      I think a guest should bow to the audience - it happens so rarely -or wave - a few would do so - Orson Welles - John Wayne - David Niven - it is a nice gesture - also I feel today the same people say the same things while going from one chat show to other

    "The Girl Who Came to Supper " was a delightful show. I have the original cast album, and the songs were very good. But it just didn't catch on. It only ran for a few months.

    Dapper at all times, Coward was a unique, irreplaceable Englishman.

    Clockwise is right if you consider what the hands of a clock are doing in the top half of the clock (from 9 to 3). Clockwise is left if you consider what the hands are doing in the bottom half of a clock (from 3 to 9).

    yes it's from John's point of view because he's the one that can see the panel.

    They proceed clockwise from either the perspective of the panel or that of the host, if you include where the host and guest are sitting as part of the clock face. That is the advantage of speaking in terms of clockwise, whereas "left to right" or "right to left" would be ambiguous.

    I've seen so many of these great clips now; but why does John say "clockwise" for tha panal sitting in a straight line?

  • @Imthecuteone
    @Imthecuteone 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    clockwise is clockwise regardless how people sit whether it's a straight line or circle....John said clockwise, and began with Dorothy so she will start and every turn would go to the right, since clockwise is right, and counter clockwise is left. If John said counter clockwise and started with Dorothy, it would then be Robert Preston's turn instead of Bennett's. The game always goes clockwise though.

  • @JSC1401

    So clockwise from John's point of view but ANTIclockwise from a member of the panal's point of view!

    It's ironic that Robert Preston should be on the panel this episode. According to his diary, Noel Coward intensely disliked 'The Music Man' and walked out after the first act! We all know and love 'Music Man" - who remembers "The Girl Who Came to Supper'?

    From his first movie on, Preston ended up with some type of involvement with a woman in almost each production (both legit & film) along the way over the years. Andrews & Martin were exceptions to his 'leading lady fetish'. Then of course, there was the very long-term, "on/& off" , very intense relationship with Miss Peggy Lee. The "kid" prblem may have been with his wife.

    @Fixcan4U Don't know much about Preston's life do you ? I think the term "notorious womanizer" could VERY safely be use to describe him. I'm pretty sure the two were NOT friendly since Coward had seriously "dissed" The Music Man & Preston's legendary performance.

    why noel speak French?

    • @kayedeedid
      @kayedeedid 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      because his voice would have been easily recognized, as so many other celebrities do, he disguised his voice by speaking in French. Judy Garland used a little bell, Kate Smith spoke an octave above her normal register, people would speak in accents or grunts or taps, etc...

      @@kayedeedid The funniest, of course, was 'Rochester' (Eddie Anderson), whose voice was absolutely impossible to disguise.

    Since Noel Coward was a well known homosexual (a public secret at that time) I wonder why Robert Preston is kissing him, when Noel says goodbye to the panel. Was Preston another closet case? Just wondering.
