When I first heard this and heard the names they dropped I was shook. How many American rappers out right now do you know that talk about Pete rock and cl smooth, Rakim or KRS-ONE?? You have to dig deep in the crates for people like that, especially being from the other side of the planet🤣 What sets them apart from these kpop rappers and even some of these American rappers is that they truly respect the pioneers of hip hop and they respect hip hop by writing their own lyrics. Even when they switched up their look and sound, the rapping was still real and genuine.

I don't agree with your statement, Asia is pretty much oblivious about Hip-Hop more than the Western Countries, in fact some don't even know that Hip-Hop is a genre of music and youngsters these days would think Hip-hop as a type of Dance rather than a genre of music.
Which means, even asking who are the pioneers of Hip-Hop is far difficult for even the older generation to answer not alone younger generation, cause that stuff aren't even taught in School not even in music class.
And some Hip-Hop groups in Korea don't even know the origins of Hip-Hop cause they never bothered to look it up, and including the fact that Korea, Japan, China are one of the most racist countries in Asia, and considering the fact that Hip-Hop is originally originated from Black Culture, and darker skinned people are deeply frowned upon, you have no idea how deep and impactful the lines the rap line just contributed.
They don't give a d*MN about racism, it didn't even matter to them if the people they looked up to doesn't even have the same language or race as them, they just genuinely love music and Hip-Hop, and that's what makes them different.
What's more amazing is that they also wouldn't hesitate to give respect or mention the artist that inspired them into their songs,
in fact you can even see the pictures of those artist being put in the screen in their solo concert like J-Hope's solo concert.
Which is why a lot of Hip-Hop lovers respect and are fond of BTS cause they are genuine lovers of Hip-Hop and they are artists worth respecting.

And I'm telling you now, that's only BTS
They are the only group that gives honor to Hip-Hop culture, while the rest of K-pop industry don't know and even most of the hip-hop groups in Korea don't do that.
Also, BTS is the only Kpop group that makes the listeners interested and appreciate Hip-Hop culture.
Let me rephrase that, they're the only groups out there that opens the door not just to music itself but just everything.
They'll literally just take you everywhere.
Thanks to BTS, you'll get to know some deep philosophy, human psychology, Korea's music history, Greek mythology, Japan and Korea's WW2 History, Anime, Korea's messed up Society and School System, Hip-Hop Culture, Korea's corrupt government and politicians, Kpop industry dark sides, Western Music Industry Dark Sides, BTS music history, etc.
But not just that, BTS will also open the door of how to love yourself cause that's their priority. Their company logo means "Music for healing" so basically they write songs about mental, social, and health issues. (Which is quite taboo topic in their country due for being conservative)
They also writes songs about women empowerment, which doesn't seem much however it's actually such a bold move considering how misogynistic their country is.
They all have lots of life hacks too. Lol.

Thanks for reacting to this! Our rappers are really unique in the k-industry. They really know and respect their crafts. They all come from underground hip hop scenes--RM & Suga as rappers, j-hope as a dancer--and so they grew up with the music. Most rappers in the idol scene don't write their stuff or come up with their flows but RM, Suga, and j-hope have never sang a Korean bar they didn't pen (some of their Japanese and English lyrics are written by others). They just have so much respect for the art and history of rap and hip hop and it really shows.

I don’t know why this part wasn’t translated but here’s the rest of the lyrics from the chorus:
I’ll be down for your rap
I’ll be down for your rhythm
    여전히 내 심장을 뛰게 해
It still makes my heart beat
    내가 진짜 나이고 싶게 해
It makes me be my true self
    Yeah I love this

Yes thanks for adding the translation, I was wondering why is missing.. Especially since it's such a great yet simple way to describe hip-hop. That exactly how I felt when I started listening to it. (not a rapper, not a musician, just a music lover)

I love rap/hip hop but don't really want to see the grill full of diamonds, bad language with no message, the girls wearing nothing, flashing the cash. BTS can bring the lyrics, the musicianship and the skill with none of that superficial crap. I actually got into BTS through their rap first and you can tell from their tracks they REALLY love it. They are honestly a breath of fresh air.💜

