I have just come across your channel. I don't often comment, but just had to say I love your channel. I am a mature lady who has just moved to Indonesia to teach, from New Zealand, and I am looking forward to a lot more solo travelling in South East Asia etc. So thank you for all the inspiration. It definitely gives me inspiration and confidence to visit some of the places you have gone to.
@@charl8051 Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Char, and I am so pleased you took the time to write. Your move to Indonesia sounds fascinating, and we wish you all the best with that. We're planning on taking shorter trips next year, as will be mindful of Lee's stomach issues and my oncologist appointments, and are thinking about spending time in Vietnam and maybe Myanmar. We'll definitely be making videos wherever we go, and we hope they're helpful to you. Sending best wishes from Lee and I 🙏🤗😍 ~ Mandy
Great to see you both turn up at unexpected destinations . You certainly clear the path for all us potential travellers and I hope you both know how much we appreciate that .
@@opagodaswirling9383 Oh, that's so lovely! Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback and compliment. We really appreciate heating from you, and knowing that our videos are helping other people travel on a budget 😁🤗🙏
This is sooo refreshing and informative to watch! If you told someone this is the maldives they'd never believe you because 99% of maldives videos are the ultra-luxurious private island resorts (which are a dream, don't get me wrong lol) but it was really nice to see this part of the country. And as a fish lover, that food looked so good
So glad you enjoyed this video. Yes it's a world away from the high end resort islands but definitely a place worth experiencing. This is where you find the real culture of the country. 👍

There's fish with everything so no surprise there. 😂😂 The 'gift' certainly does come with strings attached. Apparently China is building a submarine base on one of the remote islands but don't tell anyone because it's a secret. 😜😂
We did a quick trip to the Maldives as part of our Sri Lanka visit a few years back. Didn’t want to stay in high-priced resort so stayed in ‘el-cheepo’ Holiday Inn that we could reach by ferry directly from the airport. Ferry ride was long (~45-minutes) and rough. 🤢 Unfortunately we didn’t take time to visit Male-another traveling stumble on our part-so looking forward to your videos to see what we’ve missed. Hope you both are feeling better. 🙏🏻
Hi Lucchesse 😊 I hope your stay on the island was a good one. Male is interesting for a visit but pretty hectic with all the traffic and not the Maldives experience most people would expect. I think we'll skip it next time. Best way to avoid the expensive stay there is to arrive on an early flight so it's possible to take a local ferry the same day out to a local island. 👍😍
Thanks so much 🙏 Even though these kind of videos don't really get watched that much we really like to show the reality of a country and not just the glamorous parts. It was a fascinating place to visit. ❤️😍
Where did you fly from? With which airline? I went many years ago and stayed on a humble boat. We went to a mixture of inhabited and uninhabited islands. I think I saw a resort island in the distance. Well worth a visit. I also have a sample of the Maldivian language in my book. It's really interesting.
We flew from KL to Male with Air Asia. Quite a good flight and value for money. 👍 I heard it's nice to stay on a boat. Especially if you are diving. We loved the beaches there. 😍
@@ericak7825 We always travel with some USD cash as it's probably the world's most accepted currency in money exchanges. It's always handy to have small denomination notes, and maybe some $100s and $20s as well. We're old-school... there's no way we'd just rely on ATM cards 😁🤣
