    Unfortunately, in Egypt, we're treated like animals because we're gay. I hope one day to be free and get out of Egypt.😭😭😞 I wish someone would help me get out of Egypt 😔

    • @KevenTalks
      @KevenTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I hope you find the freedom you long for! But just want to point out that even in the US where I'm "free" as a gay person, it's not as fun or magical as it may seem. I met a very special boy in Egypt who I still think of all the time...you never know who's around you who could change your life for the better :) From my videos you'll see I've travelled all over, chasing a fantasy of the "perfect gay city" but it really doesn't exist. Of course, it's much harder to be gay in certain places, but my point is - you can make an excellent life anywhere - a lot of it comes down to opening your eyes, mind, & spirit - and serendipity reaching you along the way 😘

      I totally get you and your feeling. I see so many people forced to live in the shadows, always having to be careful what you do, what you say and to who. Being gay as far as I know is not a crime by law in Egypt, but that does not mean that it's not frown upon either or like they don't use other laws to persecute gays. Not to mention the risk of being seen and "punished" by anyone on the street. On the other end I know that unfortunately life for gay people, or LGBTQIA people is not easy also in many western countries, Italy included (where I am from).

    I used to walk home from collage with my friend arm in arm almost everyday, .... hand in hand exists but rare and you might get a stare but nothing more
    ... arm around each other or on the shoulder of each other are very common, sometimes while arm on the shoulder, you touch the neck "speaking for myself anyway, I do that a lot" 😂😂😂😂
    okey, the description would definetily go for me, because my friend is really masculine 😂, and I'm the one who show more sympathy toward the other when we speak 🤔😂

    To me Egypt and especially Morocco are places where there is more homosexual behavior than any other place on earth. So of course your Grindr app exploded. In many Muslim countries women are sacred, so when men are young they experiment among eachother (read the kiterunner). When I was in Morocco, I felt like I could have had 4/5 guys when I would walk around with little clothes on I got stares from top to bottom. The only down side is that you have to always be the bottom...

    hello! this reply is 2 years later so im not sure if it'll be seen but I'll just place it here. it's quite lengthy but i still wanna share it
    I'm an Egyptian, bi teenager and you can say I'm nonbinary (assigned female at birth) and I live in cairo
    i came here thinking it was an Egyptian talking about gay dating in Egypt but although you're not egyptian i can pretty much say you're accurate in like everything. (unfortunately) it's like this generally here
    however, I've noticed that although it's really hard to be lgbt+ in egypt, it's really nice to see that the younger generations are starting to be more accepting. gen z, and some millennials, are the generations in which lgbt+ acceptance is starting to get better in (of course not fully)
    For my generation, aka anyone in their teens rn, it's basically impossible to find parents that will be accepting if you're lgbt+. friends? mostly no too, but there's a possibility. i have a lotttt of Egyptian online friends which are either lgbt themselves, or are cishet but supportive of the community and I'm very comfortable with all of them. in this time lgbt people are getting more comfortable with having online communities on social media (personally I'm on twitter) it's mostly people who don't show their accounts to their irls. but they can show their faces and just have a fun time normally while also not hiding they're lgbt. I'm also lucky enough to have an irl best friend & a neighbor, and although she was raised in a very strict, conservative and even abusive, limiting environment, she still is pretty openminded and genuinely good and is the only person who i came out to (irl, not online)
    so in short, lgbt people are definitely forced to live in the closet especially with people who have access to them irl, but online there's more space and people can be themselves there if they find they're secure. also we have a trans woman lgbt activist who has an account on Facebook and Twitter and she's really good

    Nice video Kev. I was in Morocco in 2018 and I can relate to your sentiment of feeling uncomfortable and generally wary of your surroundings. Gay men can be easy prey especially if a hook up is involved and the other guy demands money, so that is something to also be aware of. I also think in these types of countries there can be a set of rules for tourists and another for locals. I think the authorities would generally be far harsher on locals than tourists but it’s never that clear cut so always best to exercise caution!

  • @jasonlk9472
    @jasonlk9472 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Meeting someone in the public space cannot necessarily help someone. I mean that if someone wants to harm you, he will harm you. So, you meet someone in public, he makes you feel he is ok and trust him and when you go to his house he harms you. Of course, meeting someone in person in a public space helps a lot to see if there is chemistry or if he looks weird, but I don't think it can make you totally be sure that the other person is ok.

    • @KevenTalks
      @KevenTalks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's always a risk with meeting someone for the first time. Same can happen meeting someone at a bar. I have a friend who met a guy at a convenience store - as innocent as possible, right? And that guy, after a few weeks of dating, ended up stealing some of her belongings. So yes, there's always a risk. But meeting the person in public is a good way to at least decrease that risk.

    As you say being gay is not kosher. I have several gay friends from northern africa. Jup living in a closet is normal, normally being married with the opposite sex. If you have sex on the side, no one cares. So it's kind of a macho culture, which you to some extends also can find in the Balkan countries of Europe. Still there are gays who try to become a couple (which is close to impossible)
    Normally as one from the west you wouldn't get big problems except a fine
