    These guys kill it live. Such a shame they have to play small venues over here in the US, I'd love to see them over in Europe where they're MASSIVE.

    • @lolalea5245
      @lolalea5245 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tbh they play relatively big venues but they're not really massively popular over here, well in the UK anyway xx

      They’re not Massive in Europe. Mid level indie band. Some good songs though.

    Missed opportunity to cover Tord's bass rig as well... :(

    • @J8D2
      @J8D2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A precision bass and an svt. Same for 80% of bass players.

    • @MisterJawaman
      @MisterJawaman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +T Scott Don't know what Tord uses precisely so I am still curious. I know he also uses a Fender baritone Jaguar, plus he uses some kind of vintage looking Bassman head + cabinet in conjunction with the SVT. Probably uses some pedals as well. So not quite 80% of all bass players, or whatever random percentage people come up with. ;)
      Even if it was just a P with SVT it sometimes is more interesting to listen to the approach of the player in regards to 'tone' and techniques. I watched J.D. Simo geek out over his gear for 40 min, which was basically a Gibson ES and a Marshall stack.

    • @J8D2
      @J8D2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MisterJawaman I get what you mean, I would have liked to see his gear but he probably doesn't take much on the road. When I saw them I think he used the same bass for the whole set and his amp setup was relatively small.

      +T Scott he used a fuzz pedal also i think

    I appreciate that not every musician needs to be a gear fetishist, that's great...but surely taking a little bit of interest in your own stuff wouldn't go amiss. Talk about looking like you'd rather be somewhere else, I thought he was about to drop off giving his own gear tour.
    All credit to John for being so upbeat, he always gives a great rundown. He was up against tough odds here though, seemed like trying to get blood from a stone. If the techs weren't there to save the day and explain Murph's gear for him it would have been about three minutes long.

    • @KevinHamProductions1
      @KevinHamProductions1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree, I find it pretty pathetic that he "doesn't know what he uses" and blah blah, you'd think he'd take somewhat of an interest and knowledge in what he's playing, it's somewhat sad too that he finds tone pots/pickup selectors to be worthless, seriously it's kind of a joke

    • @pd4165
      @pd4165 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +Egregious How's your album sales and international tour going?
      I doubt that the band actually asked for the rundown - PG.com needs fodder for its channel.
      Also - if you guys haven't experienced English people before - we don't tend to come across as excited unless cups of tea are involved, and Bohlinger didn't bring any.

    • @KevinHamProductions1
      @KevinHamProductions1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +pd4165 album sales are poor for me lol, I know it wasn't as exciting and lively as I'd hoped, it just boggles my mind how people can be so satisfied with being so simplistic...you'd think as an "artist" he'd be a little more in touch and appreciative of what he's got instead of acting like some 12 year old god who let's his peasants create some rig for the master artist

    • @Steve_9292
      @Steve_9292 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +pd4165 Ah, the old 'if you haven't done it you can't criticise' routine. Very original.
      My album sales and international tour? Non-existent my lovely, entirely non-existent. But if you'll bother to read my post properly in no way did I attack his musicianship or his skills as a songwriter. I've heard of the band but can't say I'm familiar with their music, but if they're able to make a living doing it then good for them, I'm not criticising his skills as a musician. That in no way affects my point.
      It just seems vastly odd to me that someone in a band, who many people will have heard of, blindly places everything in the hands of the techs to such a degree. All musicians shovel off the heavy lifting to a tech when they get to the level required to have them, I'm not disputing that, but this isn't a case of not wanting to change your own strings or swap out your own pickups; he gave the impression that he wouldn't even know how to turn his own rig on if he was without a tech to do it for him.
      As far as experiencing English people, being British myself I most certainly have. I don't expect him to be bouncing off the walls in excitement, but that doesn't mean that showing a modicum of interest in the conversation you have elected to have is too much for ask for.

    I don't believe that there is such a thing as a late 90's Jazzmaster. Looks like a Classic Player from the last 8-ish years.

    • @Noisehead101
      @Noisehead101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is some Japanese made Jazzmasters from the 90s, I’ve got one. This in the video is also a 90s Jazzmaster because the Japanese versions are true to the originals where the trust rod hole is at the body end of the neck, not the headstock. Classic players have the truss rod hole in the head stuck. So this in the video is definitely a 90s.

    I've been watching almost all of the Rig Rindowns and I have must respect for John's work dealing with all kinds of people and I feel like I could write something about this one because of Egregious and Peter Phillips-Vass writed here and I can relate to what they're feeling but one have to agree that there are a lot of people seeing this kind of videos and perhaps some of them are fans of bands like The Wombats, wich I'm not and I think Jonh neither and a lot of us too. Don't understand what's the point of playing with fx and don't knowing what I'm I playing. But I think the Wonbats are not about guitar tone or fx.... I think they're more pop songs oriented wich is fine for me even if I don't like. Never heard of them before and because of the comments here I give a little view on some videos of them and ok I can't say I hate it but it's not my music..... but I like to see all the Gig rundowns anyway, I learn a lot, I see people I like some not but still interestinf to know all about gear....I could be on one of those videos but I'm on the other side of the word. Keep up the good work people!!!

    Nothing sucks tone out of your signal quite like a Boss tuner...

    • @Noisehead101
      @Noisehead101 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nonsense. Boss tuners are used by so many famous artists who have some of the best guitar tech’s around, Do you think they would use them if they sucked tone? In fact they have pretty good buffers, which is handy when you have quite a big pedal board. True bypass isn’t always good if that’s all you use. You sound just like the kind of person that reads things on cork sniffing Internet forums and repeats it but never played outside of a bedroom

      Their name was quickly made last minute after a gig asked them "who should we say are performing tonight" and one of them (I think it was Dan) just quickly was like "the wombats" as they all had relations to animals through nicknames and stuff. Since they didn't really like the name they said they'd change it later down the line but if course they never did and now they're called "the wombats"
