Gears of War 3 was nice because it had a little bit for everyone, between bouncing and roadie strafing, good assault rifles and shotguns. And when you mastered all of it, it comes together so nice. All without oversaturating the game at the same time.

The lancer is strong but we also had tapfire hammerburst tactics and the retro for choice but the gnasher had absurd range in 3.
