That's funny, I think that Syzygy is the best improvement to EH yet. They tied the AO awakening to the omen track, and separated it from the doom track. Think about the benefits of that. No longer will the AO awaken after your game is a lost cause. Now you can control the board and wait for the end game, sudden death is an opportunity for success, not just an additional punishment. There was intelliegence behind this change and imo should be highlighted.
So, I have the base game showing up in a couple days. While I'm obviously waiting to make sure I enjoy that before expanding it - I'm still researching ahead of time to see what expansions to keep an eye on. So, at this point in the product's lifespan: what expansions would you recommend above the others?
Hey. I wanted to ask if you need the mountains of madness expansion to use/play the focus actions/points in this expansion. I plan to buy this (when its released in german) but do not plan to buy the big expanisons so far.
Good review, discussing what you like and what you don't like. Hearing the negatives are sometimes more helpful for me when it comes to deciding to buy or not.
I love Eldritch Horror but wonder if the ever expanding.....uh expansions are going to lead to the 'Arkham Situation' where the decks become so big and the game grinds to a halt as it becomes TOO expanded.
+Alan Polak I understand that hesitation, but so far it's really not an issue. Much of the expansion content is easily mixed in with the base game and each other, and you never have to separate them again (encounter cards, mythos cards, investigators, etc.). The only really modular things are the Great Old One themselves and extra baggage they bring (regardless of expansions, you have to do this anyways), and the extra Antarctic board from Mountains of Madness, which is surprisingly easy to integrate.
So it's pronounced 'MYTH-os", like (m-I-th), not 'ME-thos', with the 'e' sound. I know, knit-picky but it's annoying to hear. (annoying, like this post hehe ) Thanks for the review!

nope
You can just add focus tokens to the base game, my group uses beach glass.
Thorough and informative review, Nick.
Eva, er, ZOEY is my favorite investigator in this set ;)
Omg a Dunwich Horror expainsion would be amazing

How would a healthy variety of encounters bring the game to a halt?
its not like you add all the modular stuff like the extra game boards all at once. it depends on the ancient one and prelude set up.
Do you also say "meethology" or "meethic"? Because that isn't how you pronounce "myth".
