      Oh I like this.. Energetically you mean right? As their messages are pertaining to quite different forms of measuring and approaching life. I'd say ending up in a somewhat similar state of being if one was to follow their wisdom to its fullest.. I think it's kinda like they're both measuring and speaking about the same body of water, however measuring and talking about with different tools (use of words) and focus. Like one is focused on the quality of the water, what's hidden in it, and the other is concerned with its quantity and the weight of it at different states. I'm an awestruck JP fan, but if you were to follow their teachings to the extent they have outlined in their body of works, I'd say David has a slight edge over JP for a couple reasons.. David's is more simplistic in his words (JP loves to use words as play to get into the nuances of things, which is undeniably what makes him so phenomenonal, whereas David tries to use as few as possibly necessary and leaves them there for you to pick up - or not) and I think this is usually the way that the most profound teachings are given to us. And secondly, because he's focused around sexuality. Which I've come to realise is actually one of the most potent, core aspects of our beings to understand, fully embody and master - as a tool (possibly even the most wide reaching, fastest cutting tool available to us) to access the divine and to become actualised as a whole hearted and integrated human being. When you look at ancient traditions, they knew that. That's why there's sex postures carved into entrances of hindu temples for example. Maybe a better way to categorise JP and David would be through David's super useful distinction between 'Therapy, Yoga and Spiritual practice' - (see the very old video series of his on this - Function, Flow and Glow) you can be in practice or devotion of any one of these at any given time (interestingly, he points out it's possible to be totally adept at 1 or 2 of them and completely incapable with the other/s) as he distinguishes they have nothing to do with each other. And David's work and interest, he makes clear, is only dealing with how to make ART with the form of your existence, with everything you have been incarnated with, as a devotion to a higher energy/purpose (he calls God). Just like in this video, he's stated many times how he's not at all interested in, nor is what his work is about (although sees its necessary value) in guiding people through psychological issues. Which is 100% JP's domain 😊. David clarifies therapy as absolutely different to the artful yoga he speaks about (although he clearly makes it known he thinks its just as valuable and usually necessary for most people) - and more defines therapy as focused on what you need to realise/do/practice to become a more integrated human being, towards a higher order/functioning (JP also seems to think of it as the order of God). And then someone like Eckhart Tolle would be a teacher who's only interested in the spiritual practice of realising who you are right now, (Eckhart doesn't use the terminology God very often, but one way to put it to tie it in here is that his work is all about seeing the God in you). I think this distinction that David makes is so profoundly useful - if you haven't checked that out do! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    It's not true that your therapist sees you better than you see yourself, not if you've put any serious work into this. But after three or four decades of life, our blind spots stack up in the basement like so much disused sports and exercise equipment, and then you really do need to seek a junk-in-the-trunk sports-equipment exorcism by a qualified Freudian.

    oh man, not sure where to begin. let's start here: I love your enthusiasm, David, and your seemingly earnest desire to help others. i really do. now, here's the rub, as you yourself stated: "others can see us better than we can see ourselves", man, i'm just not sure you have a totally coherent worldview with respect to psychological growth, development, maturation, etc. let alone spiritual realities. i've followed your work since the integral naked days, and I do love that you spend time working things out, trying to assess problems and point out where we are lost...but, I just can't seem to follow as to where you think it all should lead. what's the end point? and i can't seem to follow a cogent framework you are working within. please keep working on this and put up a video about the nature of mankind, and where our problems arise from, and why we should (or should not, as you posit) overcome them. p.s. in full disclosure i'm a follower of the way; the way laid out by jesus of nazareth 2,000 years ago. i think he laid out a cogent analysis of our problems, and a coherent plan to "salvation". with all due love. Jim.

    • @Pneumanon
      @Pneumanon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      James Owens- I posted this on one of the other recent videos, but this thread touches on something that always makes me uneasy about David Deida- he seems not to be accessible except via his workshops. To my knowledge he doesn't release video content at all, and what is available on TH-cam is minimal. He would seem more trustworthy in my mind if he did personally release maybe a series of videos outlining the basics of his views and doing a Q&A or an AMA. That would allow the public to learn more about him and to test what he is teaching, which I think is important.
      Maybe he's done this somewhere in which case great, but his website only lists the 3 video workshops, one set of videos for each of the last 3 decades. And the most recent one (this one we're watching) has only excerpts- you have to pay to see the full lecture. There's nothing wrong with Deida making money from his work, but he doesn't seem to do _anything_ he doesn't get paid for. Maybe he just doesn't need to? But then again, is it about what he needs, or is it about giving his deepest gift to others? Hmm...
      I think Deida has some good things to say, and my life has benefited from his work- though it has mostly flowed through other sources- it's really just a shame that he pops up in 'public' so rarely.

    • @jrbowens
      @jrbowens 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I think David echoes parts of ideas that I've heard from many other folks who have been writing over the last many centuries... And I love to hear those echoes in modern voices, made more relevant to modern times. David's a real radical, which I will always love in people.
      Peace, Jim.

    • @Curiousnessify
      @Curiousnessify 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James - if other people see us better than ourselves, then i see you as trying to impose a certain way of looking at things on Deida and judging him for not having this certain point of view that you have already come to the conclusion is the proper way, based on your own subjective understanding. if this is your trip its all good, but perhaps all the things you enjoyed about him in the past led him to be what he is in this point in time, and as he said hes constantly changing his point of view. Yes both Deida and this message i wrote is not a logical, coherent, mathematical, take it to the bank kind of message, because reality is not like that. we can squeeze reality into a narrow point of view but it doesnt actually became that. reality is as it is, without our preconceived notions, and this is absolutely impossible to put into coherent sentences, because its an individual experience.

      i would imagine it might be that spent a lot of time with adi da samraj, formerly known as da free john (amongst other names) who turned out to be a megalomaniacal creepy not good vibe teacher. there are karmic traces of impurities in his field/teachings that are palpable. when dan wilson says he is clearly loved and appreciated and respected by the majority, dan doesn't understand that majority rules do not dictate depth of cognition and realization, in culture conditioned to follow fame and mainstream success. we are being further pushed into virtuality, so i don't think things are going to get better, for a public hungry for instant results.
