He did something wrong when he was writing this song, I don't want to ruin it for people because it's such a beautiful song, but since he's a Hollywood star you know how a lot them like to live dangerously. "Now that your rose is in bloom, the lights hit the gloom on the grey" if you can't connect the dots to what that really means then you'll never understand.

Accidently writing a song while getting to know your new 'device' is what happend to Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics as well: it resulted in the musical hook of 'Sweet dreams'. Annie Lennox spontaneously came up with the singing melody and the words while hearing it for the first time.

Seal is just pure class. From his voice to how he carries himself. I also love how he isnt pigeon holed into any genre. If he were american Im not sure that would be the case. Being British he was exposed to far more genres growing up. This song could be one of those big aerosmith soft rock ballads. But its Seal. and its nothing like Killer. His other classic. Both songs are still very unique.

An exemple of that is the song 'Tattooed Love Boys'. Her fabulous guitarist James Scott bluffed his way through the recording having no clue what the timesignature was. Ever thought about interviewing her Rick?

He needed to practice bouncing so he had to come up with a bunch of vocal parts to bounce, since he was alnoe and he didn't play an instrument. Fascinating! I'd buy *another* machine to figure out if I was him!! lol

  • @willrichtor

I love that his explanation mirrors David Lynch's explanation of his works. Ultimately, the meaning of any art lies in the audience that it reaches. People don't seem to understand that makes a thing so much greater, and deeper and more meaningful than the artist alone can make it. Kiss From a Rose may mean one thing to Seal, but it means a million different things to a million listeners, however subtle the differences between them may be, and if he interjected HIS meaning into the minds of the audience directly, put it out there in public domain, then he would diminish the meaning of that song for many people who would "stand corrected" on their interpretation, deferring to the artist. Not all, mind you, but many. And why would an artist ever do something to diminish their art? Art, to an artist, is like their child, and as Gibran wrote on children:
"Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you..."

There was a time when I listened to his first album every day. Amazing artist.

Yes sir Rick, as Seal so eloquently pointed out, what you do with your YT channels is important and beneficial to the industry and so many artists.
And shame on those pig headed blockers with their blinders on who fail to see that factoid.
PS: Seal is a class act...

What an amazing video! To just call up Seal. This is a classic. This is what TH-cam is made for.
Not sure why Rick would dilute his main channel by putting this on a separate channel. Maybe he has a longer video planned.

I remember when that song was out, it was overplayed, it was when MTV started to suck and go bad and it was for a terrible Batman movie, those three things together made me hate the song and I haven’t wavered from that view.
