Stephen Fry lays flowers on the statue of Sir Noël Coward at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London on 12th December 2009. Stephen is a Vice-President of the Society.
This is such a fine speech from Stephen. He confidently delivers this in a calm state without his usual nervous gestures. No notes, no missteps, just a perfect speech. He is also strikingly handsome here.
In 2001, I spent a couple hours hanging around the lobby of the Drury Lane Theater, hoping for someone to return tickets so that my son and I could see the then-current production of 'My Fair Lady', so I saw quite a bit of that statue. Mr. Coward was one of my mother's favorite performers, with 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen' her favorite song of his. (I'm happy to report that we *did* manage to get tickets, btw. My son never met his grandfather, so this was a wonderful way of connecting with him, because Dad saw MFL with the original cast in that very theater!)

( 'Let's not put the heating on, they'll just stay on and get drunk') Coward, in his statuesk finery, seemed a bit disturbed when when being presented with a bouquet in his lap.
