The thing is there hasn’t been a classic Giant Man in 20+ years. If you’re trying to do a Classic Avengers display, it’s a must have. If you’re a big fan of Marvel Zombies, Giant Man was easily one of the biggest antagonists of that series. I do wish that this Giant Man Haslab at least came with a 6 inch version of himself.

    • @KuroiNeko05

    • @WiGgYof09

If the tiers were 6 inch figures, the cost would like be 250. I'm fine getting this at 200 and the figure that would have been tiers can be done separately.
I hope they announce a wave of figures to support the project in the way they announced the fantastic 4 retro wave of the house of x wave.

I wonder how many more backers this would have generated if they put the 6 inch Giant Man and/or the Wasp out before the Haslab was announced? I mean, we would have already had those figures BEFORE and I know that would have compelled other collectors to back this.

Blows my mind how much your photoshop elevates the figure.
You're absolutely right, that at $200 for a 24" figure is good enough and he's done well enough that I'll back it, but that's mostly because this might be the last decent chance to get a Giant Man that's larger than 6". Even still, they're already got to build this from scratch anyway and it doesn't cost them any more to do it right, so I wish they just got it more right.
To me, this basically looks like a 24" Vulcan.

Damn... People saying you complain too much about the anatomy of the figures, I call bullshit. The way you show your point in this video makes it look INFINITELY better. It's crazy how better it looks in the adjusted version! That's why proportions and anatomy is so important, it's not a small detail. It's an essential detail.
I really like the textured details and black shading on the figure tho. But those hands are just ginormous. Like... Objectively.

  • @tomtudorweaver1078
    @tomtudorweaver1078 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I don't do Haslabs. Out of my budget range, not enough space for them, and honestly I'd be hard pressed to think of a character I like enough to spend that much on a figure of them, and if I did I think I'd be more concerned about maintaining it than just enjoying it as part of my collection. It is always interesting hearing the discussion though.
For me I don't see any appeal in the extra tier heads. To me they should be something that can accompany the figure, that they can interact with, not a replacement piece that isn't really useful or appealing outside of that which people will throw in a box. I'm sure they have their fans but we've had so few zombie characters or Skrull characters, another smaller figure of some form I think would've been better, heck throw in that weird first form Ultron where he's a big tube, that'd be unique and isn't highly sought after.
Also the regular alternate heads look a little disturbing to me, the smiling and angry head both look a little crazed rather than happy or angry, not necessarily a negative just what I get out of it.
As always your renders are impressive, but especially here. It really shows just how thin and slouchy the original, and to an extent most other Marvel Legends are. From the side they look like a pancake and from the front it looks like they're slightly bobble-headed and drooping their overly small shoulders. Adjusting those things I think would to a lot.
For me I've hit burnout with Marvel Legends, I've picked up just four this year, a lot less than last year, and I'm just tired of seeing more of the same with just a new head in a lot of cases. McFarlane have their faults but I feel like there's a little more character to some of their sculpts at least, and they're more affordable.

The price is fair imo, but the issues with the anatomy specially the small shoulders is so much more apparent on this figure but it's to be seen how the material for the mask holds up as the face plates slide underneath it. The adjusted proportions showed how much better this could look😮

I’m not super turned off by the price, I believe anything between 130 and 200 would’ve been acceptable for the size, but as you said, no accessories is kind of a turn off, especially for it being a giant Marvel Legends with just an extra normals layer of cloth texture. Easy accessory idea: a crushed Ultron-Sentry bot, easily retool any of their Ultron molds into a mashed potato and there you go. That would’ve been actually cool enough to consider a purchase.
Another thing that turns me off, is just the sheer size, idk about you guys but my 6inch display ain’t that tall. Would feel really weird to have him in a crouching position behind the rest of the Avengers. I learned the hard way that space is a very important factor when I got Galactus and a 20 inch Optimus Prime. Very expensive purchases that I just ended up leaving in the box since I don’t have room for them.
Yes, room can be arranged… but that’s an extra, more significant expense that would involve rearranging my whole collection… which is time I don’t have… bla bla bla, I’m sure some of you will sympathize with me.

