*mega gasp* BLASPHEMY!!!! J/k, j/k, we've all got opinions. I think the reason he is still in is because he can perform- that is his strong point. Although he can have really wobbly vocals, his performances are always strong and convincing. But, he can sing when he gets a song in his range (and from the clips ive heared, he is very good at singing the Joseph songs too- maybe because he memorised the score when he was ten 0_o)
Lewis is a tenor too apparently, and did you hear his cat impression in Under Pressure? Even Lee was having problems. None of these boys can sing high (except MAYBE Keith), but whenever Ben misses the notes he gets beaten for it. The fact that he gave it a go and didnt back down is admirable and he was robbed last week. Bens duet with Keith was a diamond gem!!
this song is a *****...i know, im orced to play it on the clarinet (i know, not the same as singing, but its still tough)- your jumping around over and between the breaks and throat notes...such a challenging piece. Ben did the best he could but MY WORD can he perform, even when singing on edge!!!
yes this song was harder- even an animated green dancing frog could sing Lee's song (oh, and sing it BETTER then Lee)! Roy Oribisons songs have hardly been touched, especially this one due to the ranges in it- the high note is ridiculous, even i cant sing it!! O_o
this was a hard song and he gave it his best shot, ben is deffinatly talented and will go far! he missed a few notes but what would you expect with such a song like that i mean really? he is still good :) keith was my fav!
did anyone notice before his VT went up, Ben looked as though he wanted to run out of the studio and never return? He was so nervous, bless him- i think he knew he wouldnt be able to pull it off on the live show.
anyway, we all know the programme is rigged for Connie-, whoops, i mean LEE- to win. Give Lee songs to suit his voice, and let everyone else suffer with the wrong 'uns (Daniel, Craig, Ben, Lewis, Keith...)
omg i love him sooo much. he really deserves to be joseph. he performs amazingly everytime, and although he couldnt hit some of the tricky notes in this song, lee's was just boring. at least in this one everyone was really feeling the song because of the way he performed it! he's a true talant, and i would only want him as joseph, not lee; i wouldnt go and watch him in the west end if he won! VOTE BEN FOR JOSEPH. love him xxxxx
You could see that Ben was welling up, and was about to cry right at the end of the song. I had the Kleenex on standby and belive me I needed em! Even when I watch the clip on TH-cam now, I start sniffing and my eyes start to run! I guess I am a massive softy, but never mind. Like mascarawand29 said: "Come on Ben,you can make the final!" GO BEN!!!!! "HIT EM HIGH AND HIT EM LOW, WE WANT BEN AS OUR NEXCT JOE"!!!!!!!
i thought he deserved to go that week. his falsetoo when singing the high 'crying' part was so off. i think he's a tenor and i would expect a tenor's falsetto to be much better than that. a lot of pitch problems in all parts of the song. very good stage presence tho and nice voice. just need to work on intonation
i also thought he did amazing! i loved this song, really got into my head, and although the high notes were hard, he pulled it off really well. the performance was amazing, and he really acted it well. thats why when vocally he has a great song which suits his voice he is AMAZING. love him loads. backing him all the way. BEN TO WIN! xxxxxx
Ben wasn't the best singer in the competition, but this is a really hard song to sing, and he sang it well. I don't think it's one of those performances that you can just listen to, because his acting added so much into it. The audio alone just doesn't have the same impact.
Much of the problem with this song is lack of support on Ben's part. I think he can reach the notes, but he just has not learned how to support them so they do not sound weak and flat. He could have really shown with this song, but instead this was pretty bad.
bet any of the boys would have struggled with this - ben did better than I thought- Doesn't take away the fact he has talent in spades , look at the group performances - stood out in every one , least next week he will get a song in his register
I don't know, Daniel has a pretty amazing range, and a really good falsetto, he just didn't get a chance to show it off in the show. He's more experienced than Ben, though. Ben did well, considering he was only 18 at the time.
On the BBC Joseph website ALW said that he wasn't sure if even the people who'd played Joseph might have been able to sing this. it's a really hard song. I don't think I could reach those notes, and I'm a girl!
Nah don't think it's a lisp with Lee but as Zoe said he tends to do strange things with his jaw!?Watch when Ben comes to the end of a line and the lyric has an 's' in the last word he will avoid it altogether or slur.
Oops spelling mistake there, I meant to say: GO BEN!!!!! "HIT EM HIGH AND HIT EM LOW, WE WANT BEN AS OUR NEXT JOE"!!!!!!! SHOW EM HOW IT'S DONE BEN!!! YOU CAN WIN THIS, SO GO BEN! WE ALL WANT YOU TO WIN!
I bet the poor lad is dreading singing Close Every Door with the lines 'close all the windows and shut out the light'with his speech impediment has ALW thought about that 8 times weekly?!?
I thought that was a pretty damn good performance actually. I mean yes, the high bits were obviously uncomfortable, but for the entire rest of the song he was very good.
yeah i agree ljac0310, there are way better josephs and people like Craig and Seamus should have stayed! They had a lot more talent than Ben. Ben should go! KEITH TO WIN!
This is such a powerful song. I was in the audience on Saturday and I even made me cry. Ben has a very powerful voice, come on Ben!!!! You can be the next Joseph!!!!
Well, that was a tough song. He did a better than average job, but had several flat notes and was very inconsistent in his upper register. It was a bt over-acted too.

n i love it wen hes hits that note at the end cuz he wuz worried all week bout it n he hit it perfectly n it so shown his sweet n vunerable side!
bet any of the boys would have struggled with this - ben did better than I thought- Doesn't take away the fact he has talent in spades , look at the group performances - stood out in every one , least next week he will get a song in his register

Aww he's amazing, I like him singing this song. I don't care if he missed a few (extremely impossible) notes, it still sounded really good to me.
*snort* Cry~y~y~ing... poor Ben, can't hit the right notes. But I agree with others - he's got a gret stage presence, and I'm sure he'll go far.
I thought he was really good, I love his voice. He should not have been in sing off. Go on ben, you can make it to the final!
I notice there wasn't a peep from the audience . were they mesmerised as I was - even with the flat notes
Ben's dirty dancing videos are up form Kew Gradens.....search under Ben Ellius and One Voices videos
Eeveryone at college is cheering ben on! COME ON BEN!!!! from the staff and everyone at College!!!
Too right, Ben is very brave, to attempt all the high notes and he did them so so well! GO BEN!!!

I Think Ben Did Really Good In This Song, Because It Is Quite A Hard Song To Sing!
x

im orced to play it? soz about my typing! I meant forced. >_
typo error falsetto*. also look at ALW mouthing the words at 2:05 haha.
its well sexy n i think it wuz the best slow song he sang!
Thats why he couldn't be Joseph- great at fast songs though
hes alright but honestly no one beats Donny Osmond
he's from my hometown, he's pretty good
Erm...Lee's the one who has a lisp
