Cannot wait for the follow-up episode you seemed to promise, dedicated to the more modern sculpture of MOTU figures. As an adult, a toy collector and customizer, I greatly appreciated the newer run of MOTU figures in more unique and differing physiques than the classic run. Particularly Beast-Man with a sort of hunched back, and dragging arms.
I think the reason it failed was due to the good guys looking too generic. The previous line had a bird man, a bee man, a robot man... The only normal humans among the Heroic Warriors I recall were He-Man and his variations, Man-At-Arms, King Randor, Fisto and Clamp Champ.
I was just a huge He Man fan as a kid but somehow completed missed this series. I never even knew it existed until years later when it was already forgotten.
This looked like a really cool toy line. Unfortunately, I was long past playing with toys when these released. At least I get an awesome history lesson from you Ed!
Me and my bro both had the He-man figure and the power sword. The figures broke at the knees very quickly, but the swords lasted a very long time and through some very rough and painful sword fights. We also listened to the cassette tape a LOT. Multiple times a day. Drove my parents mad.
I was too young to experience the original MOTU, but I did get some from yard sales or thrift shops. I wasn't aware of the space He Man as I was all about TMNT and GI Joe!
This toy line Will always have a special place in my life and heart it was my sixth birthday and my mum threw a huge party for me and all my friends from my class came on the Sunday and one of my good friends Daniel farmer bought me the human figure I was thinking to myself “this doesn’t look like a man“? The party raged on we had so much fun played games listen to music played with toys (This was before video games took over the world) my mum let me have the next day off school to stay at home and chill and I woke up super early and bang there it was on ITV the debut episode of the new adventures of He-Man! I grabbed my finger and held the close and love the haircut of the show I was so happy that Daniel Farmer hooked me up especially because he bought me the main character I’ll never forget that moment
As a purist who loved and lived for original MOTU I was so turned off by this line even though I was too old by then..with that said I give props to this line for lasting 4 years. Not too shabby
When it was aired in my country in 1990, I never forget the feeling of confusion at first, but i watched it religiously until the last episode. I loved it just as i loved the Filmation version.
Orko announcing the commercial break made my entire night! Nostalgia! I loved this episode. I never watched the new adventures. I saw that it was free on Peacock I should check it out! :D Thank you for brightening my night yet again! I hope you're doing well!
You can still buy Spaceship Eternia, brand new, in some european online stores. Most of the vehicles were made in Spain, so they are quite common here as new old stock.
I like what they did in the comics where She-Ra goes into space too. My favorite episodes in the original series was the crossover/team up ones. Love your videos dude. 👍
Ed the toy history videos awesome..👏 Thanks for putting in the work to bring us back to our youth.. got a two pack felt like they were knockoffs from the original line.. But loved that sword when I was younger..
I found the sword in box at a fleamarket but sold it cuz i was focusing on motu original only 🤦♂️ i really like the cjaracter designs on these bad guys 🤓
I wonder this... Were King Randor and Queen Marlena heart broken when prince Adam/He-Men went into the future and they no longer saw their son. Plus, who took over Randor's throne once Adam left?? Was it Princess Adora... He-Man's twin sister?? If so?? What happened to Hordak and the Horde and to Etheria?? Soooo many unanswered questions left in Prince Adam's absense.
To be fair, the King and Queen and nobody else seemed broken up about Adora's disappearance in the first place. Until Sh Ra started, they spent 0 time or effort looking for Adora or even talking about her.
Yeah they already had it going but it was usually a barbarian vehicle or playset with a futuristic dashboard 🤓and they also went to space indeed i guess this is more future oriented and even more space 🤣
It's actually a pretty good toyline and cartoon. It was just too big a departure at the time from the vintage series. As a little side adventure for a year it's really interesting.
another fun episode! great work, its funny how the used the new he-man sculptures for the demolition man toys. you can still see the H on the belt of those toys lool.
I actually ran into some of these figures two weeks ago-sort of. A toy shop had opened locally, mainly full of older figures. Among them were a few pegs of carded Demolition Man action figures, many of which were repainted/repurposed New Adventures figures. I don't recall any official masters stuff outside a few figures from the Four Horsemen era, alas.
Great video! Very informative! I wish the cartoon had kept the laser light sword (Lightsaber Power Sword) of the toys and mini comics. It's so much cooler than the rather plain sword we see in the show.
I don’t get why they did characterbuild for 17 minutes of the inhabitants 🤦♂️ its so slow at the end heman saves the day and its pretty cool but yeah that first episode isn’t fun to get into it. Thanks for watching
Just watching some episodes now. What were they thinking. The skeletor is plain horrible and...plain. And those annoying comic relief characters. It really is as bad as the legends says. But toys were actually good. Still have my skeletor (looks way better than cartoon beaver face)
I checked it out after reading your comment, and think you were being overly hard on it. It had plenty of action, and I liked this version of skeletor. He was pretty goofy, but seemed more cunning than the generally incompetent Filmation version. I liked his exchange with the guard; "Stop breathing!". I agree that the time machine inventors were totally awful. Thankfully they were barely featured. As a standalone series I think it would have been fine. Where it fails is as a continuation of the He-man saga. If they hadn't changed his look so drastically, it might have worked better.
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THE FILM. One of my favourites I also think He-Ro works better as the son of He-Man As for this line... I think the character designs were dreadful. Absolutely nothing compared the characters of MOTU and POP. I need to rewatch the show as you made it sound better than I remember
