  • Cleaning - Sorting - Shelving - Vintage Pan Paperbacks - I Love This Hobby!
    In this video we go through the entire process of cleaning an entire box of vintage 1950's Pan paperbacks from my recent mega haul. We unbox, numerically sort, clean, repair and generally make good the books. We then go to the main collection and compare with my existing copies side by side, selecting these best ones as we go. It's a VERY satisfying process! I certainly hope you enjoy it.

    Hi Jules. Brad from the U.S. Interesting video although I don't typically collect PAN; you just don't see them in the Midwest. It looks like you don't bag any of your books. Any reason why you don't? I thought it was also intriguing that you made a comment about some copies that were faded and you thought they might be a printing problem. I have a complete set of American Ace D Series (603 books) and like you have acquired multiples of some copies over the years. Every copy of D9, D10, D11 and D12 that I have ever seen has what appears to be sunfade. I now believe this was a production issue since what are the odds? While I don't know for certain, paperback publishers often batched printing copies so if there was an ink problem for one there would be an ink problem for all in a given batch. Anyhow, enjoy video, happy collecting!

      Hi Brad, my absolute, most expensive, rarest paperbacks are bagged, but your right, I don't bag much. I like to carefully read these as well and I prefer the eye appeal of unbagged books.
      It's only when you get multiple copies of vintage paperbacks together that you spot recurring traits which probably happened at the time of printing. There are some early Pans that are regularly found in rough shape due to where they were printed. The longer you collect the more you notice certain titles.

    Very nice video, Jules! The toothbrush is an excellent idea! I had never considered using one for the dusting. Way more effective than just a cloth! I'll give that a try! Nice collection! Have a wonderful day!

    I sometimes pick up a paperback that has the store name/address stamped in ink on the bottom of the book. Have you run across a way to clean that stamp off? I've tried sandpaper but I don't like the results.

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  ปีที่แล้ว

      If they've been stamped then it's really tricky, if not impossible, to remove them.👍

    I was wondering where you acquired those white dusters, and if they’re still available to buy, if so where you’d recommend I look?

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had these for years. They actually started yellow but have faded over time. Your local pound shop should have something similar🙂

      I have talked about it in past videos but not made a big deal about it. Basically, I'm going to bag up the rarities and fragile books but not everything 🙂
