I like this project! I have a Kohler K582, and a Tec HH15 ( 15 HP ) TEC needs rebuild... That's one to call you about. I need some gaskets for the K582 soon, so will be calling about it. Carb, head, exhaust mainly. Starter for K582, maybe, too.
I have used my backhoe for about 6 years now. 1/8" tube is not heavy enough for the out riggers. I just pulled the bushing out of the end of the tube. good call on the main boom going with 3/16. I also pulled the bushing out of that one too.
+Andy Tatro Thanks for the insight. What kind of tractor is yours mounted on? I am using plans from PF Engineering, and I hope that the recommended materials in the plans work well If not, outriggers are not too difficult to replace in the event of failure.
Max Strout I'm currently building one for an old jacobsen commercial mower. the 149 is a great one because of the IH rear end and the frame is easy to bolt stuff onto. You can do this to any old Garden Tractor. I also have a Ford LGT with a FEL on it.
I would think maybe drilling some 1/2in holes in your plates and do rosette welding would make it a lot stronger like on the arm on the boom where the two pieces came together.
Very nice job

I also used the pf plans. I have mine on a 1250 cubcadet.
+Andy Tatro double thanks for the heads up then! I will build a second set of outriggers out of 3/16"
+isavetractors let me know if there was anything else that you would have done differently knowing what you know now.
it's a great little backhoe for sure. I wouldn't really change much if I did it over other then a little heavier tube.
I want to know why Norman chose the Cub Cadet 149 for this purpose. Were there other garden tractors that would have been more suitable ?
Hello is this project for sale? Or the parts?
How bout a mini dozer from a cub cadet?
why out of all the 149 out of all the other tractors? does it have a pump already built into it or is it stronger than all the others?

isavetractors thanks for the response, so if I wanted to put a front loader on a case the older models would work best like the 149, 107, 142 etc
Max Strout yes all of the older models would work. the transmissions for the old ones were built for more heavy duty work and weight.
isavetractors thanks
what size tires did you put on your Cub 149 ? I recall you saying that you where going to run duals on the back in an earlier video.
FullMetalFab I ended up using 23 x 10.5 x 12 ag tires. I later decided not to use the dual tire set up on this project.

+matt jordan Great suggestion! Thank you!
