Last night, I saw Shinedown live and they dedicated this song to Prince. Definitely a beautiful moment with all of the lighters, the flashlights on everyone's phone, and the singing of the crowd.
I was hearing it and had to search it out on the video. I was looking in the video to see who replied about it. I don't see how some people didn't realize it.

In that sense, the Shinedown version is far more dull. Personally I think Ronnie Van Zant's vocals fit the song better as well. Brent sings it far too grunge-y.

Last summer Brent Smith and Zack Myers performed at a small bar (I was lucky enough to be friends with the owner) in town (acoustic set), they did 45, second chance, and a few other of the bands songs acoustically...they were outstanding, but when they did Simple Man, it simply blew me away...I love lynyrd skynyrd, but that's the most inspiring and heartfelt version I've ever heard...keep on rocking it out Shinedown.

As I was in the car this evening, my boyfriend was driving and we were singing this together, he and i looked at each other as we both said we love this song.
