It was noticeable from the start that you were feeling more like your old self. Glad you're feeling better and remember it's 100% ok to not feel ok, just don't forget to ask for help when you need it.
That made me laugh, too. A few years back, I was dating a woman with two young daughters, and I got them interested in the hobby. Tgey loved my planted tanks, so I gave them creative freedom one Christmas to set up their own tank. We'll, we ended up with clown puke gravel, every Sponge Bob decoration they make, glo fish, and only real plant because they liked the plastic ones that glowed. It was hideous, but at least I planted the seed and got them interested in the hobby🤷♂️🤣
Funny.. I recently replaced my substrate and crashed it… ammonia is 0: but it get significant high nitrite, fish still look okay.. it has been 10 days and still not see conversion to nitrate picking up.. Suggestions?
Yes it just happened to me I think I tried to get a new tank going and I used the hob media and the sponge filter media in new tank and left the old tank with to much of a shock I added seacham stability and Will try to fixed it tomorrow ✌️🇨🇦🙏
I am also 12 inside, I laughed out loud at the "Reader's Digest virgin" and instantly subscribed. Also great info for an accidentally crashed tank. Thank you!
So freaking happy to hear that you’re better. You’re a quick healer. Good video on the fish cycle. A lot of people screw that up. Repeat after me. No more wives. Girlfriend only!!!!!!
Watching this guy while smoking weed is funny!! I hope you get more subscribers the information you gave is great. My tank crashed with all the fishes dead for 6 times in a row and now i'm here.
Best video on this subject. Thanks soooooo much. Just learned this the hard way last weekend. Added new fish to a cycled tank but they were in there for 2 weeks. 36gal mbuna tank was overstocked at that point. Only had a penguin 275 pro filter cuz it was only a 36gal tank. Was gonna upgrade hob filters but didnt think i had to do it right away. Since the fish were doing good after 2 weeks i thought everything was fine but after i cleaned my overdue sponge filter and couple fake plants plus the addition of new fish within 2 weeks i guess that was enough to screw it up. Ugh. 9 out of 12 mbuna died within 1 week but didnt know what was going on since i never crashed a tank before. But guess i have better experience now. Should have used prime and stability just to be safe but just didnt think it would have crashed. Definitely caught me off guard.
My cycle hasn't crashed but I changed substrates. Now I'm getting constantly high nitrite daily! Daily water changes for wks now. Ammonia is at 0, nitrates at 5ppm. I use seachem prime & stability. So I'm wondering would upping my prime dose help correct this? I'm so lost & so over daily changes. 20g long heavily planted community tank. I'm at full capacity on fish too
I was up all night till 6am. 21 days into cycle. 6 days w Clownfish. Marine tank crashed so bad. Ammonia spiked to 2.0 ppm. Nitrites 5 ppm ,Nitrates over 180 ppm. 2 clowfish were hanging by my bubbles, one floating sideways. It was 2am. I acted fast. I put them in large clear cup. Dosed prime , made it alkaline with 1.023 . Fish after 30 min starting swimming normally. Then , I called my wife and son to help me at 3am to do an instant water change 50%. Main tank recovered. Dosed 5 x times of Prime into 60 gal tank. Ph 8.4, Ammonia 0, Nitrites, 1.0ppm ,Nitrates 2.0ppm. System stable now, fish swimming and eating, looking happy. THIS CYCLYING PROCESS HAS BEEN HELL 4 ME. TANK WAS STALLED. I STILL HV NO CLUE WHY EVERYTHING SPIKED SO HIGH, ESPECIALLY AMMONIA. Thanks to my knowledge I saved my fish. If I'd had corals I would have shit in my pants. I want to build a reef tank bit I'm nervous. Cuz it's so expensive and I know I can loose all my stock overnight.
Thanks for the vid. Recently crashed my tank after years of thinking I know everything. Any chance you can give me a hint on the title of that nitrogen cycle video? I scrolled through and couldnt find it
Great to see you Feeling better my good sir. Personally I stopped the consumption of all alcoholic beverages years ago. Life became marginally tolerable since. 😅 Keep doing your thing one day at a time, whatever it is that floats your boat.
I recently bought a small homestead and using well water. I'm having major problems loosing my cycle after adding the fish. Never had this problem when using city water. What am I doing wrong or what can I do differently?
