  • In this video, Matt Evenson, a research biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, illustrates two methods to set line for burbot through the ice. Burbot are a highly sought-after sport fish in Alaska, and they make excellent table fare. Matt shows the way to set using the strong line method and the pole set method, and details the specific regulations for this unique fishery. Be sure to also watch the companion video, How to Clean a Burbot. For more information about fishing for burbot see: www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?.... ©ADF&G

I like your Y stick of Bebb Willow. I have been carving walking sticks for many years.
I think Burbot tastes like haddock. I believe they're both in the cod family.

Nice video. Are the small ones worth cleaning? I understand if they swallow the hook and are going to die anyways you might as well fillet them.

generally we release the small ones unless they swallow that hook, then they get kept. but way too much effort to fillet for the meat you get.

Why don't you bleed the burbot down here in Alberta we just cut the tail off just the last bit and they bleed completely out then you have nice white meat left

The Baffin boots depends I’ve had a few pair over the years but there so warm your feet sweat and then they freeze if you don’t dry them out but I’ve always wore bunny boots
