It's a great way to look at it if it was a simple world. Reality is, there are people unable to fight for themselves, so require others to help them in the cause...
If one can help that cause, why not another? And another and another...so on so forth...

@@DL_UK I don't think there is a big difference in the slightest.... perhaps the start and end points are vastly different, but it's very easy to go from one instance to another with a very small step, rinse and repeat and you're at the end before you know it.
Standing up for someone means you're standing against someone else's opinion... standing up for someone different means you're standing against someone's view to abuse them for their difference...
There are plenty of folks who are banded together with their hatred of difference... and capital punishments are meted out for it... Hard to ignore things like that.
I'll just add that I'm not naive enough to assume we do or have done all we have done in order to just be nice (on a power scale...) its all done for various gains...

I like who you seem to be, but I disagree that your ideals would work. Again in the perfect world where people keep their f'ing hands to themselves it would work perfectly, but there is too much tit for tat in the air...that and we live on a sliding scale of right and wrong.
Remember that in the UK in the 50's was it? That homosexuality was still illegal, now 70 years later we have pride days, weeks, months etc... I've even spoken to a couple gay lads that want nothing to do with it because in their opinion it groups them all together as one...
So one minute a wrong is then actually a right then a its a wrong again?!?

The problem is some peoples convictions mean they have to wage war.

@@Megamush707 much more succinctly put, but my thoughts exactly!

Looking at the state of this country, I wonder if WWII was a win for us. Perhaps speaking German wouldn’t have been as bad.
