  • Hi everyone today we are going to be checking out how loud is a VOX AC30. Now by playing this video. I’ve realise my iPhone has turned down the volume to make the speakers over power with volume. But from me talking then turning the volume up. You can sort of notice you can’t hear me haha. Anyways enjoy! This isn’t edited. everything is raw video and audio.

    I've got a 64 non top boost and its extremely loud.I live in a modern timber framed house which literally shakes,the heating system sings/vibrates throughout the house,its mental!!I played it in the garden,warned the neighbor's,thought everything was fine until we found 3 large patio windows had lost their double glze seal,they now fog up in the winter!!

    It is awesome how controlled the breakup sounds at max volume. It does not have that typical tube-saturated sound that other amps have. I find some amps go into fuzz territory when up too loud. Ac30 does not do that.

    • @jesseyparente8244
      @jesseyparente8244  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What the Vox guys very cleverly did, which is take off all of the negative feedback, so you get a curve and then gradually goes into distortion, and it’s the gradual curve which is the sound a lot of people are looking for. That’s what makes Vox a Vox.

      Filtertrons are awesome. People tend to overlook them in the context of louder music because they're pretty low output but they have a unique tone that you don't hear often since Gretsch's aren't super mainstream.

    I had one of the British made reissues from 2000. Never got to hear it overdriven. I turned it all the way up once and it was blisteringly loud but it was pretty clean even at that volume and there was no way I could have tried hitting the strings hard to get breakup without someone on the block calling the cops. Mine had one Greenback and one blue alnico, so maybe that’s why it had more headroom, I don’t know. Anyway it was a great sounding high headroom clean, but because it wouldn’t breakup, and all my overdrive pedals sounded terrible through it (a quick online research told me that it’s a common problem to find drive pedals that AC30s like) , so I ended up selling it.

    Awesome demo! Technical question- 2 alnico blue speakers each 15 watts. 30 watt dimed tube amp. How do these speakers not blow? I know 15+15=30, but overdriven tube amps decibels typically exceed their rated wattage,people usually recommend you have double the speaker wattage vs amp wattage to be safe. Is it because the AC 30 takes out all the lower bass?

    Awesome Dude... I have the same Amp and renting the basement apartment in a house... Landlord upstairs. My volume is barely cracked open. AC30C2 is way too much for residential. Awesome rig though. Thanks for sharing this with us... pushing the AC30C2 to the max... 😎👍
    Question.... do you get any sound out of the Amp with the Standby switch 'off' ? I noticed yours was in the 'on' position. If I turn my Standby 'off' then no sound... odd that. Is there something wrong with my Amp ? EDIT: Wait a second here... I was looking at it all wrong... 'On' is on... 'Standby' is standby... Crap, all this time I thought to have the Amp in 'Standby' you had to have the switch in the 'On' position... Duh 🤓 I thought the word 'Standby' was telling you that was the standby switch. Duh... 🤓 So what does the 'HT' mean on the Standby switch ? Hot Tubes ? 🤷‍♂️ wild guess... 🙂👍
    The other night I left my Amp powered up for quite a few hours 6, 7, 8 maybe... she was just a 'Tad Toasty' 😱 Turned the Amp off when I noticed. Today I went to play for a bit, there was no sound whatsoever. Crap... DId I bugger it up by leaving it powered up for so long 😡. I checked online and the consensus was that it's doubtful that running an Amp for several hours idle would do any harm.
    I pulled the back plate off checked all the Valves to see if they were firing up. All was good there. Took a good long sniff of the circuit boards for a fried component... All good there also. Hmmm WTH 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
    i plugged in another Axe and bingo 😀👍 we have sound... it was the guitar all along. It has an intermittent volume pot, of which I totally forgot about... I'm a newb on the guitar and haven't played my electrics in a long time. A sigh of relief when I narrowed it down to the funky vol pot. 😁👍

      I'm aware of this, but the reason why I have the back plate of is the heat that goes to my dials on my plate. They get very warm, I don't play on low volume. I always crank my AC30. and there's no heat on the plate and disputes better, because the valves are very hot and they need to dispute heat quicker. but I'm aware of this :)

    • @donharrold1375
      @donharrold1375 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sakamuras s In any given situation a manufacturer has a duty of care to reduce risks to as low as is reasonably practicable. A toaster or an electric fire simply won’t work without exposed live elements. Toaster manufacturers practicably can't eliminate the risk that some idiot might try to stick a knife in the toaster when its elements are live. Amplifiers in contrast work perfectly well without having their circuit boards exposed. Removing a device designed to prevent electric shocks is very unwise. Amplifiers operate at relatively high voltage and shocks are invariably fatal. I'm being direct here because I want this young fella to avoid a horrible accident.
