take naps during the day so i would have them during the day too. It was awful. But yeah too much of anything is never good.

From The Darkness was the first indie horror game I ever played for PC, and my god was it fascinating. I believe its in one of the first instances, where you see the door is cracked, but the little detail of the 2 eyes looking at you creeped me the fuck out.

Not gonna lie. The title of this video sounded like something watchmojo would come up with so I thought the games were going to be trash or just the same old games like Outlast. But this actually turned out to be a good list.

If you're looking for one that using the classic fix-camera angle, I'd love to recommend "Song of Horror". It was a solid one! Best to play it with earphone. The game like to play with expectation, and it has lots of unseen jumpscare/scary events in each episode that you need to play it more than once just to see them all. Plus, there are multiple characters you can choose before the start of an episode. Each will have one character that truly fit that corresponding episode and will give you more context of the past. And even if you don't choose that one, the rest still give you a whole different perspective.
It would be cool if the game autosaved, so it looks like something is gonna happen but nothing does. It'd keep you on your toes the whole time, and then maybe the second time it autosaves you would just dismiss it as a joke, and then, BOOM! A chase sequence or something. Whaddya think?
All of these games look like UE5 asset flip walking simulators without a failed game state. If people haven’t been able to finish them, it’s because of boredom.
So I'm now midway through a playthrough of the no 1. game and I have to say it is more terrifying than any studio produced horror game I have ever played. Really wanted to finish it in one sitting but it was too intense so I am now delaying finishing it. Maybe next day.
i played most silent hill games through but i couldnt finish shattered memories , there was something in the running away segments that freaked the fuck out of me , you can't fight you must only run from creatures and sometimes you dont know where to run so you just shoulder smash doors open the camera is dizzying and the creatures grab you and take away your health all this combined with the feeling of being lost and just wanting out of that hell , every time i finished a running segment i felt emotionally worn out and had shaky hands XD

i mean, horror videogames aren't real, they just try to mess up with your instincts, the fight or flight thing and your reflexes, also on how you can recognize that stuff. some jumpscares are unrealistic, like moving too fast, some too big, etc. so they don't work on me. even if some jumpscares could be possible in real life i still think that it's not real, so if you have a strong will it doesn't affect you.
I remember the ps2 title called SIREN or FORBIDDEN SIREN. That was one of the hardest and scariest games i ever played. Sure there are other like silent hill but Siren takes you to another level. It non linear and you play with dozen charachters all intertwined at some point.
siren was actually made by the creator of the first silent hill, along with a few other people who worked on the first game
They have it on PS4
@@yeegan69 i wish more of the great ps2 games (especially the horror games) were available on PS4/5
Oooh yeash! Siren! Although, I prefer the sequel because it gave a clear hint on how to complete secondary mission. Also, the "re-imagine" of Siren on PS3 wasn't too shabby at all. Just lack of secondary mission/re-play ability.
yes forbidden siren 1 and 2.good game but full of bugs, unplayable
24:19 I have never been jump-scared that bad in my life
I played and finished all of them except number 4.
It looks like a movie Sinister.
I've been on the fence with the beast inside. Might check it out now
I thought The Beast Inside was done really well.

From the Darkness reminds me a lot of Layers of Fear, where you basically wait until a scary thing appears until you can proceed and/or rooms rearrange throughout. I never played From the Darkness but I remember the first play through of Layers of Fear was terrifying.
Layers of fear caught me off guard everytime, I felt like my heart was going to explode
Fear is such a difficult emotion to replicate and define, especially when you consider exactly what kind of fear you're trying to portray. Fictional fear can be difficult because you know it isn't real and can't hurt you. Plus, most of it revolves around concepts that most are desensitised to. Most of us have spent most of our lives wandering the dark halls of imaginary fear
Real fear is completely different.

These are the ones that can be called 'horror games'. I don't like it when people consider zombie games as horror.
The reason why people call zombie games, horror. That is because that's exactly what they are.
But they are. At least some of them
@@lerchomat More survival horror than normal horror.
for me zombie games are becoming more 'Action' than 'horror'. They don't have elements that make them scary but they definitely provide amazing action experience.

I was like, "Wow, I wanna try to do some of these!" Then remembered most horror games have flashing lights in them. So if somebody could cure this seizure thing and help a brother out, that'd be appreciated
Super surprised to not see Darkwood on here. Like 8% of the people who played that game made it to the second HALF of it.
So hard to choose! Do I want to play as the hand holding the flashlight, hand holding a flashlight, hand holding a camera or hand holding a flashlight?

From the darkness:Next thing I know that Markiplier twerking
All these years and STILL people don't know what fear is and how to create it in a video game.
You’re right man. Literally not one single scary game out there.
I haven't even played it, only watched a walkthrough and couldn't finish it. Made it to about 40 min.
Visage is that intense?
@@Amp661 I finished Visage, and I don't really understand all the love it gets. I found it good and creepy for a while, but before long fear gave way to irritation, and I just wanted it to be over. Like, the first few times the lights turn off on their own, it's damn scary. The 100th time, it's just annoying.
However, it is worth playing just for the kitchen appliance scene. That was one of the most mind-bogglingly hilarious things I've ever seen in a game.

bro I can't even hide in the comment section here. Why does this have so little comments when the video is this spooky.
20 years ago I would have loved to play all of these games, but today, at 42, I don't think I can do it.
You haven’t seen shit!

From the darkness is a masterpiece.
From The Darkness was the first indie horror game I ever played for PC, and my god was it fascinating. I believe its in one of the first instances, where you see the door is cracked, but the little detail of the 2 eyes looking at you creeped me the fuck out.
Agreed. Since it was released, I don't think I've come across a similar game when it comes to the creepy atmosphere. The apartment is frightening on so many levels.
@@KazzaGamesTV Ya that soviet apartment is forsure terrifying. I wish they would make another game similiar to that, maybe a bigger story or something. Game had me on edge THE WHOLE TIME.
Not gonna lie. The title of this video sounded like something watchmojo would come up with so I thought the games were going to be trash or just the same old games like Outlast. But this actually turned out to be a good list.
I tried to add the interesting less known games and avoided the same popular ones because most people already know them any way. Glad that you liked the list.

Thank you for reminding me that I own the Beast Inside. I have to figure out how to play it because for whatever reason I can never get it to start up. Would have refunded it, but I bought it in a sale and forgot about it for a while and now I think I'm out of my window.
2:11 my awesome voice acting 😂
Indeed, and so is mine on the other side of the phone 😂
@@KevinAlexsson Much better though haha
If you're looking for one that using the classic fix-camera angle, I'd love to recommend "Song of Horror". It was a solid one! Best to play it with earphone. The game like to play with expectation, and it has lots of unseen jumpscare/scary events in each episode that you need to play it more than once just to see them all.
Plus, there are multiple characters you can choose before the start of an episode. Each will have one character that truly fit that corresponding episode and will give you more context of the past. And even if you don't choose that one, the rest still give you a whole different perspective.
