Your care factor for our Mother Nature is abundant and I say thank you for caring and contributing towards its protection and documenting this for those that will probably never get to visit such locations. Safe sailing 👏❤️⛵️🌊
Thanks for you kind words my friend! It’s an important message and a privilege to be able to experience the significance of the reef and share it with others. Cheers, Josh
Great video! What a fantastic weather window you had for the reefs - whenever it is like that, make the most of it! Keep in mind a lot of the reef damage in those areas is from cyclones too, you will find spots away from recent (last 10-15 years) cyclone paths are much more vibrant - luck of the draw a bit. As is anchoring on reefs, you will inevitably snag at some stage like you did - what you did is the best way to get free (other than a good SCUBA diver!). Let the chain go slack, pull it in again, manoeuvre one way or another and use the weight of the boat and momentum to pull free if you can - just put the load on a cleat not the anchor winch when you do this.
Hello my friend! Yeah we really lucked out having it in the middle of Jacks visit which worked perfectly to reef hop north towards Townsville. That’s a great point about the cyclone related damage, we have seen the lasting affect it has had in industry with all the closed/ abandoned resorts. Really hoping we can get out to see the best of the GBR in our second season. A dive course is definitely on the wish list for us, being able to spend that amount of time underwater and focus on the micro rather than macro environment is a real dream. Cheers for your unsnagging tips, I’ll be more selective for anchoring depths where possible in the future. Your friend, Josh
Thank you thank you thank you!! I got a nice dose of New Kids today. It could always be longer, cuz I like it. Does that make me a glutton? Love the spirit you bring with you. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Hey Steve! Glad you got your dose, sorry it’s been a minute between them. At least you’re consuming something positive that’s good for you, I say if it serves you keep doing it😁 Appreciate your kind words as always, cheers Josh
Love having you back again. Great (animatory) is that even a real word... Animations...work Josh. Probably showing my ignorance here, but would a "Fisherman's" Anchor have been better around the reefs. There's less risk of damage to the coral. Allegedly.?? Thank you both for sharing. Loving your channel. Take care.
Hey Bryan, cheers for the love as always mate! Looking forward to creating more fun things to put in the videos in future. Not sure on the fisherman’s anchor but will look into it. I think in future we will scope out satellite imagery to find a better spot to anchor prior to heading out. Cheers mate! Josh
30 meters is a bit deep to put all that chain out. The weight of 100 vertical feet of chain might kill your windlass. With excellent visibility, Josh might want to follow the chain down as deep as he’s able to determine what the anchor is hung up on. If the problem is the chain wrapped around a coral head because the boat had been just drifting with no strain on the hook, you can do a lot of damage to the living coral. You’re better off trying to determine what’s going on than using the brut force of your engine. Giving some slack and a swing to port or starboard might be all you need. At any rate, thanks again for the peep into your lives. Cheers.
Hey Jonathan, too right mate. The stress was high (which is where I went wrong first) in future in follow a procedure like that and avoid anchoring at such depths to begin with. Appreciate your advice mate! Glad you enjoyed the video my friend Cheers, Josh
I'm a commercial fisherman. The way we get them on hung is to make a large circle wide circle around your anchor while the chain is tight and if it doesn't come loose Volume One direction go the other it will come out. Very wide circles.
Hi Phoebe and Jack. I’m David, the one who met you at Tin Can Bay. What a great video and your incredible experience. I will follow up your wonderful journey to come❤
WOW…awesome underwater shots! What camera are you using cos you’re nailing it! Music is everything and you’ve paired your backing track beautifully. Was super excited when you dropped your vid. This vid reminds me why.
Hey thanks so much for your kind words! At the moment our setup it super basic 😆 the GoPro does well. Glad you’re enjoying the music Phoebe loves composing the sound track! Cheers, Josh
Hey great comment, we didn’t in this green zone but in another one further north we had fisherman in tinnies around us all night that had come from mainland. Josh
Sadly, even the reefs you have filmed which you describe as "vibrant" look mostly brown & dead to me. Two decades ago there would have been little or no brown, only green, blue, yellow, red & purple.
Hello my friend, I can understand what you’re saying. This is one of the reasons why we are living this lifestyle and adventure early in life rather than waiting for retirement as we have no idea what state it will be in by then. We are glad to have seen what we do and will keep searching for what you speak of, I wonder if the South Pacific still has systems as you speak of or if it’s suffering the same? Cheers, Josh
I spent some time in Fiji 20 years ago, wonderful undersea views, coral, fish and colored rocks, Downside for me was trash people had been throwing in the water. Good video, ty
Such beauty on the reefs. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Hey David, thanks for the comment!
It’s our pleasure, glad you enjoyed it mate.

Omygosh! Absolutely stunning BEAUTIFUL waters. Literally looks like a dream.

wow, what a lovely reef.. i want to go there and experience that for myself.. saving for a boat! Thanks for inspiration.
Awesome Sean! It’s worth all the dedication and hard work. Such an incredible experience. Looking forward to that for you.
Cheers mate!

So glad someone is filming what the reef is like "just in case", I truly hope your fears are unfounded but glad your enjoying the reef anyway 👍
Missing out on being a part of that incredible place is a risk we are NOT willing to take. So stoked to be able to share it. Cheers, Josh

Awesome advice thanks heaps for that! Will be anchoring in shallower water in future but if necessary will give your method a go. Cheers! Josh

Too right, loved Phoebes cool approach there. Cheers, Josh
Did Sonia get her run on the beach??? :)

Those long fish like gar might have been longtoms with lots of teeth or flutemouths- they often swim in pairs. Rob Fader
Hey Rob!
Fader as in wetsuits??
Definitely could have been there, is some epic large teeth fish action next episode!
Cheers, Josh
@@Thenewkidsonthedock Yes Fader wetsuits. Any fish you don't know or strange behavior send a message and ill try to answer. All looks great.
While you were in the green zone, did you see any overseas fishermen visit at night?
Hey great comment, we didn’t in this green zone but in another one further north we had fisherman in tinnies around us all night that had come from mainland.
Josh
Wet suit just took away the best part(s) of the channel...
I get that, but until we're sailing in the tropics, I''ll be wearing a wetty 😂 It's too cold otherwise! haha
😀
😁😁
cool
😁😁😁 cheers mate!

Nice one! 😁
@NewKidsOnTheDock maybe wearing bootys could help with the fins Phoebe
I do have booties! I was wearing them on the dive. Unfortunately the whole fin is tight around the width of my foot :(
