At NAB 2024, SmallRig and Potato Jet (TH-camr Gene Nagata) have been showcasing Tribex, a fast-setup hydraulic tripod built to support filmmaking gear in the field. Its carbon fiber legs are extendable via a single clutch - the X-Clutch. With a single press-and-hold action one may quickly adjust all three legs, and even level the base while doing so. Though not extremely compact, the Tribex is very agile and can quickly be set to any location or height.

Brilliant tripod. What I’d love, is for the legs to click into an angle and stay there without having to use a spreader. Most tripods note only sets a limit to how far it spreads out with the individual legs, but can easily drop inward once you start moving them, which often is a pain when you just need to make a small adjustment, or move it from one spot to another.

The most important part is that the legs should easily slide out even after years of use… for some reason smallrig isn’t a company I trust with such details.

check the specs it weighs 3.4kg, it's very heavy, I agree that everything else is cool , especially the 27cm size when collapsed, but it is way too heavy for me...

Damn I just bought the smallrig carbon fiber fluid head (it’s great, I also shoot on a $2000 carbon fiber set of flow tech sticks and it does almost as well for a quarter of the price) but I would have bought this if it was on the market at the time. And potato jet is a good dude. I’m sure this will be a hit.

I was impressed until I saw the height. The site advertises 141cm, or 4.6 ft, or 5.5ft with the head extended. Not sure at this point. Really depends on the pricing.

Great for unlevelled terrain, but how often you use it for that situation it's a different story for every1.
Great innovation no doubt, even though the Flowtech Sachtler tripod can do the same job with a locking lever, it does cost a lot more.
That tripod is coming in x-clutch.
I would never trust my FX9 being safe on SmallRig legs.

But the head is standard. No one released anything similar to Sachtler Flowtech head when is super easy and fast remove the head from tripod and add the head to slider or anything else...

That did not seem to be doing well. It still takes time and does not level easily when lifting up or going down. So what's the point if you "need practice" to get this right???

@@dmrvideoproduction I don't want to have to cover up his name with my own sticker. It's super tacky to have to do that. This is the same reason I will never buy peter McKinnon branded stuff, because I find it very tacky. Potato jet is really nice and a likeable guy. That's his talent, explaining camera stuff in a helpful and fun way. Is he a really talented filmmaker? Not particularly, from what I've seen. That's not a personal knock, just an observation. So why am I going to put someone's name on my gear, especially when it's a stupid dumb name like "potatoe jet" ? You think I want my client reading the word "potatoe jet" on my gear? It's unprofessional and it's tacky.
3.4kg is very heavy for a tripod made out of carbon fiber :(
