I thought the same .... Reminded me when i can my mom and she answers w her morning face , but Rick calls and its Seal in the other side of the phone lol
@@spanqueluv9er I actually meant the response on its own. I was not even referring to Seal. I was simply referring to THAT SPECIFIC response. That’s why I used ‘its depth’ rather than ‘his depth’. I wrote that quite intentionally. (Although in the first sentence, I did use the word ‘his’, FWIW).
He did something wrong when he was writing this song, I don't want to ruin it for people because it's such a beautiful song, but since he's a Hollywood star you know how a lot them like to live dangerously. "Now that your rose is in bloom, the lights hit the gloom on the grey" if you can't connect the dots to what that really means then you'll never understand.
Accidently writing a song while getting to know your new 'device' is what happend to Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics as well: it resulted in the musical hook of 'Sweet dreams'. Annie Lennox spontaneously came up with the singing melody and the words while hearing it for the first time.
Oh damn, Seal’s closing comments choked me up a bit. Showing respect to Rick and what he’s bringing and illuminating to people about music and songwriting, especially young people.
Cool to see Seal on your channel. He's written 3 of my all time favorite songs; Kiss From a Rose, Prayer for the Dying, and Love's Divine. He's one of those artists like Sade who blurs the lines between Soul, Jazz, and Pop. Phenomenal voice, interesting lyrics, engaging beats, rhythms, and melodies. One of my favorite artists for sure!
Jesus Christ. Crazy. Is my fav. My husband loves and introduced to me. He is American military. He is back in April and for good. I listen to his iPod music on repeat.
Seal is absolutely amazing. Great songwriter, amazing performer, eloquent speaker and he always has that "distinguished" air about him. A proper gentleman, if you will.
I met Seal back in the late 90s when i worked at a hotel in London and he used to come stay there often.. he was an awesome guy, quiet and very respectful .. fond memories... :)
This makes me so happy! I love Kiss from a Rose, and to hear that Seal sung it into his new Tascam cause he didn't play an instrument is so relatable... and look at what he created from these humble beginnings. So inspiring.
To Me , the entire album is magnificent . I`m 66 years old and it`s been in my top 20 since I first listened to it 30 years ago. I don`t have the words to express how much this album , has and still means to me . I want to thank Seal for all the heart and soul he poured into the recording . It simply heal`s .
People that weren’t around when this came out have no idea how huge this song was! Even though it got played to death, it still holds up today. Great song. Great performance by Seal.
I'm listening to Seal's entire discography and it's impressive. After watching this interview, I'm missing an acoustic album of all Seal's greatest hits. It will be incredible!
Great rick. Scott from Scotland I was listening to kiss from a rose today in bbc radio 2 driving back from the farm … and it knocked me again. I remember hearing it when it came out and been a fav since sing since. Just stunning how a simple chord structure. Just turns into amazing song Seal is true talent. So simple so complex …so beautiful
beato has given us a journey to music... i already knew about seal... just to have us seal is honest, deep, and thoughful... from both of you is great!
One of the best constructed songs ever! Awesome. Seal is so laid back and cool. I hope he is like this in his real life cause he seems like a blast to be around. And he is so modest about how great this song is!
This song just popped into my head the other day and would not leave. This is so on time. A Kiss From a Rose is one of the most beautiful songs to ever happen!❤❤❤
Man those were the good old days of music. MTV was absolutely rocking and there was so much music coming out. There was no reason to change! Bring back original MTV and music videos!!!
Seal is just pure class. From his voice to how he carries himself. I also love how he isnt pigeon holed into any genre. If he were american Im not sure that would be the case. Being British he was exposed to far more genres growing up. This song could be one of those big aerosmith soft rock ballads. But its Seal. and its nothing like Killer. His other classic. Both songs are still very unique.
I have always really loved this song and to be honest Seal has other great songs too. But I also love that he enjoys people's different ideas of it. It shows that he proud of it and how it has touched so many people.
So interesting that he wasn't concentrating on writing a song, he was concentrating on how to operate his new Tascam multitrack cassette recorder. He needed to practice bouncing so he had to come up with a bunch of vocal parts to bounce, since he was alnoe and he didn't play an instrument. Fascinating! I'd buy *another* machine to figure out if I was him!! lol
What an amazing video! To just call up Seal. This is a classic. This is what TH-cam is made for. Not sure why Rick would dilute his main channel by putting this on a separate channel. Maybe he has a longer video planned.
my pal Seal ... I haven't seen him for decades but in the 80s we hung out together with a rolling group of players : Eddie Gray ( Francis Bacon's best friend and who was a well known Jazz violinist) , Eruc Robinson (S'Express) , Henry Thomas ( Rock School) and Jon Moss ( Culture Club , Adam and The Nts , The Clash). I remember picking them all up in my van and hitting the clubs in London's West End. Love to Seal - we had a lot of fun in those days x
Quality answer… ‘I didn’t know I couldn’t’. 😂
They did not know it was impossible, so they did it. ‒ Mark Twain 😉
'Officer, I didn't know I couldn't do that"
@@CompleteProducer84 Close your butt cheeks Dave !!!

