    The fact that Brian and Roger asked Freddie's mom to accept the award on his behalf shows how much they loved Freddie. I understand why John was not there...he suffers from depression and when Freddie died it got worse. I still love all four of them...

    Long ago in the 1970s I was in a music shop known for superb vintage guitars. I was trying out an old Martin when Brian and Roger happened to come in. It was in a city well-known for its "normal," low-key attitude toward famous musicians. They can usually walk around town like everyone else. Aside from being great guys and complete gentlemen, Brian shared the fact that he uses silver sixpence coins instead of picks most of the time. I tried it out and worked out several variations that worked for me -- for about the past 25 years, I use only coins that are at least 90% silver when playing electric guitars. Some I use as they are. Some I hammer and shape for a different sound. I've even made a few finger picks and other things out of silver. The sound is fabulous -- all thanks to Brian May's courtesy.

    I remember seeing this on HBO way back when and thinking Freddie’s been gone 10 years already. Now we are approaching 30 years without Freddie and it still feels bad. I shake my head thinking about Aids and how many have died so needlessly.

    There are hundreds of musicians who got their Grammy's but are forgotten and the new generation never knew. QUEEN may not have those grammys's but their music lives in their fans' heart all over the world. Freddie's birthday is celebrated up to this year. His life and music live in our hearts far greater than any award one can have!

    Rockstars, despite looking really rough and tough, seem to be the most respectful (and smartest) group of musicians. They don't seriously diss other well-known groups and the more junior groups actually show much respect to their "godfathers". Almost feels like a fraternity.

    After Freddie died, John stayed on long enough to help the band out with the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 1992, and then (from what I've heard) decided he had about enough of the music business and went into permanent retirement from it. B & R always say the door's open for him to return whenever he likes, but John usually tells them thank you and then gives them the address where they can send the royalty checks...absent, maybe, but definitely not stupid!

      Every performer and songwriter gets royalties even after they die. Your point?

    • @gideonharris1493
      @gideonharris1493 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You heard wrong. John went into semi retirement when Freddie died. He played on Made in Heaven and lastly got together to record No One But You (Only The Good Die Young) in 1997. Then he formally and permanently retired when he finished playing that song.

      After they got rid of the manager that ripped them off (death on two legs) john took over their accounting. It isn't them sending the cheques to him, it's him doling the money out.
