This guy is brilliant !! Great material, great delivery, great energy. The problem with the audience is that they were mostly middle-aged adults, moms, dads, even some grand parents there. Once you become a parent, you no longer laugh at subjects you did as a kid. You are now a protector, a nurturer, a provider. Your sense of humor and your sense of life is totally different. You are now a serious person, who only laughs at your political enemies and rich people convicted of fraud who end up going to jail.

I always thought Jimmy's style of a constant stream of one-liners was a more American style of comedy compared to most other British comics I've seen, which I'll admit is not as many as I would like. That's outside of panel shows of course, where one-liners lend to the format and probably why he is such a presence in that genre of television.

OllieSmythable British humour is self deprecating, the comedian is an everyman. It's how comedy works in a lot of Britain and Australia but you look at american humour and it's an entirely different dynamic.
I am aware of the nature of British humour being British myself. The point I was trying to make was that just because the two kinds of humour are different, doesn't mean one is better than the other - laughs are subjective and so comparing humour on some sort of invented scale of quality is quite ridiculous and petty, though that is exactly what a huge amount of people do. I just find it bizarre.

I think I caught a few people in the crowd looking around after a joke as if to see if others in their group are laughing and therefore allow themselves to laugh. Excellent indicator of quality comedy! :-)

Ah, I see another British comedian in North America set has sparked a 'our humour is better than your humour' dick-swinging contest. As if comedy can be objectively measured and rated. Thanks internet for bringing small minded people together to a forum where they can insult each other and stereotype entire nations with boring and embarrassingly antiquated views - ''Them Americans/British all must be like that, I seen 'em on the tv''. Lovely stuff, I almost forgot that we live in the 21st century.
OllieSmythable British humour is self deprecating, the comedian is an everyman. It's how comedy works in a lot of Britain and Australia but you look at american humour and it's an entirely different dynamic.
I am aware of the nature of British humour being British myself. The point I was trying to make was that just because the two kinds of humour are different, doesn't mean one is better than the other - laughs are subjective and so comparing humour on some sort of invented scale of quality is quite ridiculous and petty, though that is exactly what a huge amount of people do. I just find it bizarre.
