    What taught me the most was seeing the whole process!!! The cleaning the brush the dipping in clean water then mixing then painting then dabbing off excess color before cleaning again. Each step so VERY important.

    Ceecee, you are such a wonderful teacher. It’s amazing how many colors can be made by mixing and/or diluting with water. It’s time consuming but a great way to learn about color and as you pointed out practicing brush strokes. Your doodles make it look so pretty too! I keep a couple of color art journals where I swatch out all my colors by brand leaving space for adding new colors. I swatch out watercolor, acrylic paint/inks, paint markers, alcohol inks and my neocolor II Caran D’Ache. This also helps when I order supplies to make sure I that I don’t already have a particular color. Thank you!

    I am thankful that you did not keep this a secret! I get weary of videos of swatching pallets.... not that I do not find them useful but expensive! If only I had this color or that color... I love them all, but there is hardly a dent in some of the tubes. But to find out how versatile a pigment is gives me joy beyond the collection. Again, thank you!
    Comfort and joy,
    Debs in Everett, Washington... who paints prayer cards and was in need of new ideas when I came across your brilliant Advent doodle book. That works! But while looking at what else you do, I found this. Happy happy!

    • @LavenderDebs
      @LavenderDebs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      OH, color mixes.... One I fell unexpectedly in lust with is a Paynes Gray wash (I know, sleeper) with splashes of Emerald Green (I never use this green, not sure why I stuck it in), a wee bit of Prussian blue and turquoise (another surprise). Usually there is a big glowing yellow/orange-yellow moon or a kind trio of pumpkins dominating the page. It feels like northern lights.
      Debs in Everett again... who does know why emerald gets used in our gray colorless PNW winters, we are starving for color!

Now, you’ve reminded me how much I want to make a pocket doodler book AND Use it to understand my new pigments. ☺️

    Great video, CeeCee! I am very new to watercoloring and have learned so much from you over the last few months. I am flying to our house in Florida in a couple of hours. Usually I pack a lot of supplies to make scrapbook pages and/or cards. But this time I am only bringing paints, paint brushes & supplies so I can 'practice' watercoloring and I will be watching as many of your videos as I can. This color mixing chart is perfect!!! Perfect timing!! Thank you for sharing and being such an inspiration (and funny, too)!! xx

    You are SO right! I've just completed a colour mixing chart of my 23 colours. It took HOURS, but now I have my bible. Left to do would be a value chart. But I think I'll just do that over time as I use them. It saves a lot of frustration in finding 'that colour' that you want. Now, instead of having 23 colours, I have 529! In mixing them, I used varying proportions, not just 50-50. For instance, in mixing UM blue and burnt umber, one sample had more UM blue, and the other more burnt umber.

    Very informative and relaxing! I am very new to watercolor. I inherited a small set of Cotmans, but find mixing to be overwhelming. I bought a few half pans of other colors and I do love them...but I've been lax in practice. I took some of my stamps and used then with waterproof ink on some watercolor paper to get started because I freeze with a blank page. I am sticking with the student grade paints right now until I figure if I will really get into watercolor to make the investment of more expensive paints. I learned a lot watching this, and even better this looks like fun. thank you for sharing!

    Hi CeeCee! What a lovely and inspiring video :-) I have a question...the way you put down your rectangular swatches & circles (some horizontal, some vertical, force example...is that helping remind you what color was mixed with what other color? It it helping you to re-mix that color again later? Or are you just laying it down in a way that pleases you? Thank you!
