Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are funded by their respective, dedicated tax and do not contribute to the deficit at all. Why does no one say it loudly?
Because that would spoil the narrative where they're trying to say that they want to get rid of it for the health of the country's economy.
Because they do not 100% fund those programs. Social Security taxes did fund the program back when it started, when Life Expectancy for White Males was 61, White Females was 65, Black Males was 51 and Black Females was 55. It doesn't fund the program now that Life Expectancy is up around 79 for women and 73 for men.
GOVERNMENT PENSIONS are the REAL threat to the federal deficit. They make up nearly 1/3 of all federal spending. Look up a pie chart on spending. 20 years paying nothing into your government pension and you can retire with more pay than someone who paid into social security for 48 years. It's insane, but not once will you ever hear a politician mention cutting it.

I'm with you on that. Everyone who serves in the house, the senate, and the supreme court justices should have their salaries cut in half. They should have to pay a portion of their health care costs and they lose it when they leave office. Cut their salaries in half of should weed out those who want the power and money versus those who want to serve their constituents. I know this will never happen, but one can still dream.

A reasonable way to handle the debt? Repeal tax cuts for the rich and increase taxes on the rich. Raise the income cap for Medicare to make it solvent. Acknowledge that 25% of our debt occurred during Trump. Also, forgive student debt. We can afford to do it.
They proposed 30% sales tax across the board. How do you think that is going to fly in No Tax states like New Hampshire? - Where most of their voters reside....

@@j7404 Sure I can, during all the funding (during the the pandemic), the government spent (all together) 6.1 trillion when it came to packages and bail-outs. 1.4 trillion was used were used for the people (the stimulus checks). The rest were given out to Corporations and "Business Owner/PPP". Those people were advised to used that money to keep employees on payrolls and keep people employed. That didn't happen.... But you never hear about that.. You don't hear how they used that money to buy back their stocks, or take vacations etc. etc.
It's all wasteful, it's not the government's job to do what the private sector is supposed to.

Did you know the House Republicans are proposing a 'Fair Tax Act’ bill that will impose a flat 30% sales rate on everyone across the bord and eliminate IIRS taxes... which means it would end tax deductions benefits that average middle class workers takes advantage of and would also eliminate capitol gains taxes, estate taxes, payroll taxes that the rich no longer has to pay.
Studies have shown the middle class would end up paying more while the rich pays less…

But raising the debt ceiling isn't paying down debt, it's allowing debt to increase so we can pay for previously authorized spending. If the R's want to reduce the deficit they should do that through annual budget negotiations. They can start by repealing the 2017 tax cuts.