I bought the He-Man and Skeletor 2-pack, plus Optikk and Artilla, but honestly, I wasn't nearly as interested. I didn't get to see the show that much either, but when I did, I was convinced that "Weird Al" Yankovic was the voice of Hoove, but I was wrong.
I have the DVD collection of the first half of the series, but I haven't opened it yet. I was just homeless for eight years after a job in Florida didn't work out, and finally moved out of storage (rent on an apartment is insane compared to rent on storage--I had to move back to NYC because I was borrowing the vehicle from my employer). I have serious back and leg problems and need surgery on my arm, so unpacking will be very slow, and the boxes are so stacked that I don't know how I'm going to get at anything.
The toys were great but these competed with gi joe so walking the toy aisle choose .. Cobra vehicle or joe figure included Orrr heman vehicle or skelly no fig?
It's a shame that Crita never saw release in this line. I think her 90s action figure would've used the design she received toward the end of the animated He-Man series/would've been reminiscent of the concept artwork seen here toward the end of your video. Opposite of Mara, she would've looked great. In the cartoon, Optikk received a costume upgrade as well that we unfortunately never saw in figure form. Though Crita was released eventually many years later in the Classics line, the figure that was released used her initial cartoon design, which arguably didn't translate into the best action figure. Maybe we'll see her released in the Queen Crita of the Gleanons battle gear some day... On a side note, had the He-Man line continued, sometimes I wonder what characters would've been produced. I have a feeling we would've seen the likes of Mara, Crita, an upgrade of Kayo and Optikk, as well as the Gleanons and Galactimytes. For a new play set, perhaps the battle arena seen in the concept artwork? I digress! Great video. I always loved this toy line, though drastically different from the original run. Had Mattel waited a little longer to reintroduce He-Man, I have a feeling that the line would've been more successful. However, we did receive a remarkable amount of toys from this line during the time of its production. Star Trek: The Next Generation was a big hit and was released a few years previous, so I assume that was a factor also in moving swiftly to release new product. In hindsight, a few Next Generation characters remind me of some of characters from this toy line (Deanna Troi = Mara, Geordi La Forge = Vizar, Commander Riker = Darius).
Ed's Retro Geek Out you mean the one video I skipped over to get to this one because I love ALL He-Man? That one? 😉 Thank you dude! Keep up the great work!
This was such a DELIGHTFUL failure!! I know that sounds mean......but WOW was it bad!! The toys however, had some really cool features, especially the connectivity
I could be mistaken, but I thought Skeleteen was the son of Evil-Lyn and Skeletor? Or was it initially planned to be Skeletor and Shadow Weaver before it was reworked for the MotU Classics continuity?
@EdsRetroGeekOut It's definitely a messy continuity... there is He-Ro of Preternia and He-Ro, son of He-Man, who is sometimes Adam and Teela's biological son, and sometimes he is their adopted son with his real parents being Adora and SeaHawk. It's hard to keep track of 😅
The failure of this particular toy line was swapping the figures down to the "Star Wars" & "GI Joe" scale and would probably have sold better if they stuck to tradition and made them compatible with the vintage 80's line.
This line has never received the love it deserves. Most of the human designs are meh but the majority of the Space Mutants and even the Skeletor variations are great.
Cool a new video!!!!12:32min of fun!!! in France i have friend's music band who exatly called " master de l'univer "you can lisen it on sound cloud...(it's a hiphop/punk rock music)
I can't figure out if I like or hate this line I had almost all the figures at one point even got a video of them sold them and now I'm trying to collect them again but don't know if I want to collect them
In retrospect, If they released the Thunder Punch He Man in the first place and included Teela Man At Arms Battle Cat Orko Beast Man Evil Lyn Merman and Panthor it would’ve done well
In my country- Czech Republic they never aired the show but I knew some episodes from the German channels. They sell the toys here though. I remember that I always seen he-man character as a super boring toy but Skeletor and mutants - loved them. The show is really bad though, sad that 200x ended so soon, it was a great show in comparison but the toys - nah, weird stylization. Its quite funny - New Adventures - bad cartoon great figures. 200x great cartoon - weird figures.
You cannot tell me that TNAOHM Skeletor wasn't a wonderful toy, he has a giant glow in the dark skull on his whole torso! A major upgrade Edit: Battle Blade Skeletor
I still remember being shocked to see He-Man with a ponytail & pants and Skeletor with eyes!
I still have that Power Sword and a story tape!
Awesome 🤩
I cannot tell you how much this made my day! I remember the toy line but didn't see the cartoon until TH-cam. I love all things MOTU 💜💙💜
Thanks so much Brett 🤓
I know it gets a lot of hate, but I love this toy line! I'm just a few figures and a playset away from completing it!
Awesome I wish I had started looking out for it more 🤓
My little brother had the Starship Eternia, He-Man and Skeletor. That ship was ACE.
The eternia ship was nicely done 🤓
Cannot wait for the follow-up episode you seemed to promise, dedicated to the more modern sculpture of MOTU figures. The previous line had a bird man, a bee man, a robot man... The only normal humans among the Heroic Warriors I recall were He-Man and his variations, Man-At-Arms, King Randor, Fisto and Clamp Champ.
I like the evil mutants look but on the good side too many human characters
Completely agree. I remember when the toyline came out I had no interest in buying the good guys, but some of the mutants were fun, especially Optikk.
Son of Skeletor? You mean someone got busy with that dude? Ahh who am I to talk. I'm a Xenomorph with some human girlfriends... Heh-heh!
🤣
I was just a huge He Man fan as a kid but somehow completed missed this series. I never even knew it existed until years later when it was already forgotten.
This looked like a really cool toy line. Unfortunately, I was long past playing with toys when these released. At least I get an awesome history lesson from you Ed!

