This is the link for Part 2 about the binding. 😌 th-cam.com/video/2QbRe2MkpaM/w-d-xo.html About the "alternating the pages" trick, I think this comes from Roz Stendahl ( rozwoundup.com ), in an article written on her website or on Cathy Johnson's artistsjournalworkshop.blogspot.fr website. 😊 Thank you Roz! 😃
Following the White Rabbit yes this is the one. I make some of my journals using Coptic stitch but never after they are painted so I was curious how you do this. Especially if you are doing a double page spread.
Formidable !
Salut Anne-Laure! This series is great. I started with your videos on making the Urban Sketching board. I used colorful Duck Tape on my board for some fun color. Came out great! Now I have to make the sketchbook pages! Un grand merci!!
By far the best how to for sketch book making ever viewed. I’ve watched many of them, yet following those instructions did not give me the results I was hoping for. In fact I encountered many of the problems you addressed. But now I understand why and how to avoid them. Also the dividing of the paper to make the different sizes books Is fantastic. Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us.
Brilliant! So glad I watched before making my own for the first time! I never would have folded the pages correctly so that the "right" sides and the "wrong" sides matched in a two-page layout. Bravo!
I admire you organization. A person gets a lot of it from their parents. Hug and thank your parents for the good start. Pat yourself on the back for the further development of the gift.
There is so much great information in this video! i never thought about reversing alternate pages so each 'spread' will have the same finish across the seam. Now I want to make sketchbooks for travel. Thank you!
Salut Anne-Laure!! Thank you for showing how you divide the paper to get all the different sizes. Please, please, please do a video of a flip through of your sketchbooks that you held up for this video - but don’t go too fast, I would love to have a good look at your work - I just love everything about your style - your work is so beautiful...
Salut Magdalena! Merci pour ton sympathique commentaire ! 😀 I am glad you liked the part with the paper dividing. Afterwards, I was wondering if this would be useful or not for you all, as the video seemed a bit long just for the paper preparation. 😅 I am really touched by you enthusiasm about my work! Yes, some sketchbook tours are definitely on my list! 😃🎉 But I have too much ideas 😁 and too much to do !! 😩😅 (and I use too much smileys 🤪😂) So, yes, I am going to work on some not too fast flip through. With a few explanations and close ups, it would seem nice, what do you think?! 😊
I just made my own sketchbook & I love it .I am glad you mentioned about alternating the papers with the correct matching sides because I never would have realized to do that. Thanks so much and I didn't realise how easy it is to tear the paper with the ruler and love the torn look. Thanks so much for sharing I love your channel and your terrific hints.
I am so excited to make my own journals!! I love that you have broken it down to different sizes...you have done all the measuring for us...the part that is so confusing when looking at my full sheet of watercolor paper and wondering where to start. And what a great idea...making a template!! I'm going through chemotherapy and take my watercolor supplies with me during my 7 hour treatment, helps pass the time and puts me in my happy place.. Making a small journal with my own paper (I paint in my lap so there isn't a lot of room, what with my paints, water and paper towels) would be ideal. I'm also going to try to paint some of the projects you have shown in your other videos. I love your seashell, showing how you did your highlights and shading and some of your other fantastic paintings. Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos, tips and hints!! I'll let you know how I make out with my journals. Nell
Hey , this is the very first video I have seen on this channel......There are two things I want to say 1. Your are a cutie pie. And 2. You explained very well😊 and I liked your haircut also
Love, Love, LOVE this! I tell everyone about it whenever the subject of DIY sketchbooks comes up. I've made dozens, even teaching my two granddaughters how to make their own! 💞
Very nice tip about the front and back of the paper being different! I would not have thought of that until it's too late! haha (and maybe not even then. :) Love your videos!
Hi Anne-Laure! I shared some of your sketchbook techniques with my watercolor society. I told them to come find you and about how much I enjoy your videos. I hope this brings you new subscribers!
Thank you for the fantastic video with all these tips. I am looking forward to part two as well as viewing your other videos! It is so kind of you to share!
So glad I found your channel. You are a great instructor and your smile is very contagious . Thank you for these Pro Tips. My favorite was that we need to alternate the pages. Thank you!
Dena, I am so glad too and really happy you found and liked the channel! :D Thank you so much for your compliments about me and my work and your feedback on the video!! How did you find me, by the way?! With the TH-cam suggestions? :) Indeed, it's not so easy to make people found the channel so, just to say, ;) if you feel like sharing it with your friends or on social media, feel free to do so, ha ha ! :p ;)
Thank you so much for sharing how you make your sketch book! Can you please, please show how you made your cover as well! Thank you so much! Love your videos!
Thanks Luisa for these compliments!! 😊 Funnily, I was wondering if some people could dislike my outfit because of the short sleeves sweater... ;) I am happy you liked it, along with the video !! :)
I just made myself a sketchbook with your help! Thanks so much for sharing this stuff with us. Is it possible to make a cover for the sketchbook later on? And if yes would you show it to us? Thanks, have a great weekend Viv.
Oh il y a des photos de Julie derrière :) Je viens ici suite à ton post, et oui on s'en fiche de l'accent, ton dynamisme et tes propos suffisent ! A très vite ici D.
I just made my first sketchbook following this tutorial and i love it! Thank you for this clear and detailed instructions... very helpful. I have a question about paper, I used the FABRIANO Artistico paper for the one I made but I am wondering about the FABRIANO "Disegno 5" aquarel paper - have you tried that one and do you like that one less/more or equal to the Artistico paper? Thank you!
Thank you! I agree that making your own journals is the best. I have used Fabriano soft press 140 lb paper in previous journals. I have heard that Fabriano changed their paper making process and artists are not as happy with it anymore. But I have not gotten it lately to try it myself. Do you have any information on that? I always enjoy your videos.
Yeah, handmade journals rock!! 😝 I didn't heard about the paper change. Is it recent?! I still have to start using the last packs I bought at the end of last year (maybe in October or November ?!) so I hope it will be the same!... Thanks for your compliments about the videos Faypaints! 😘
Thank you, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. The last couple of vid's I've watched to hear you I must put the volume up full blast which is fine but when you play music or ring a bell it's a full volume. Is it just me or do others have this issue?
Hi Steph, Thank you very much for your feedback. ☺️ I think balancing the sounds is one of the trickiest thing to do. I tried to improve along the way but maybe if you watch the older videos, there are some issues with it (plus I had some problems with the microphone, sometimes the sound is only on one side!! 😭). Even for my newer video, I am never so sure... 😳 I try to lower the music level and I always watch the video with headphones to try to figure out how to balance the sound but I am sure it's still far from perfect. 😬 😅 Thanks for your indulgence! Your feedback is always welcome. 😌
@@FollowingtheWhiteRabbit I have, you just fold each side several times and then you tear it easily, I've done it with 300gsm. The. You cut the cover and back to the size of whatever you cut before, just simplify I guess I'm terrible bad with measuring,

