RIP buddy, gone but never forgotten. X

one of the best things about 50 years old , is the fact that i lived my teenage years in the 80's that is priceless and i am grateful !!!
Merci
I listen to mike music all the time, my favorite mike album is Amarok

:)
I sat in the kitchen in the 80's as a kid, my headphones on, waiting for that guitar solo. It sent shivers down my spine and still does. Amazing 👏! What a song, just perfect.
I was just thinking while watching the previous video of this song how much I always liked it and that first solo, the one without distortion. So much to like about this song and I never really knew who it was until stumbling across Maggie's channel just now with a 2023 live version.
yeah. it's the guitar solo...
similar story (born 1970) in the early 80s i remember with the family being in some department store and i heard this title only faint out of the background easy listening "PA system" of the shopping center, and it caught me, i tried to filter out any other sound - for years did not know who it was but always greatly enjoyed the song and still do. Yet up to date i do not know what the lyrics actually mean (English is not my native language but there are so many other songs i fully understand, only here the lyrics give riddles) but never mind it's a beautiful title.
Sounds like me and Mr. Bigs every single song.
Maggies voice is just awesome too!
The long hot summer of 1983 & being 14 years old. A lot of water under the bridge now, but some lovely memories RIP Mum, Dad & Nan
Maggie's voice makes this song one of my immortal favorites.
You should listen to her song: Everytime we touch.
@@ruantengyi Thanks! I'll be doing that now.
Maggie played with Cado Bell in the early 70s and they were brilliant; they played the Glasgow scene, especially the places of further education. He voice is phenominal; a huge range and as pure as water.

This is so very true. There was so much love back then, I’m not talking about romantic love, more of love and respect between all people. It’s been lost.
Words don't do justice for how good this song is. So unique, the haunting feel to it sounds like nothing else. Perfect vocals from Maggie Reilly and lyrics that Bernie Taupin would be proud of. 100% a timeless classic that you never forget

One of those songs once heard never forgotten. Also the guitar playing is sublime. Time to dig out Tubular Bells 🔔again.
And it sounds so fresh. It's incredible. I could swear this song was from the 90's or early 2000's.
Tubular Bells has 49, a master piece too.
@@projetor.m.2353 yeah, it has the 90s vibes all over it. I think OP mistook the 9 for 8 in his / her 1983 comment, but I'm too lazy to check. But it definitely sounds and looks like the 90s :)

Everyone's praising Maggie's singing, and rightfully so, but my god, can we talk about that guitar solo for a second? I could listen to it for hours.
Hank B. Marvin. Genius. Happy New Year. 😊
Mike Oldfield is very talented with the number of different instruments he can play, as well as great composing. My first introduction to him was when he recorded the updated theme music for Blue Peter. I was amazed that he played all the different parts himself, then the recordings were mixed together - very unusual in those days.
@@carolynwoodman1734 I don't think Hank Marvin played on this, great guitarist though he is. I believe Mike Oldfield plays all the main instrumentals on his recordings, although the second guitarist in the video was apprently being mimed by one of his touring musicians.

This is a proof that music CAN NOT be categorised! Pure music is not pop, not rock, not classic. It's music!
Well said
Music CAN be and IS categorised. In musicology. And music can be broken down into its constituent elements and analysed. "Pure music is music" is meaningless. But I can see what you're trying to say.
@@kinorspielmann4649 Great music most people can understand without others explaining i am sure.
@@kinorspielmann4649 As another musicologist i can confirm your statement. Its definitly popular music. It has sing songwritters arrangements, but it is more complex in way of harmony and melody. so i would say, it is pop song with huge influnece of prog rock music. Prog pop maybe? :D
@@kinorspielmann4649 Sigh, the art of deconstruction leads to destruction. Not that the process is devoid of value, but it has little to do with the art.

Does anyone else love the drums on this song? Played with so much passion.
Simon Phillips plays on the whole Crises album. Love his drumming on Foreign Affair in particular. Ironically the guy in the video isn't Simon, it's Mike's touring drummer Pierre Moerlen.
