It is awesome how controlled the breakup sounds at max volume. It does not have that typical tube-saturated sound that other amps have. I find some amps go into fuzz territory when up too loud. Ac30 does not do that.
What the Vox guys very cleverly did, which is take off all of the negative feedback, so you get a curve and then gradually goes into distortion, and it’s the gradual curve which is the sound a lot of people are looking for. That’s what makes Vox a Vox.
Filtertrons are awesome. People tend to overlook them in the context of louder music because they're pretty low output but they have a unique tone that you don't hear often since Gretsch's aren't super mainstream.
I had one of the British made reissues from 2000. Never got to hear it overdriven. I turned it all the way up once and it was blisteringly loud but it was pretty clean even at that volume and there was no way I could have tried hitting the strings hard to get breakup without someone on the block calling the cops. Mine had one Greenback and one blue alnico, so maybe that’s why it had more headroom, I don’t know. Anyway it was a great sounding high headroom clean, but because it wouldn’t breakup, and all my overdrive pedals sounded terrible through it (a quick online research told me that it’s a common problem to find drive pedals that AC30s like) , so I ended up selling it.
Love the Queen songs, Bran May’s weapon of choice. One thing to be said about those Vox ac30 amps is that they’re really loud & yet Beatles fans used to drown out those things like nothing. Those amps were no match for screaming fans. Let that sink in...

@@kenichi407 There are immediate deadly voltages inside a tube amp (like 500V+ DC). And these voltages can remain on there for a long time even if the amp is turned off and unplugged due to the capacitors.

sakamuras s In any given situation a manufacturer has a duty of care to reduce risks to as low as is reasonably practicable. A toaster or an electric fire simply won’t work without exposed live elements. Toaster manufacturers practicably can't eliminate the risk that some idiot might try to stick a knife in the toaster when its elements are live. Amplifiers in contrast work perfectly well without having their circuit boards exposed. Removing a device designed to prevent electric shocks is very unwise. Amplifiers operate at relatively high voltage and shocks are invariably fatal. I'm being direct here because I want this young fella to avoid a horrible accident.
Vox is notorious for not dissipating heat at loud volumes. Has plagued the amps for forever. Many people quit playing vox back in the day because they would end up burning up.
It’s completely fine. I have the back off. It gets rid a lot of heat. I was thinking of installing a 12v exhaust fan. But no backplate is doing a great job.
I run an ac30 with the Tone King Ironman mini attenuator with fantastic results! Highly recommend the iron man if you’re looking to ease the volume of a cranked vox
For me, wearing socks whilst holding electronics. I’ve had experiences that creates static and shocks me. Especially having that amp with no back on. It’s dangerous. So o had to wear bare foot.
It’s 125db. It’s pretty loud. On video it sounds like not loud. Because the iPhone microphone dims down to stop earrape. Otherwise you wouldn’t be able to hear it properly.
BigMommaZiga well depends how loud you play it. The louder it is the more heat it’s gonna try and dispute. But for average playing it’s fine. But for playing at louder volumes it’ll heat up more because heat is trying to dispute quicker. I just have mine out because I play at max volume and i need to dispute heat quicker
Can i use this amp in my room? My friend told me you can not use this in the home...because it's sound is very loud even on volum 1..please let me know
Too bad you didn’t have a SPL meter, because these things go to at least 120dB. I use a 40 ft cable, stand in a walled stairwell with the amp in an adjacent room and it’s still ridiculously loud. I can’t believe the Beatles used them as their back line and didn’t experience a loss of their hearing

Is AC30 ok with lower volumes. I can do bright easily with it and with Master Volume breaking/distorion sounds with lower volumes?
Extremely foolhardy to remove the backboard. The vents are perfectly adequate for heat release.
@@kenichi407 There are immediate deadly voltages inside a tube amp (like 500V+ DC). And these voltages can remain on there for a long time even if the amp is turned off and unplugged due to the capacitors.
Its utterly moronic to expose yourself to an electric shock doing that
I do understand the risks, but when I'm playing and I have the backboard on, my plate where the dials are get very warm. which I don't like, but If I take off the backboard, there is no heat on the dials, plus its a little heater. But I'm aware of the risks behind that backboard.
sakamuras s In any given situation a manufacturer has a duty of care to reduce risks to as low as is reasonably practicable.
Hollow bodys feedback too much. Try Les Paul custom
I do have a Les Paul, but I thought I’d do the video with my white falcon. But yes. Definitely feedbacks a lot. The whole guitar shakes.
great..
God forbid it starts a fire
It’s completely fine. I have the back off. It gets rid a lot of heat. I was thinking of installing a 12v exhaust fan. But no backplate is doing a great job.
Could you get that same cranked sound but at lower volume with an attenuator? or would the attenuator change the harmonics?
In general, tube amplifiers have this same distorted sound even at lower volumes ... so I believe so
Dolly ッ oh ok that’s what I’m hoping for. Thanks for the info!
@@louierubio I hope I helped because I don't know much about VOX amplifiers ... Good luck to you!
@@doliiii Hopefully we'll find out soon and I'll report back haha
I run an ac30 with the Tone King Ironman mini attenuator with fantastic results! Highly recommend the iron man if you’re looking to ease the volume of a cranked vox
How come all guitar demos are in the shorts with the bare feet? Why?
For me, wearing socks whilst holding electronics. I’ve had experiences that creates static and shocks me. Especially having that amp with no back on. It’s dangerous. So o had to wear bare foot.
Hillarious....lol...
Thanks mate.
I dimed one in a studio once . no ear protection. That was silly. Ridiculously loud.
Woah, bloody loud aren’t they hahah. Get subscribed for more videos.
Does it go any louder? Enquiring minds would like to know?
It’s 125db. It’s pretty loud. On video it sounds like not loud. Because the iPhone microphone dims down to stop earrape. Otherwise you wouldn’t be able to hear it properly.
@@jesseyparente8244 I was just joking!
These amps have been measured at 124 decibels when going at full tilt. You pushed the volume of nearby gunfire in your living room
Hahahah! I had to try it and I can definitely say it’s extremely loud.
Classic quote Shit the neighbours. I have the vox ac30 cc2x with blue celestions and I can't go beyond 1 on volume. It's loud
It sure is. They’re amazing amps.
If you don't remove the backboard it gets really hot and is that bad for the amp ? Can the heat damage it ? Thanks
@@jesseyparente8244 cool, thanks :D
Dissipate heat ..love ac30s
Can i use this amp in my room? My friend told me you can not use this in the home...because it's sound is very loud even on volum 1..please let me know
Too bad you didn’t have a SPL meter, because these things go to at least 120dB. I use a 40 ft cable, stand in a walled stairwell with the amp in an adjacent room and it’s still ridiculously loud. I can’t believe the Beatles used them as their back line and didn’t experience a loss of their hearing
Hi Bob, interesting. Yes it is bloody loud. Stay tuned of a Plexi video.
That’s amazing!
I couldn't hear anything because my own AC30 has rendered me deaf.
It’s a great loud. I love these amps. Get subscribed for more videos.
