    Instead of reaching down into the well, you can simply pop off the front panel that's at the bottom on the driver's side between left headlight and amber parking light. Simply use a panel remover. The panel is held by 2 notches.

    I did it in the driveway while grilling steaks tonight. Piece of cake! 10mm socket and a ratchet, had to unhook the nylon wire clamp to get the clearance.
    Now I can get into the campgrounds in the evenings without blinding the crap out of everyone!

    This is great! I’m looking to possibly retrofit my headlights on my ‘14 this summer and this mod will make it so my actual DRLs will work (wired into the parking lights) without the actual headlights being on!

    I'm so happy I stumbled across this video. I have the bumper removed on my 2010 FJ because I'm building a winch bumper, and I was wondering what that module was. I'll probably splice in a switch so I can select DRL when desired, rather than disconnecting the module.

      I’m glad this video helped out. Thanks for the comment. Yeea, I don’t have any choice which ads play. I actually had to google what exactly the difference between right wing and left wing because I care that little about politics haha. It only stresses me out and I just prefer to spend my time paying attention to things I enjoy. When it comes time for elections I just consult my family and they give the rundown.

    Hi, Kamal, I have a landcruiser that has the same type of engine on your car. My question is, do you have any problem with that engine ? What about Gas consumption?
    🙏 thanks.

    • @chainlink4241
      @chainlink4241 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's the dual VVT-i 4.0 liter used in the 2010+ FJ Cruisers (engine code 1GR-FE) then it's bullet proof. People have been running 300k+ miles on them with basic maintenance. Fuel consumption just depends on how the rig is set up and driven. I have a 2010 FJ Cruiser with 1" of lift (upgraded springs) and run 33's, I can hit around 21 mpg on the highway if I keep it under 65 mph. I see your comment was from 7 months ago, hope this helps...

      Raymond Gilbert Yeea, it’s been reliable since it’s a Toyota haha. It’s also surprisingly roomy inside. There’s a lot in the aftermarket for it too so you can do a lot to them. We mostly take ours on the beach. It’s nice because it doesn’t have carpets, it’s all plastic floor lining inside so cleaning out the sand is easy.

  • @krscholz

    Can the DRL be disconnected and used instead for a LED strip on a pair of running lights/fog lights? If so, will it always be on when the Cruiser is running and not interfere with the headlights?

    • @kamalakeel
      @kamalakeel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t seen that yet but you could probably wire something like that in. Yeea, the lights come on when you release the parking brake actually. So as long as that’s down the lights would be on.

  • @travisyork3915

    When you are running your original bulbs you have 3 different levels of brightness running lights low beams and high beams when you switch to the LED's it's just low and high

  • @FrequentSea

    Dude, if you put to drive and start moving, DRL will still turn on.. Isn't?

    • @kamalakeel
      @kamalakeel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it doesn’t turn on anymore, it’s actually the e-brake or parking brake that makes it turn on/off. Removing that module makes it so the lights only come on when you turn them on from the column.

    What if you just remove the DRL fuse?

    • @kamalakeel
      @kamalakeel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would also work. Some people will also access the relay for the circuit. Others actually go through the trouble to wire in a switch. There's a lot of options when it comes to disabling these that I've found haha. For our FJ we knew we just wanted them disabled but removing the fuse might be the easiest option for someone who's unsure if they want to keep the car that way. Thanks for pointing that out, it's definitely another good option for disabling the DRL.

    • @ovrlxnd
      @ovrlxnd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I bought my FJ, the previous owner had just unplugged them, so I've never given it much thought until I saw the fuse when installing the HKB voltage booster.

    • @mthewolf1095
      @mthewolf1095 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My 2012's light turn on when it's started and if you want to have them shut off you have to start your vehicle, put your vehicle in neutral, pull the e-brake, shut the vehicle off, then restart the vehicle and they stay off. Soooooo, that means that there is a switch in or around the ebrake that controls that and I assume it would be pretty easy to just install a dash switch that would circumnavigate the ebrake switch. When I get the time I will see if I can put up a video of me modifying mine.
