    Back in the 1960’s I bought an LP record of marching songs by the Band and Chorus of the Bundeswehr’s 2nd Panzer Grenadier Division. This one was my favorite. So, I have known this song now for about 60 years. You could buy those records here in the United States back then. I think the title of the album was “Der große Zapfenstreich.“ It contained the Hohenfriedberger March, Erika, Der gute Kamerad, Schwarzbraun ist die Haselnuss, usw.
    Years later when I taught German in an American high school, my classes were popular with very energetic boys, who liked to sing these songs with gusto on Friday afternoons. We‘d sound very loud with good tenors and basses. Then the French teacher across the hall would slam her door shut with a bang, but the kids would keep right on singing.

      @miklosernoehazy8678 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@CarlRendar ...but isn't that to be expected with singable translation?...
      ...it can be difficult, in translating a song, poem, or even just plain written text, the intent, theory(or rather, concept) of the word or material being translated...
      ...for example, the German word "stimmung" is somewhat difficult to translate into English; no single English word is it's corollary, and even if there were, wouldn't the context of the word change depending on the sentence it is used in?...
      ... a few friends and associates of mine, some native German speakers, and some who actively study the German language, tell me that stimmung can be translated as 'mood' ...but that's not quite exactly it...
      ...and then a short conversation ensues about which string of words in English best describes what exactly 'stimmung' is trying to convey...
      ..."good times in a group at the nightlife" is one such example...
      ... according to a regular customer at a nightclub I worked at (she came to America from Germany) we might be able to consider the phrase "party peak" a fair explanation of what the word means...
      ...her friend offered that "white hot moment" might be a better explanation; that specific time to "strike while the (branding) iron is hot" -or that time when things all come together in a group endeavor or activity...
      ...in all these examples, it can be seen how 'mood' would come into it, and be associated with 'stimmung' in translation, but somehow not quite on the mark...

    Greet Lore once again for me.
    Heidi, Heido, Heida
    The woodsman and the daughter,
    They both were shooting well.

    The woodsmen shot the deer (HirschELEIN is (again^) a way to describe it as sweet. [Hirsch (Normal word for deer) -> Hirschelein (Romanticized)])
    The daughter hit the lad. (Same with Hirsch/Tochter. [Bursche (Lad) -> Bürschelein (Romanticized)])
    Deep into the young heart inside (x2)