@MichaelsFishRoom tank went through the cycle and gave it a couple weeks before adding the fish. Then after a few days the nitrite has sky rocketed and won't come down. I'm raising in tilapia in ibc totes FYI. I think I figured it out, I think the flow rate to the bio filter is way to fast. Thank you
55 argonite sand and and black soil planted tank good for 5 months , had a ill fish nitrate 40 did 40% water change used amaqel plus as declorinator and then all sudden ph 7.6 to 6 and now i have no idea . And no explantion here
My test is all at 0. I have a 55g overstocked (I think) which has been running for about 9 months. I haven’t lost any fish. I have no plants. Maybe 4 months ago I took the sand out and put in gravel. I had a good cycle at one point but don’t know when it dropped off. Any suggestions?
Is it possible that my tank crashed because I stopped doing water changes? My tank had been cycled for a few months, but nitrates were always 0 and some plants aren't doing so well so I decided to stop doing weekly water changes and after four weeks (today) nitrates reached 20, but I noticed a fish staying in the bottom of the tank, so I tested ammonia and nitrite and ammonia was 0.25 (or maybe 0.5 or something in between, honestly the API Master kit is a bit hard to read) and nitrites still 0. So I just performed a 30% water change after a month of no water changes. I wasn't too worried honestly, but now I fear the cycle has crashed.
@MichaelsFishRoom I apologize. I'm asking if I add aragonite to my tank would it throw off the cycle of the tank? The tank already has aragonite but it's very shallow
Hi michael, Great video but you started about soccer im from the netherlands so my question to you do you have any club in europe you support? Hope your doing well & stay healthy! Have a great day ❤
@@MichaelsFishRoom hi Michael you support my old trainer im from the netherlands and love AFC Ajax its a part of my life have a great weekend and stay healthy❤️🩹
I need help with my fish, I never had a problem until 2 months ago. My tank stoped cycling, ammonium high, zero nitrates and zero nitrates. I’m experienced enough to know all about the nitrogen cycle, beneficial bacteria, treating tap water, water changes, heaters, air stones, etc, being a fish owner for several years. Anyway, my water is clear with a few fish for over 2 weeks, since cycling doesn’t occur, I add beneficial bacteria per the instructions, my tank smells rancid for about 8-12 hours and the fish die, I remove the fish, wait 2 weeks, no change using the API test kit. High ammonium, etc, and try again with the same results. Obviously something odd is preventing bacteria growth. Please advise. Thanks
That's funny, the cycle in my terrapins tank just crashed. I've been doing exactly what I'm not supposed to do which is chase the foggy water hoping to avoid a full blown bloom. Sucks. 🤔 Fritz aye? Well I use their oxide products to polish my gem stones and take underscoring out of glass. Not sure if I could use something with the fritz name in my pets water knowing the powerful chemicals this company produces. I'm not saying I don't like fritz , just to me they're a straight up chemical company. In fact I think I sho7ld do some research an$ make sure it's the sam3 fritz company and maybe rethink what exactly the ethical parameters are of this company if they are the same. If they are it seems like they'll just make a chemical substance for anything huh
Squeeze your filter sponges out in a bucket of water from the tank..... My opinion is once the nitrogen cycle begins, you need to be on top of your tank til it balances out. Water changes, small ones, twice daily if needed...dilution purposes....leave your filter alone while all of this is happening...Once ammonia and nitrite read 0, then flush the filter pads, wipe down what you can,(IN A BUCKET, USING THE SAME WATER AS IN THE AQUARIUM) but this is your filter...it should never be spotless... Who is changing substrate while this is happening? JUST DONT DO IT! This should be your mindset during the nitrogen cycle...You are POWERLESS to it, so simply learn how to keep up. Small 10-15% frequent water changes, limit the food to miniscule amounts, even feed every 2 or 3 days.....if you have a planted tank, get close enough to the substrate to get loose debris. Ive done this more times I can count through the decades....Ive never suffered losses because of this. Good luck everyone!
@@MichaelsFishRoom For about a month...maybe a little longer if you add animals slowly. Maybe I'm old-school, but its a cycle which takes time, and I do not trust products which claim to "speed things along". You get a solid, more natural foundation.
