The pressure of the time (Enlightenment period) was that prestige was given to the science as a body of knowledge. Therefore sociology would aim to be a science to gain the prestige and ultimately the funding. As a result Comte referred to sociology as The Queen of Science. Durkheim was certainly an early positivist. However interpretivist such as Mead Or Blumer would argue that human have thought feelings and an interpretive phase meaning we shouldn’t study them in the same way as the natural science.
