The fact that you can still kinda hear misto before his mic is turned on goes to show how deticated these singers/dancers are. He didnt stop singing even though his mic was off!
Okay , I've got one requirement for anyone playing Munkustrap , and it's that his legs need to be apart at all times . They are never allowed to touch .

God, that overture is DELICIOUS! When the music alone can stir emotion and get your heart pounding, then the composer's done an astounding job! Definitely one of my favorites.

Briana .H I remember seeing the revival and the theater went completely dark and the overture played i felt this crazy rush of excitement it was the coolest thing ever, I also loved how the show didn’t have a pre show announcement during that performance I went

YES!!! Whenever I get balcony seats (or higher up in the house/further back) for me and friends/family they ask why me I didn't get better seats (aka main level) and I'm like 🙄.

I think I was about 8 when I first saw the show with the 4th National North American Tour (the first North American tour to simplify the staging for the now defunct Growltiger sequence (yes the first 3 actually *DID* have the set for Growltiger come down from the back wall like at the Winter Garden) the 5th National Tour (2001-2012) also had a couple notable firsts, it was the first North American tour that hid the orchestra (5 piece most stops, increasing to 9 in bigger cities) like on Broadway and in '05 added an inflatable version of the set thus making it easier to travel around North America and do shorter engagements, the normal set was still used when they went outside of the US or to Hawaii)

It did in 1982, actually it won 7 including best musical. This revival wasn't up for any nominations as it already had 7. Its practically the same production except for the loss of Gillian Lynn's choreo

The dislikes are from Growltiger, Griddlebone, Billy McCaw, the Rumpus Cat costume, Gillian Lynne's choreo, and the updated Rum Tum Tugger for not making it into the revival.
Fuck the updated Rum Tum Tugger. The old one is 10 times better than the rapping one,.
Sorry... I saw the updated Tugger and cringed the whole way through. I breathed a sigh of utter relief when the old version appeared on stage in the Broadway revival.
Totally agree with you about Billy McCaw though - my favourite song from the original production. It's a shame they cut the whole Growltiger sequence from NYC. At least they retained him for the London revivial.

Edit: I don’t hate the movie, but I do think it takes the magic out of it; The costumes, the make up, the fact that is sang through, is what makes Cats Cats. Plus I think the plot is not “strong” enough for a movie

Mile Fazzini -OMG totally. The film is gross and is going to likely flop. It’s so wrong on sooo many levels . Not to mention it’s uncomfortable to watch . THIS stage show is hypnotic and clever and really effective . STILL. Excessive CGI use and horrible “star” casting has ruined film musicals.
Not in the slightest. The film looks fascinating, and to the dickwads who say that the "film is gross and is going to likely flop," get your crystal ball out of your ass and wait for the film to open before pronouncing it dead in the water. That goes for you, Daniel Raphael. Dumb ass.

I saw a bootleg of a performance in March of this year (US tour) of this number and it looks like they've incorporated a lot of Gillian Lynne's choreography back in.

I actually saw this way back in 2016 for a Girl Scouts trip and it was one of the most interesting Broadway experiences ever!

@@sofiarosanes9511 Gillian Lynne had the chance to develop all the dance numbers over 30 years. Every new production had little or big changes. Every movement meant something and was perfect to the music. Andy his choreography changes (because a lot of the original was still in this production) was not that musical or supported by the music.
I love the adjustments they made tot the show with this revival, the changes seem to make so much sense.

*EDIT: i've seen the US tour cast twice so far and in my second viewing (i wasnt paying so much attention on victoria particularly during this number the first time around) they've seemed to have gone back to the old choreography a LOT more since when this production happened, as in victoria actually doing the old choreography and movements for that part instead of just lying there. interesting, and a welcome change back to the old choreography*
obviously there's factors in the new choregoraphy that i like and am okay with but it's like everytime i watch this i find more gripes with it... (to no major detriment to the revival, overall i love the cast and the production and wish i was able to see it live)
12:35 when that part kicks in, having victoria not rouse and break away from the group/be the only one moving throws me off and annoys me more than it should. and when that piano (?) at 13:00 plays, she's supposed to be like... doing something. preparing for her solo, catching the attention of the audience early while not breaking the 'trance' of the song completely-- she's a core part of it. to have her stay still like that is just an odd choice especially since it makes it so that change in tune has no function or reason.
in my basic musical-watching eyes, of course. im no musician or composer or actor or anything of the sort.

Things can change depending on who's playing what character and tours can change certain aspects as they proceed. I saw differences between my first and second viewing, very minor ones but still differences. It wasn't identical, no.
@@ericmorgan47 i never said the two times were different, only the second time was only different to this bootleg, the first time wasn't. "then they were performing something different" okay, yes, we literally could've settled at that. something changed there, but unlike my first impression, nothing official happened or changed. but yes, victoria did do something different in the naming of cats when i saw it a second time at the kennedy centre. i remarked on it, because i thought it was interesting.

@@bigred8432 as someone who has seen the original production of CATS 27 times, I can tell you that this tour features about 20% of Gillian's Original Choreography. The revival tour didn't edit or replace anything from their revival counterpart, nor did they remove anything. It's the same production that was on Broadway in 2016, physically and visually. Only very minor things such as the set that's used and some of the blocking have been redone due to the smaller set. Which could be why Victoria now does her full solo dance.

Elizabeth Tormey The stage is a pretty good size, especially for broadway actually. Broadway stages have a tendency to be tighter and thinner due to the squeezed nature of NYC itself.

Why does it sound slower than it should? If you watch it at x1.25 it sounds like it’s supposed to (ie like the 1998 version)

The entire production sounds “slower” than it should. In particular the Jellicle songs for Jellicle cats” song sounds so much slower than it should. Perhaps they set the click track a tad bit off or something.
