  • What do you know about how the law sees domestic violence? What about in other countries? Do you think domestic violence is a public or private issue, or something in between? This talk explores how we stand on domestic violence, and what we can do to get to improve it.
David Richards is an Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut,
with appointments in both the Department of Political Science
and the Human Rights Institute. He currently serves as Director
of Graduate Studies at the Human Rights Institute. His work focuses
on human rights, and has appeared in a variety of journals and books.
These published works include studies of gender-violence law, the
measurement of government respect for human rights, public support
for torture, economic globalization, and national elections, among others.
His current book, Violence Against Women and the Law, is coauthored
with Jillienne Haglund and uses original data from about 196
countries to examine gender-violence laws globally.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I certainly didn’t have an understanding until I experienced it myself!
    I get it now.
    Yes, thankfully completely out.

if we are equal then gender should not matter, especially to "blind" justice..

Good research. You could take it further and get into the why and what we can do about it.

@LifeVisionInvestments I don't think there is a simple answer, and what they are doing isn't working obviously, we need to dig deeper, ask more questions and keep researching imho

@daughterofgodwarriorofchrist17 I believe it is focused on the problem and not the solution. The cycle repeats.
I have written a book giving tools to stop the cycle quicker and reframe trauma to create a better lifestyle for themselves and their children.
      What is your story 🤔

@LifeVisionInvestments oh that's cool, I was in a abusive marriage for 22 years, verbal abuse etc, not physical abuse. I tried shelter, police, they didnt help. I had no way out until he let me go, I did a lot of praying and growing, standing up for myself and helping him grow to the point he finally let me go. I know all that is not possible for everyone though. I'm 2 years free now

Wanna hear some BS? Check out - “Her husband cut off her hands, now she wants tougher laws in Russia” and you’ll hear some anti Anti-abuse sentiment. Some there don’t want tougher Anti-abuse laws because they say it conflicts with “traditional Russian values”. (Yes, you read that right!!)

Please call an abuse helpline, that can point you in the right direction to getting help.
You sound like you really need some advice personal to your situation; with a view to finding assistance available to you ,in your area.
You could speak anonymously to an Organisation like the ‘Samaritans’ first , if that helps you make the first step. 🫶
