Grant Hill was a very good player, but why do some people act like he got injured at 22 or 23? We saw Grant Hill at 24, 25, 26, 27.
The vast majority of players have already shown us how good they can be at least from a statistical standpoint by 26 or 27, they can improve in some other area and fine tune parts of their game, but usually are settling into situations where they have better teams and their stats might even go down. If you don't think 25, 26 and 27 year old Hill was (for example) Kobe's level, then it's not possible for you to think he would have been as good as Kobe.

Him and Penny man...saddest stories in the past 40 years. There's a reason Jordan anointed them as his direct predecessor. They both had the ability on the court and the ability to market themselves as the face of the league. Both are super important to the trajectory of basketball.

Grant hill is stupidly amazing in 2k for some reason. Probably the only conscious thing 2k has done for a player.
That’s good because 2k ratings be on something sometimes. Example is that the 2016 Kyrie Irving is a 93 and in his years in the Celtics he was a 90-91 despite averaging more steals points rebounds assists and a better shooting percentage.

It’s crazy, because Stephen Curry was literally going to be a Grant Hill with the ankle injuries early on in his career but he triumphed due to the technological advancements of this day and age.
Imagine if he was healthy when he was on the Orlando Magic with T-Mac 😳. Sad that injuries shortened his prime, he was a beast.
And Penny and Shaq. Man! That would be the greatest team ever
Watched this guy play at SouthLakes Highschool and even got a chance to play against him at Nottoway Park. Amazing guy and probably the biggest what if’s in NBA history.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. Stocked up on $30 white and black Fila shoes. If Grant Hill endorses this brand, it couldn't be that bad.
He was something special, could do it all and do it all well. No doubt he missed out on more all star appearances and possible championships if he doesn't get injured. Such a great talent.
He was so great,the pistons had him and allan houston coulda been a great team...i remember his sprite commercials, his Fila sneakers and that game winning shot against the lakers..

Glad you finally did Grant Hill. I remember him well pre injury. There was a great hype and it was more then deserved. That guy was a complete beast!. So overlooked because his total averages weren't great because he had a long injury riddled career. We only got six great seasons and then injuries started to pile up. We hand him for 13 ok seasons after that. We sometimes saw flashes of old Grant Hill in one or two seasons after the injuries but he was mainly a very good role player for most of his career. With no injuries, we would maybe be talking about top 5 all time.
This guy was my very first favorite nba player. 96-97 was my very first year watching the league and I fell in love with his game, even though detroit pistons games were hardly ever on TV lol

I remember when he fist injured his ankle. Even though I'm a lifelong Laker fan I was really looking forward to seeing him and TMac take over the Eastern conference in Orlando. Definitely one of the biggest what if stories in sports history.

You should have highlighted Grant Hill’s NASTY dunk on Alonzo Mourning! One of the best all time!!
That dunk came right after the 2 had to be separated too. Alonzo tried to rough up Hill in the paint a little bit. Nice guy Hill wasn't having it. He turned, and body slammed him on the back of his head, and stood over a surprised Zo. Very next play...

I think he would have one a couple of championships for sure, man I remember buying his shoes with fila and I wasn't even a piston fan that's how much respect and love I had for him and still do. He's still happy of fame material his stats says it all.

Some said that Grant Hill injuries don’t heal due to lack of Vitamin D, due to lack of sunlight, due to wearing shoes, playing indoors and living in northern latitudes.
He was considered a forward but had the handles and acceleration of a point guard, and was often used to create the offense.

Did Grant Hill have a SPECIFIC fall/turn of his ankle, that led to those disastrous years in Orlando, and beyond? Or, was it more of a "degenerative condition?" Some players get done in by knee problems, for example, not from "one major blowout," but some of them had a debilitating condition, that eventually caught up with them. I wasn't sure if Grant Hill got specifically injured in a particular game, and play, that sent him tumbling (relatively speaking, but using his Detroit days as the measuring stick).
I remember the buzz surrounding grant Hill before he even played a game. Then first game,opening tip, catches a lob from dumars. He woulda been a top 20 greatest player ever had he not been injured so much. Hill, hardaway, tmac...3 big what ifs!

Cunningham came pretty damn close to Hill’s rookie numbers but Hill is another beast with averages like that on high efficiency. Wonder what it would’ve been like to watch him in his prime as a part of this pistons team without being traded or injured.

Yo grant hill is still one of the greatest in my opinion and would have been a force to deal with if it wasn't for those injuries 🤦🏾♂️💯
I love this series. If he had not screwed his ankle, that duo with McGrady in Orlando would have been brutal.
he has some of the nastiest dunks ever, 2 on mourning, 1 on Mutombo, and 1 over Muerasan and like 2 other bullets.
It should be noted Grant Hill's time as a role player saw him becoming very strong in defense.

