    I love calm and kind explanations:) I am planning winter overnight backpack hiking. Can you give some good insulation tips in the night?

      those emergency blankets you can buy help to keep you warmer if you lay one of those down under your sleep sytem. There are dedicated products for this too if you want to spend more money

    Solid review David!
    I almost got the same pack (in black). Already had a day pack by Osprey. Unfortunately the weight and the amount of pocket were the reason why I chose another pack. Cannot go wrong with Osprey,great packs and great warranty!

      I'm going to be trying out an ultralight bag soon, love this bag but for power hiking or trail running something lighter might work well so stay tuned for that. For winter and rain though this will still be my go to bag.

      My dry weight for my section hike of the VIT from Victoria to lake Cowichan was 13lbs 7onces. It made such a difference...
      I hike with the Zpacks archaul 👌

    I have had one of these for a few years now. I bought it for the back opening like a dedicated camera backpack but with much more comfort! I've never actually used it without the Pacsaf camera insert in it tbh! I am currently looking from something bigger for camping though. Nice review btw.

      I like it, a bit small for anything more than 1 night espcially if I have a lot of camera gear. For a day pack its perfect.

    Isn’t there a emergency whistle on the sternum strap? Never seen a touring backpack without one integrated

    Wow, what nice backpack, wish i could have one too, no osprey in the Philippines, my first hiking bag is just northface I've got last 2017,

    Can you do a video showing how you secure your snowshoes to this bag?

    Can you elaborate on those flashes and bangers you carry? I'm only in black bear country, not grizzly so we don't have to worry as much about bear aggression but am planning on some trips to brown bear country. In other videos you mention bear spray so it may be helpful to have a video on what you carry and when. Thanks.

    • @IdRatherBeHiking
      @IdRatherBeHiking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ya the are called bear bangers, they come with a bang or a flash depending which one you load. Always fire it directly above you and not at the bear. If it detonates behind the bear.. yogi will come running towards you. I'm shocked I don't see these at all on amazon. Found it here: www.gear-up.com/products/tru-flare-bear-banger-centre-fire

      The only thing effective against brown bears is big heavy bullets.. 44 mag or larger.. plan on needing 10 shots at least

    Is this the Large size?

    • @IdRatherBeHiking
      @IdRatherBeHiking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the 42 liter the biggest one, as for back size mine is the smaller one as I can wear both sizes and this one was drastically on sale.

    This bag is purpose built for ski touring. For example, that front pocket is meant to be the 'emergency pocket,' and you would keep only your shovel and probe there to to find immediately when digging for a buried avalanche victim. it's why there is that single red zipper on that pocket. If you're not using it for that, I think your money would be better spent on a bunch of other osprey bags, that all have the features you liked in this bag, and not the ones that you wouldn't use. And fyi, the you shouldn't need to clip the ice axe in, you just have to twist the blade in that small loop, then clip the handle upright and it will hold it just fine

    • @IdRatherBeHiking
      @IdRatherBeHiking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure this is definitely a ski touring bag but I was drawn to it because of the color and features. It works great as an all around bag, I don't worry about it too much if it's raining, snow etc. I'm a little OCD with making sure things don't fall off my bag as such with the ice axe.

      Yeah the ice axe is obviously attached incorrectly in the video, I don't know why he doesn't just admit it.. Making that snarky response instead of just admitting that he was in a rush and sloppy, or didn't know how to use it, hurts his credibility way more than simply making a common mistake.