Explaining a confusing method in a second language...I'm impressed! 👏🏼 Great job!
franchement trop bien!!! merci 💖 Tes videos me manquent, j'espere que tu vas bien!

Thank you for this. The paper sides for signatures was most helpful
Brilliant! So glad I watched before making my own for the first time! I never would have folded the pages correctly so that the "right" sides and the "wrong" sides matched in a two-page layout. Bravo!
Hiding the measuring imperfections with torn edges is brilliant. Thank you for that pro tip!

Oh I missed that about the sides of the paper and had to go back to watch again the ending where she shows that

Thanks for your comment, Eileen, I am glad the template tip can be useful for your next sketchbook making sessions. 😊
Great information...especially about alternating the pages to get matching surfaces!!! Really helpful! Thank you!
Thank you Corikay, yes this tip is not often highlighted. 😌

Very useful tip about folding alternate sheets ...Inshall definitely need to mark the sheet before I tear!
Anne, yeah, marking can be a good idea, especially for the first time!! 😅 I am glad the video was useful, even without the binding.... yet!!!! 😛😉
Thankyou..look forward to part 2.. the binding......
Yeah, I try to work on it quickly, promise!! 😊

Haha, thank you Butter Toast!! 😛😋😁

There is no sound on this video or the second video about sketchbook binding
Excuse my ignorance, instead of marking could you just fold and fold and fold to whichever size you want and then cut?
Hi Claudia! Yes, in theory you could but because watercolor paper is quite thick, it’s not so easy to fold that way. ☺️