I'm very torn on whether Grant Hill should be in the Hall of Fame. Most 7 time all stars are, but I argued against his inclusion at the time. He clearly played at elite level in his Pistons years, but injuries destroyed his Magic years and while he had a nice end with the Suns, that was as a role player. Had he had Pistons level success in his Magic years he would definitely be a Hall of Famer. As that didn't work out, his Hall of Fame case comes down to just his Pistons years. Those were very good years. especially 1007 when he finished third in MVP voting,, but I'd have liked to have seen another year or two of very good basketball. My verdict is that he's a Hall of Very Gooder whose health derailed his potential but I was surprised he got in. Then again, he does have the all star nods. Talent wise he was expulsive driving to the hole at his best and an excellent passer and ball handler so he had the skill.

Oh! I nearly forgot to mention that in NBA2K21 in a 3 vs. 3 with Jordan and Iverson loosing against Hill as the best player. Was cool to let the CPU play the game and see what comes out of that game

Man, back then they loved getting to the rim. Now, it's all 3 pointers. Also, it was a time when centers played the role of challenging that, not they let players do whatever they want.
Michael had that aura off the court it was his likeability from the fans, some guys got the game but not the character.

No joke, that might actually happen. I previously agreed to do specific videos for another platform, and that was going to be the content. I've already completed a George Gervin Vs Allen Iverson video that I'm just sitting on. I guess its more like a "who's greater" or "who's higher all-time" type of video. I always thought players like Hill, Hardaway and even LBJ should have been considered the nextMagic and were mislabeled as the next Jordan. I guess marketing them that way made more since for the league.

I am a Pistons fan. I started watching in 1991 and I have yet to stop watching.
The Detroit media was calling Hill 'soft,' while they attempted to structure a team that was different in style from the Bad Boys, and allowed them to raise Hill's pay.without losing him.
With Doug Collins, the Pistons were 100-64 through two years, or the same record as Rick Carlisle. He guided the Bulls to the East Finals in 1989, and wanted Hill to control not through scoring, but rebounding. It made him aggressive. It made him focused. It guided the rest of his game.
But, Collins is a firecracker of a coach. The carnage includes Orlando Woodridge in Chicago and Kwame Brown in Washington. He's nuanced, hard-working, but he's a hard ass and he never got the Pistons out of the First Round.
Why?
Their best season? 1996-97?
The players mutinied; Otis Thorpe and Terry Mills chief among them. They wanted Collins fired. Dumars and Hill had to publicly throw their support behind him, and Collins was a hothead. He was livid.
Thorpe? Go play in Vancouver.
Mills? No free agent money.
Michael Curry who had to broker the peace? I can do it without you. Get out.
And the media went nuts. The Pistons were being run like the Corleone family, prompting head scratching moves as Collins tried to save face.
He was fired, finally, in January, 1998. But, Sund was no better. He trained Dumars, but 19 million in salary space was wasted on Christian Laettner, who would blow out his achilles during the 1999 work stoppage, Jud Buechler, another Bull making money off Jordan, and Loy Vaught! The one-time National Champion, at U of M, had spent 18 months in rehab with a serious back injury suffered while playing for the Clippers.

So, other than nostalgia, why bring this up?
Detroit is calling him "soft." He tweaks an ankle in Seattle. He's on national TV in Philly when they call it a sprained ankle. The Pistons are overusing him. Playing for a month, not a week, on a bad ankle cost him his bloody career.
This was not Hill's fault. This was the Pistons in the biggest mismanagement of a superstar I have ever seen. I love them, and I love the era after Hill. But, they screwed him up.
I think if his career wasn't ruined by injuries, we'd be comparing Lebron to him instead of Jordan, because let's be real, there's nothing to compare Jordan and Lebron on. different playstyle, different position, etc. G-Hill and lebron are both versatile small forwards, Jordan is a score first shooting guard. But trying to sell the "next jordan" is very appealing to fans.

I know this more than a year old but Grant Hill led the All Star voting on his Rookie Year not just his 2nd year. Until now, only rookie to ever start and lead the AS voting.

I still remember the shock and disappointment when he got injured. This guy was legit and expected to take MJs throne when he retired. The hype was like Hill was the second coming of Jesus... well not Jesus but at least basketball Jesus. To put it into some perspective for younger fans: And I really hope this never happens but it would be horribly disappointing to see guys like, Luka, Trae, Zion, Tatum and Morant have career altering injuries. That would still not come close to the shock as Grant Hill injuries were at the time.

Sad what happened to Hill, but other than one season where he averaged 26 ppg, he wasn't the scorer Jordan, or even Lebron was. LBJ had a few seasons with over 30 ppg, and was a consistent 27 ppg scorer while getting almost as many triple doubles. Plus, Hill had 7 years to help his team in the playoffs and kept losing in the first round. Also, he wasn't the killer Jordan or Kobe were. Great player, great high flyer, future 75 greatest if healthy, but he would have never been LBJ, Kobe, or MJ.

How many playoff series did Hill win his first 6 years? I think we just missed more first round exits.
@Xavier McDaniel The answer is zero. They lost in the 1st round as a 3 seed, twice as a 4 seed and a 5 seed. 3 times with home court in the 1st round and they lost every one. The only series Hill ever won was as a role player with the Suns.
2 years after Hill left, the Pistons started a run of 7 years where they won 16 series and made it past the 1st round every year.