The biggest thing we try to explain to new reactors to BTS is they aren’t a boy and they are truly in love with music and especially deeply love and respect the history of hip hop which they study. They say things that ring truly. This song was so early in their careers and showed their early respect. And yes everyone is included they always say it’s about the respect/love the 7 have for each other although especially early on the 3 rappers were the musical core of the team as the other 4 learned their own flavors and how to write and produce music as well.

if u like social critism song, i recommended one of their predebut school "BTS- school of tears MV with eng lyrics". They use kendrick lamar's beat on this song (cover) but they write their own lyrics. For people who have experience get bullied at school or being bystander can related with this song. The other song is BTS - Bapsae (it didnt have MV), and pls watch the explanation from DKDKTV channel since they use a lot of korean analogy and metaphor for this song. It's about social critism n social phenomenon about young generation vs old generation, that all people around the world can related. thank you ^___^

I am enjoying your BTS journey. Thank you for being so open minded and respectful to them and their music. As a 56 yr old US deadhead I was never much into rap music - but listening to BTS changed that and helped me open my eyes to music I would have otherwise missed. I love how unapologetic they are about the music that inspires them. You made a comment about Korean and other countries influenced by American hip-hop to be more respectful about it's roots and I agree. BTS is a rare band that is so much better live because you can see and feel their raw emotions in what they sing by their expressions and the way they move. I highly recommend you watching a live version of this song (th-cam.com/video/a_3KCRAYAFQ/w-d-xo.html) - not only can you see their own conviction in their words, but also the audience response which shows how genuine it all is. Keep up the great reactions ty!

it's so amazing that not just the 3 rappers love /know and respect hiphop the 4 vocalists know so well too bts went to America to learn more about hip hop in 2014 (America hustle life) and made a great album and it's "dark &wild" iconic album of Bts
even after 9 years of trying many different genres you can find the influence still in them

BTS was unique or more unique at the time, because they weren’t a k-pop group that have members that rap in it. BTS was specifically a hop-hop idol group. They’re rooted in hip-hop. The music critic/musicologist knew about this group being started back in the day and was really intrigued by this concept them being actually being hip-hop idol group. Not just regular k-pop idols. I always appreciate give props to where props are due and work on their craft because they are music lovers. They’re great.

It's unfortunate that rap in the US became 'gangsta' a while back and you had to be 'hard' or 'street' to be taken seriously. Which is too bad. BTS proves that you can be skilled, authentic and passionate and don't have to be in that gangsta lane to put out great music.

  • @caseytakanashi1397

ARMYs are mostly music fans first since a lot of us were the gp. The main genre that I listen to is rock plus a mix of everything else. Rock music just speaks to my soul more. In BTS I saw their rebel punk spirit. Which is why BTS actually have a subset of ARMYs that are rock or metal fans. BTS really brings everyone together doesn't matter the genre. They are definitely better people than me, they don't discriminate whatever the genre. Its still hard for me to appreciate pop music generally as for years to me pop music is kinda generic and very commercial and I've always prefer to check out not so popular artists as I've always thought that popular artists already have their fans..they don't need my support. I can't believe years later..I'm deep in the trenches fighting for BTS to be heard. BTS, as how the gp perceives them to be a pop act. But in BTS' music and lyrics I felt that raw, grit and sincere passion for music which makes me open to even their pop songs...or ballads. The depth that their music hold is very very satisfying for me personally to sink into. Just a huge treasure trove of good conscious music. Not only sounding good to my ears but healing for my soul as well. Worth my money buying their music.

A quick confection.. When rap first got my attention was early 90s, 2Pac.. Was not even a teenager, just starting to understand English, but it was like.. My first love, and when he died, got killed.. Had little info, but I was broken and struggling to understand how somebody that thought like that, a man that wrote Brenda's got a baby... How was he in the mix of all that?... That might have been my first life lesson...

Agree 100 percent, main steam music in America is lacking big time. I like rap, but I haven’t listened to it in so long because what’s out now is trash. Then some people have the nerve to say to try and criticize others for appreciating the true Hiphop culture an paying respect to it. Just because they don’t have the same skin color, they are just as ignorant as the ones they listen to. Someone else mentioned this same thing in another reaction to this song. He mentioned how these guys are paying respect to the rappers they grew up listening to and who influenced them. Then all these other young “rappers” trashing those same ones, saying they are better than them.
