The sound and spacious feel is similar to what I captured in my Metro Bilbao video. That system opened twenty years earlier, and still looks futuristic because it was designed by Sir Norman Foster.
Very interesting arrangement to use a fixed lateral aerial third rail, rather than the suspension dropper catenary. I wonder if there was a specific reason to adopt a rigid rail. I know they get a lot of rainy weather, but that seems unrelated. I’m not sure aesthetically if the sight lines aren’t just as obscured with the “bar” hanging above. I kind a thought this sight-issue of using thin cable was unanimous, until i saw this video.. Thanks for enlightening us.
It seems to be the newest catenary technology at least in city areas. Requires less headroom, lower ceiling the underground area, and offers better stability of the catenary.
Dumb question time! What voltage is that overhead, and it really is a combination of Catenary and third rail??! About the only other place, that has a similar operation is Budapest, and that's from the last century! Panama has a well laid out, well maintained, and beautiful stations, some one put a lot excellent design work, and thought into that system! Definitely one for inspiration! It can be done!! Thanks again for an interesting video! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! 😊
Says here that the overhead “rail” provides 1500 volts DC. That’s twice the ordinary third rail voltage of 750 volts DC. For what it’s worth, the lovable, street running South Shore Line in Indiana to Chicago is also 1500 VDC on an ordinary “ trolley” wire. So the “ floating” third rail is not electrically necessary.
@@thisismyname007 That 1500 volt standard was used in Britain for electrifications,[LNER,Woodhead Tunnel- Manchester, and London suburban],and the DL&W,Illinois Central, and C,SS,&B,were also on the same system! Looks to be a very clean, decent metro system. Hopefully, it will be expanded as proposed
No parece, es.
It should be extended line to Tocumen Airport for air-rail transit.

Yeah they are currently building at the airport at the new terminal they just finished building, to connect everything
The extension to the airport is currently in 80% completion and the line 3 that will cross the Canal started construction last year.

I read in a paper somewhere i think that a rigid catenary was chosen to reduce maintenance costs, at a higher initial price.