I had them. Sadly I was (mostly) too young for the original series, this one was cool but it barely lasted.
.......the Christmas I got these toys is really the only Christmas I can remember from my childhood....an amazing memory
Awesome 🤓
Me and my bro both had the He-man figure and the power sword. The figures broke at the knees very quickly, but the swords lasted a very long time and through some very rough and painful sword fights. We also listened to the cassette tape a LOT. Multiple times a day. Drove my parents mad.
Aw yeah 😁🤘🚀
This toyline was my childhood and my first action figurers that I got (Brakk and Calamarr).
Calamar such a cool toy 😍
I was too young to experience the original MOTU, but I did get some from yard sales or thrift shops. I wasn't aware of the space He Man as I was all about TMNT and GI Joe!
Turtle power! 🥳
I had the Doomcopter vehicle from the New Adventures of He-Man line, which was re-used from the Defenders of the Earth toy line.
thumbs up on this toy history episode ed! i can remember back in 2007 seein the dvd season in walmart

Optikk is great! He was my first MOTU Classics figure back in NYC Comic Con.
Awesome 🤠
I was 8 years old when that happened.I knew it was time to grow up.
😅 ok
7:32 Shinji Aramaki.. He directed the CG Appleseed movies.. and the latest Ghost In The Shell series I believe.
Awesome 🤓
Thanks for this great timing I recently raided my parents loft and found a bunch of these he man in space toys
That Spaceship Eternia playset looks like it would be pretty sweet.
I owned it but sold it 🤦♂️ such a cool playset it was really well made 🤓

Great job Ed! Love these types of videos and you knocked it out the park!
Thanks 🤓

Wow, only ever knew of the first wave of new adventures toys.
They had a couple and some pretty awesome sculpts
I grew up with classic motu, but I loved new adventurers as well

For some reason I thought the original MOTU (1983-1985) was already set in space. Maybe it's because of all the vehicles or something.
Yeah they already had it going but it was usually a barbarian vehicle or playset with a futuristic dashboard 🤓and they also went to space indeed i guess this is more future oriented and even more space 🤣
It was! Queen Marlena was an astronaut from Earth who crashed on Eternia.
I'm so glad we got Darius and Mara in Classics.
K O looks like captain powers head and the arms tank ellis from captain power line.
He-Ro. lmao...
man, i love your channel.

I’m honestly surprised we didn’t get Zodac in this line. Seriously it makes too much sense to have a Zodac here
Indeed he would have been a cool connection between the 2 cartoona
Omg Skeletor and Shadow Weaver had a baby
Optikk is by far my favorite of the line