When you hear someone say "I don't know", it's time to start listening.
I randomly met Seal hiking in LA on the trail. He was the most friendly, awesome guy.
He really gives off those soccer dad vibes...seems like you could run into him anywhere...
“I didn’t know you couldn’t do those things” That's a real composer!!
Many problems have been solved by people who were never told that the problem was unsolvable.
"I didn't know I couldn't" is a perfect example of this from a musical perspective.
"I wonder how Seal thought of this? Oh well, I'll just call him..." -Rick Beato's life 2024
I thought the same .... Reminded me when i can my mom and she answers w her morning face , but Rick calls and its Seal in the other side of the phone lol
Actually, this isn't the first time he's called Seal. I think he did this a few years ago, too. lol So, this was also 2020 Rick Beato's life.

😅
Love that answer, "it is the right thing to do", speaking from the soul for every artist.
His response is just so damn authentic. You could see that it is coming straight from his heart. I am so impressed by its depth and authenticity.

Annie Lennox also came up with the second half of the synth riff, which is actually two synth lines layered together.
That’s awesome !
thats why theres so mnay great 80s songs. the technology opened up a new world of creativity. that 80s electro pop explosion.
Ironically, I believe both won Grammys that same day.
Oh damn, Seal’s closing comments choked me up a bit. Showing respect to Rick and what he’s bringing and illuminating to people about music and songwriting, especially young people.
A) it's the instinct & talent, NOT the theory or complicated methods & high flying chord names
B) thank you, Tascam.
🌹🎶👌🏼💯
I can appreciate how you let Seal get the last word here.
Probably it was a paid session and didn't want to sign off in a transactional way.
@@xKarenWalkerxI would be very surprised if Rick paid Seal or anyone he interviews. Rick is very well connected in the music industry.
That song sounds as fresh and relevant today as when it was first released. A true classic. Thank you seal and rick.
Timeless song, beautiful piece of work. Thank you Seal! Rick Beato is music teacher to the world

Seal speaks truth. It’s the song above all else. Sadly today’s popular music has completely forgotten the meaning of “the song.”

That was a lovely 5 minutes with Seal. Thank you!

I always found this song super hypnotic. I think I didn't hear it before it rolled (in the credits?) in Batman Forever. Loved that whole soundtrack.

Loved his performance at Freddie's tribute concert. He really gave it his all.
Such a great song. Recorded it over and over on a cassette tape just so I could listen to it several times without rewinding...
My father did that with This Old House by Shakin' Stevens. I hated that tape.
I was today years old when I discovered that Seal wrote this song as well as sang it.
Awesome. ❤
SEAL IS NOT NOT AND NOT THE WRITER OF THAT SONG .
The grasp of hamony on display during the bridge from this song still breaks my goddamn mind.
