    Its amazing to me that these are not only built, but that they're profitable. The numbers are just so far over my head. A single oil change would bankrupt me, lol.

    I worked at the N.A.R.M. Coal mine for a spell. The most common haul truck used there is the Liebherr T 284, a 667 ton truck that hauls 400 tons.
    They move 150 million tons of coal per day out of that mine. And last I heard they still had 20 more years worth of coal yet to dig under what land they currently own/lease.
    The interesting thing is, when a mine is finished with a pit, it doesn’t leave a huge open pit. Instead, they leave a mostly flat, pristine pasture that the mine will lease out to the cattle industry for a number of years as the land settles.

    • @clinkerclint
      @clinkerclint ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Maybe 150 million tons over the life of the mine? Nevermind, I just looked up NARM. 100 tons a year. Thats HUGE. The mine I worked at produced a little over 4 million tons of clean coal a year. It's a baby compared to Powder River.

    • @snaggo6666

    • @esesel7831
      @esesel7831 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vvevvevvvv why does no one understand what torque is? its a basically meaningless variable. have a high reving low torque engine? just step the speed down with a gearbox now you have a low reving high torque output shaft. Diesel engines are no better in industrial tasks than petrol. they just trade their higher efficiancy and lower running costs for less power density which doesnt matter in big machines. basically all locomotives have enough power to overcome traction and start slipping up to speed of at least 40 kmh. the limiting factor for train weight is basically never torque(power) but traction. therefore freight locos have more and often bigger wheels and weight more

    It appears to have a mid-pivoting front axle, like an old cart's, instead of front wheels that pivot on the ends of a laterally fixed axle. Interesting. That would essentially mean it has two similar axles. I guess that kingpins and drag links won't work too well at those GVWs! I also noticed that rather crude-looking pipe elbows that are welded from short angled sections: wouldn't they have worse flow than elbows with mandrel-bent and smooth-bore curves?
