    That Drake's was nice! I've only found pieces of them so far. We just had a nice little storm come through with storm surge so I'll be hunting the river banks and little islands by kayak this winter at low tide. That where I find whole stoneware and pontiled stuff. The dumps I've dug are mainly 1890s-1910s.

    Great digging. I live in N.Z and have dug several Drakes, Warners safe cures and Dr Soules, all US bottles but most our dig's are local cods, ginger beers or UK bottles, pot lids etc. We where I live dig lots of Chinese Tiger Whiskeys, jars n pots. so lots of variety

    I have a Hunyadi Janos Bitterquelle with the paper label. I got it at a show in Cal. Or Nev. A few years ago. It has 95% of the label and goes on about the 1906 Act. I saw a lot of broken ones at my best digs 2009-10. Congrats on the great day finds. Later I'm going to Waialua, my first lifetime Hutch-Waialua Soda Works. Found ten more in Town after 2008. Then found one in Pearl Harbor, then four more here in 2016, and a buncha broken Aieas too. One reassembled amber H.I. and a rebuilt Bay View Brewing, Seattle. All whittled and nice. I need a whole one of these, having found four broken ones.

      Really man? Guess if you had been there you would have seen it was not nearly as bad as it looks. I was digging one handed and the pick was super lightweight. I've only broken two bottles by accident in 21 years of digging and that's because the soil they were in was rock hard.

      The funny thing is I have had a lot of requests to show more digging, I guess they like seeing all the work it takes, and the chance of uncovering something live in nice too. Some of the more recent bottle digging videos on youtube are 40mins to an hour long. They make mine look like mini episodes!

    I've been digging for bottles recently, I don't know if ur still checking ur comments on here, but I found several really neat bottles and I wanna keep digging, I use just a small garden shovel and cheap garden gloves.. There is a lot of sandstone in this area so the dirt is very clay and sand ish.. any suggestions for tools?

    • @RIBottleguy
      @RIBottleguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I use a large shovel to open up a hole and a long handled cultivator which has 3-4 curved prongs on the end. You can find them on Amazon but I prefer to pick up vintage ones at yard sales because they were made better. I hope that helps!

    Do you have to ask permission to dig in an old city dump? How old should it be? How do you find bottle dig sites?

    • @RIBottleguy
      @RIBottleguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you get permission either from the landowner or the excavator in city lots, otherwise you're apt to get kicked out quick!

    • @wolfedavid3700
      @wolfedavid3700 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      check the laws for your area....in s.c. there are antiquities laws and other laws...please get permission for a dig...you can bet someone owns the property...most land is posted.....

    • @babyrazor6887

      look up old maps of your area..most old towns dumped in a local creek or quarry...don't go alone your local historical society might help. If you live near philadelphia I can send you some maps. most old farm houses dumped in the creek behind the house. my old bottle hunting buddy passed away his wife put his bottle collection in an auction house and made $35,000. not too shabby for the 1990's. good luck...and I repeat..don't go out there alone and watch out for ticks

    Hey been a sub for a while never commented except maybe a Thx for Sharing! But what do you think the "Mint" Green Flask and The Blob top Green Bitters Quelle Saxlehner would go for out of my digging collection? When you made the comment about your site (I chuckled) isn't everyday you find a sight like that brother! H.H

    • @RIBottleguy
      @RIBottleguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The teal green med is worth about $15, and the Biterquelle about $2-4 (at least to me lol). I sold the teal one a while back and I don't think the Bitterquelle made it home with me.

      The common style normally sells for $75-100, this one had damage so was worth less. Still one of my favorite finds!

    • @RIBottleguy
      @RIBottleguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing fancy, usually ammonia and cut copper wire on the inside and a green scrubbing pad on the outside.

    • @JessGardner93
      @JessGardner93 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll have to try that because I can't get my bottles that clean.

    Was gonna sayu , be a bit more gentler with your digging , don't be so harsh , seen other diggers balmost pampering the soil so they don't brake items

    • @RIBottleguy
      @RIBottleguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know a lot of diggers just use a shovel and/or a pitchfork, heard many stories of bottles getting broken right in half or impaled! I can only remember two I broke by accident in 21 years, so I must be doing something right!

    I cant watch your digs- you dig like a man chopping down a tree- even when you use one hand you can still be more cautious. It wouldn't surprise me that most of the broken bottle falling were whole before you haphazardly wielded your ax . Back to the aquachigger I go.

    • @RIBottleguy
      @RIBottleguy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With all due respect you are clearly not a bottle digger. I've been digging for 18 years and my sole goal of digging is to find and recover intact glass bottles. After digging close to 10,000 bottles you get pretty darn good at it, and I have counted 5 or less bottles in the last 18 years that I have unintentionally broken. I may not look like a careful digger but I assure you I'm one of the best out there. FYI I never use and ax, pickaxe, or pitchfork. They are much more likely to break a bottle. The same is true with shovels. I only use a shovel to scoop out my tailings.

    • @gepettoe
      @gepettoe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do dig -sorry if I offended you- but we need to take the positive with the negative to become better at what we do- sun runner felt the same way two years ago. hope for the best in the future.