We need to stop calling these a crowd fund. They've already got a prototype to photo, so they've done the tooling, this is a pre-order with a MOQ. They're using the term "crowdfund" as a hype tool, that's why they don't understand how to do stretch goals, because they don't fundamentally understand what they're using. It's buzzwords.
And they don't need it. Mattel does all kinds of vehicles, large characters, etc, at retail, for a reasonable cost, Hasbro child if they wanted. They don't want to. They'd rather rape you directly, because then they keep all the profits. In the case of these corporate crowd funds, Walmart, Target, these places are actually our friends because they negotiate prices and establish MOQs for us. The retreat from retail into a direct to consumer model for Mattel and Hasbro means they get a much more predatory posture towards our wallets.
    Watch out for your cornholes.

  • @mantistoboggan7228

It's not worth $200.00. $150.00 would be more appropriate. That aside, it just shows there's no reason to have a crowdfunding kickstarter scheme for a company like Hasblo, which is a multibillion dollar corporation. Far as additional figures go, people are saying more figures would increase the price. But hasbo has been saying all along that the BASE figure is really what you're paying for, so figures don't matter. No, we didn't want figures locked behind their pay gate, but for this one he should have at least had a 6" accompanying figure.

I still think the best crowdfunding project by far has been the Spawn one. The articulation on that thing isn't that great but at least Todd kept adding extra stuff and it actually feels like a collectible.
With Giant Man Hasbro just said "Fk it, this is all you get" lol.
I think the price is kinda fair, the Toy Biz goes for about $200-$300, at least in my country.
This is definitely a nice upgrade from that one, but heck, it could be way better.
I asked on twitter if they were lying about the amount of articulation and then realized the same thing you said: They are counting every swiveling and hinging part to reach that number.
I don't know if that's the way to count articulation or not because the DC Multiverse figures are advertised as having 21 points and if we count then the same way Hasbro does with Giant Man these end up with more than 30 points. it's kind of a scumbag move from Hasbro.
It's decent enough but it could look better, at least it's way better than the car.

I have no dog in this fight as I couldn't care less about HasLabs, but it seems to me that Hasbro has already done better this time around as the discussion is centered more on the merits of the product as opposed to the price. With the car before, it was pretty evident that Hasbro was baking the cost of the tiers into the upfront cost because it was exceptionally difficult to go out and find a comparable product that was in the neighborhood of that price point. With this one, a 200 dollar two foot figure is not egregious. Mondo charges more than that for quarter scale figures. They also come with a ton of accessories and are loaded with paint, but still, it's at least comparable and I'm guessing most think Mondo's prices are too high anyway. With this one, it's at least conceivable the tiers are added profit being reinvested, though it's probably not 100%. It's certainly a point of discussion on if they're any good, but again, then you're discussing the more subjective merits of the product. I'm guessing if you're into Marvel Legends and wanted a 2 foot tall Giant Man to replace that old Toy Biz one then you're probably excited to get this and you'll probably be content when it comes out.

One thing that is tough is that it has to fit in with the existing line, so they can't NECA level paint it, or even Hot Toys level paint it, it will outshine and not match the look of the line. I don't think they can can re-engineer a whole body much past the existing line for the same reasons. That being said, they could've tweaked a few more things and more enhanced the existing articulation engineering, and found a way to add paint and details and not have it too far surpass the normal ML line. It seems in toy production sculpt and basic engineering is a single point cost, where paint depends more on people and very precise manufacturing. Hot Toys is often priced based higher on items that require more paint, and also more of everything else too. I hope it has the face paint of Modok (along with some of its body paint), along with a complete set of detail painting, and I hope the body moves well, the legs come together and arms can go it its side as well as move well, hold well, and not be too fidgeting to play with. I think Galactus was improved play over the sentinel and hopefully they continue to refine it. Thanks for your assessment AC

Can’t see how it scales to 200 dollars. What 4 times the size of an average marvel legends which rotating finger joints and no accessories except one or two faceplates. No chance

Man what a gold mine marvel legends became! Is there any toy line with as many different figures? And the basically use the same body bucks over and over!

