- Had a customer looking to significantly improve the walking path from his house to his sons house. So, the roughly cut in path is now a super highway free of ticks and snakes for the grandkids to run back and forth.

the message at the end is what people need to hear most. i think that you have a 319 or similar excavator coming. i can't think of anything else that it might be unless you got a bigger dozer like a D11. lol

Looks almost like what I’m trying to put together right now, not the path, the business model. One man, two machines, no employees. And be secure enough to not have to work cheap just to make the equipment payments.
That is a great business model. There are several folks on TH-cam doing that very thing. If the work is available in your area just figure out an advertising plan until you get your word of mouth and referrals going good. I wish you well it's very satisfying to do this work and make your own way...

I think for the folks with the issues it’s easy to deny Gods existence in order to claim they’re correct. I think it has a lot to do with the blatant hatred for the father and his followers in social media. Angry that they cant get away with the lies and open sin under his rule and existence. I do hate that this causes a division between them and their father. But I suppose all sin no matter what it is makes us want to hide from him. Can’t have it both ways. Great job Sam! Keep it up!

I like that sign. Pretty good job on it. The walk way is turning out looking good. To bad you couldn’t have used the 309 to drive to rebar down. Would have made the job easier. And to bad you didn’t have a strong enough drill and long enough drill bit to pre drill the holes in while it was bundled up. That would have saved some time as well. Enjoyed it same.

You weigh after loading gravel but not before (if the empty weight of your truck is recorded in the files of the quarry) normally that’s right ?
Right, they have our empty weight on file. They want us to run through for a new empty weight occasionally...

I'm about 9 hrs from Pittsburgh.
Several good excavators out there. Really comes down to how much you want to spend. I've seen some Sany machines, which are lower cost, that do a good job. Then Takeuchi, CAT, John Deere and on up the line that cost more and have added features. I'm partial to CAT but other folks talk highly about their machines too. Facebook Marketplace is a good place to find used machines.

Hey Sam . How do you go about getting jobs , advertising ? I have been running equipment for 28 years and just recently bought a 309 from Cat with a FECON head on it . I've got a couple of buckets and would like to get a skid steer dump truck and trailer to haul this stuff around but I need more jobs and know nothing about the business side of things .
Also , have you ever read God's Plan for Man by Finis Jennings Dake ? I believe you would find it fascinating.
The business side is the aggravating side, digging part is the enjoyable part. 😁
I'm mostly word of mouth and referrals now. But when I started I went to place like the mini barn/shed places and gave out cards and paid a referral fee to the person that sent me the job. I also worked with a larger excavation company and paid them a 10% commission on all the work they sent me. Midsized to large excavation companies turn away residential, farm and small commercial work daily. If you can get into an agreement with one or more of them for those referrals you will be wide open in a short amount of time. Once you build up a customer base you won't have to rely on referrals from those companies. Also, the 2x2 yard sign are pretty effective in getting calls. I have a friend who does Facebook adds and gets jobs that way. Hope some of this helps and I wish you well in the business...

If you get the right company on the phone it will be a jackpot. Main thing is feed him some money for the referrals and you are set. Within 8 months or so you probably will be fully on your own with word of mouth and customer referrals. Let me know how it's going...

The property owner wanted it to be a 6' path between the cross ties. I built up the rock bed so it would have good foundation outside the cross ties...