  • @orion5748
    @orion5748 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think closer to 150 is fair only problem is its nothing crazy really and the fact that they added stupid faceplates as extra tiers like they couldve added those to the regular set and add figures to the tiers as those make the tiers really exciting and has more incentive and feels more worth it and ofc they could also offer the figures sold separately down the line they took the wrong lesson from the ghost rider haslab

your photoshop version is way better, good job. I am a bit concerned about changing the faceplates: you have to slip it in under his mask? that might get very loose in the long run

I’m sure others have already said it better; it’s a campaign improvement but still highway robbery considering we got an 18” Galactus with lights and sounds for $50 retail in 2010-that’s comparable to price increases in real estate and fuel, but not realistic for “crowdfunding” projects that are honestly being mass produced.

I think it is a great and simple straight forward offering. I am only passing because I don't care about the character. So it wouldn't matter about the tiers either. I think his articulation is awesome especially for action figure photographers and dynamic displays. I can see someone making him crouching down enough to be punching a villain through the ground. I hope it backs but I'll be skipping this one.

Huge missed opportunity not including a 6" or smaller figure with some kind of transforming effect like the one that came with the $10 basic Antman figure from Endgame. That said I'm in no rush, we'll see how my wallet is feeling in 40 days. I'm waiting for all the classic Avengers at Target to go on clearance.

The fact they put so much effort into the hand’s articulation but didn’t think of cutting into the the neck and putting on a ball peg in where the neck connects to the collarbone/shoulder is kinda funny. Its the standard in so many other companies that they could have easily try to engineer it here on such a big figure

  • @clivezilla05

I agree. I don't even think Giant-man is Haslab worthy. They just wanted an easy win. Giant-man is so basic this shouldve been a standard release at any height and pricepoint they want. This doesn't require crowdfunding.
Hasbro has $180 Transformers retailing at Walmarts right now. It doesn't make any sense to ask for crowdfunding for a Giant-man that doesn't even have groundbreaking technology.
Lego have plenty of legos retailing at more than the $200 price point.

If I'm going to be honest I feel like a $100-$150 for the this figure would be reasonable enough, that's just me. Giant man figure is cool and all, but how many people out are fans of Giant-Man. I can see a handful of people buying this for their Avengers display, and a few more buying it's just to buy it. I don't get what hospital just doesn't release it as an avengers build a figure set for $150.

You always make great points Anthony, and I always appreciate your perspective on how Marvel Legends are made!!🤨😁😏Or are oddly utterly disappointing as a whole!!😑 They make weird as decisions and the results are just as messy as the final product!!🙄The lack of paint is just lazy and always makes the figure/figures look way cheaper than what they charge!!😒At this point Hasbro never surprises me less!!😒So yet again I find myself questioning whether they are worth purchasing or not!? And yeah the result most of the time is nooo way is that worth it forget you Hasbro!!😒Not this time or on a clearance not interested!!👎You have saved me money on Marvel Legends and I am always grateful for that!!😁👍Thanks again great review Giant Man, ain't a character I care about but even so great review👏👏👏😁👍👍

i think his sculpt details look super good. Do feel the uncanny valley face but doesnt bother me much. Not having accessories (fire hydrant or stuff like that, a car is way to big to keep in scale, dudes giant but not that giant) hurts
I'm good with the price, I think it's a super reasonable campaign and a fair offering. Dont know if i'll get him though. Where do people put these giant dudes? Difficult to find the space for him, especially as the colection is ever expanding

Greetings, and I'm sorry for not write my opinion in English.. but a I'm short in time and I want to say everything I think.

to be honest, I love these deranged faceplates, Hank was known for not being a boyscout, he's a psycho most of the time, also he doesn't look like Cap America or Cyclops, he looks lanky, so having a buffed-up body doesn't go well with Hank, I will say that this one's a great figure, sadly paywalled through that awful HasLab model that doesn't even consider international shipping, this one's reaching $550 bucks for other countries counting double shipping and customs.

I have no interest in Giant-Man, so an easy pass for me- BUT if they want to charge $200 for this figure, then they better make the changes that you have suggested. Give us a an actual suerper hero figure than a cosplayer. With those changes, it makes the $200 more easier to swallow BUT knowing Hasbro, watch them omit the paint in the back. It's not worth the gamble of spending $200 on a figure that they may botch at the end of the day.
